  1. Been looking at getting back into archery(used to compete in local 4H then college) with a longbow. I've been shopping around, but my monkey arms make finding a draw long enough a challenge. And of course knives and samurai swords, who doesn't have a bunch of those lying around?
  2. Hmmm, I'd almost call them directly on the rebate question(Humminbird). I'm having a heck of a go around on the website trying to find anything on the rebate, might just be easier to cut out the middle man. When I had ordered it rang up for less in the basket so I'm not sure whats up with it. I'll dig through my order when I'm done with work and let you know what I find out.
  3. "If you talk sonar, he will come" Lake of Dreams starring Wayne P Back on topic, I picked up a 798 combo about a week or so ago. After a lot of reading I couldn't pass it up for 630 or so. Still waiting on spring, but theres lots of learning and video watching to do in the meantime. Its quite a learning experience but I can tell already it'll be a gamechanger.
  4. This guy also makes an awful nice 1/4oz swim jig. One of my favorites in various perch/bluegill colors. The 3/8oz is my starting point though. If I fished a lot of deeper water it might be 1/2oz+
  5. Oh Billy Mays. (Don't snort the oxyclean children). Of course Master & Commander Raider would never resort to drugs to keep his drive up. He has his fiery angst and rants to keep him going!
  6. Well said DVT. Pick the length, action, and lure rating you need and forget the TS label. With them making all the TS rods, I think it actually gives us more oppurtunity to find a ideal rod. We aren't all stuck with choosing a 7' mh/f or a 7' m/m. We can run the whole gammit of lengths and partial actions to find something that suits our individual needs. There is a ton of information out there on the interweb and I can see where the average joe might get confused. But if your going to drop $150+ on a rod/reel/whatever, I'd do the legwork and see what works before a random buy.
  7. Sorry for you loss. The best to you and your family in a tough time.
  8. Rod in the left hand, reel with the right. Whatever that makes me. Fwiw I throw a baseball right handed but can hit from either side of the plate. Lol.
  9. They do send out a lot of emails. They're just reminding me I don't need to pay bills, take care of the important things like buying more fishing gear.
  10. I'm in agreement on the Boo-Hoooing. The numbers will speak for themselves from what the article reads. Nick and the 2 dozen coaches will get shot down. It would probably come across better from Nick if he didn't speak up on these after a huge loss, it comes off bitter. Fads come and go in sport, right now speed between plays is huge. It'll come around, people will find a way to beat it, no need to rewrite rules.
  11. Great looking fish! Sounds like it gave you a workout while you were landing it as well.
  12. New rod for pike fishing? Just trying to think up solutions for you
  13. DVT built me one last year, I rotate rods a lot depending on where I'm fishing/cover/etc. The one he built makes pretty much every trip. I let him know what I was looking for, emailed, talked on the phone a few times. Really great to deal with, and he came in right where he said he would on price.
  14. I think Felix77 uses this rig quite a bit. I've tried it and it works, but its in no way a go-to for me yet. Maybe this is the year?
  15. I use a light fenwick eagle gt, rated 1/16-3/8. Pair that up with a 20size Pflueger Trion. I love this little setup, its so lightweight and easy to fish all day. Handles smaller baits really well and is easy to carry into small areas, backpacking, canoes, etc.
  16. A punching weight is a nice way to let someone know they are too close. Tungsten is optional in this case.
  17. True enough. The battle for who wanted it the least was pretty competitive last year.
  18. It's why I have to watch the packers beat the bears live It is true though, the anticipations gone and its not the same as live. I'll probably flip on the classic for a bit anyway though.
  19. This is so true. The "Swimbait" combo defenitely serves double duty in my case. Although my Lexa300 has done a nice job, something just feels right about throwing a bulldawg with a round reel.
  20. I'm in a similar position to the OP with my jeep. B@ssCrzy and slonezp make good points. Make sure you count everything in the weight, and I think you'll end up with about a 16' aluminium rig with about a 50hp on it.
  21. I'm going through and trying to clear out ones I don't or haven't used. Luckily, I've gotten to the point where I know what I like and what works for me. I'm sure there will be the occasional purchase outside of that but, BIG BUT, I'm going to try to stick with the winners.
  22. Just ordered one, and I think its going to fit the bill and budget nicely. Played with it in store and ordered from a sponsor here on bassresource. Lightweight and with enough backbone to drive the hook home. I'm really looking forward to it this year. I've also used Mojo's/Triumphs/Premieres in the past and wouldn't hesitate to do so again. I've just got half of the Park Falls warehouse in my fishing room and decided to try more of these rods that are getting all the good hype.
  23. I'd add one to my next jig order. Great guy, great product, I'd be glad to show where my jig loyalties lie.
  24. That cricket can, and will, catch fish. I actually went up 1 size on the hooks and they do pretty well on river smallies. Just be prepared for the lip to bust off if your fishing rock at all.
  25. Funny you brought this up Hootie, just explained mine the other day to Ron while placing a order. When I first got into bass fishing, I was a coangler with the guy my mom was dating at the time. Not being able to fish cranks effectively at the time, along with my boaters tendancy to move a lot led to me throwing a lot of spinnerbaits. I was just learning the baitcaster the time along with a heavier mono line. Well who likes to retie right? Not this cat. So, throwing a spinnerbait without retying= $5 bucks going splash in the lake. Learned a lot that year, but the most important was how to quickly tie a knot you trust.
