  2. That is a great deal on the cover! When I got my Strat I asked here about people's opinions on covers. I think it was Glen that relayed a story that convinced me to cover while trailering long distances. It was about a fellow that had a lit cigarette land in his boat thrown in from a passing motorist. Disasterous It also helps to protect the finish from rocks kicked up by passing vehicles, a big issue where I live. The only wear I noticed from my cover over 5 years of use so far was on the engine cowling. I simply padded the inside of the cover by sewing/glueing in some scrap fleece material and I also wrap an extra bungee around the cover now at the bottom of the cowling to keep it more secure. Since I've done that it hasn't gotten any worse and I don't think anyone would ever even notice the wear accept me.
  3. Did you try tightening the tension adjustment under the pedal? (its right above where the wires come into the pedal) Not sure about Edge but both MK's I have owned had one. And both motors are uncontrolable when the tension is too loose.
  4. Fishin' the new Carbonlite tomorrow. I'll let ya know how I make out with it. Good I hope.
  5. Cool! 8-) Yes I have some Extremes bait casters and they are great rods. I like the PQ's too. But I don't like BPS spinning rods. They just feel to heavy, akward and bulky, that's why I have high hopes for the carbon lite. I wish they hadn't done away with the Finesse series rods. Those were my fav's for the price but they didn't offer them in anything more than a M action.
  6. Nope you shouldn't. If you are fishing ultra clear open water and feel like you want lighter line I'd suggest going to 6 or 8lb floro on spinning gear. There are times when this will get you more bites but I don't like to go that light around any cover.
  7. I payed to ship it to them, yes. But they paid to shipped the new one back. Customer service told me if I would have taken it to a store they would have just handed me a new one. But the closest store to me is over 2 hours away and I wasn't going to get there anytime soon, so I just shipped it.
  8. Just recieved my replacement 6'6' M XF S BPS Carbonlite today. Sent the last one back when it broke for no apparent reason. Took about two weeks including shipping both ways for BPS to get it back to me. I really like the action, power, weight and performance of this rod! Just hope the new one lasts alot more than one fish I'd buy three more just like it if it proves to be durable. But I have my doubts.
  9. I always cut the hooks off my spooks. Then use a #3 split ring to attach a KVD Mustad treble. They are much better hooks and the split ring helps with hook-ups and keeping the fish "on" too.
  10. You give your bearing buddies a shot of grease every time the trailer is in the water? If so, doesn't that blow out the rear seal? I'm confused cause I hardly ever need to add grease to mine as indicated by the blue collar on the buddy. :-?
  11. Get the Burner. When flip/pitch very heavy cover it is imperative to take up slack as quickly as possible to set the hook and move the fish away from cover. Plus you can make a lot more pitches and cover more water with the higher speed reel.
  12. No, You cant catch any fish at all on a Trig senko!!! Don't even think about trying it, especially if you are fishing against me in a tournament
  13. I'm a minimalist too! I fill up even the minimalist of spaces in my boat with tons of tackle so its packed tight. ;D Just kidding, my gear is well organized and easy to get to in my rig. But I usually have at least 16 combos along, only because that's what will fit in my rod lockers easily. I'm sure I'd have more if I had the space. For me its just about being efficient, being able to cover water properly and presenting a bait properly. I used to have a 12' tin boat. One day I pulled up to the dock in that boat and a guy standing there comented about the 8 combos in my boat, "Wow, say buddy don't you think you have too many rods in that little boat?" I responded, "I didn't know there was such a thing as 'too many rods'!" ;D
  14. I really like the rods. Very light and sensitive BUT mine broke on the first fish about 10" from tip. So I sent it back to be replaced and am waiting for the new one. I hope it was just a flaw in that blank because I thought the action and feel were great for the price. I am concerned about the durability though. :-/
  15. A lot of great points made here! I think his cranking technique can be compared to why flipin/pitchin used to win so many tournaments. When you flip you can make a lot more presentations than you can if you are making a long cast, provided the fish are up shallow and relating to cover. KVD is putting that cb in front of as many fish as possible because he can cover a lot of water quickly as compared to say a rig, a jig or a slow roll spinner bait. However he also hits precise spots, thanks in part to his advanced electronics and ability to utilize them. It also has a lot to do with when/where the tournaments are held now. He is unparalleled when it comes to targeting those post-spawn fish on deeper structure.
  16. Braid = palomar FC = double uni (palomar for drop shot) Mono = palomar or uni Leader = albertos JM.02
  17. How old is your craking battery? I run my wells all day in the heat of summer plus all the other accessories and have never had an issue even when only firing up the motor once or twice a day to change spots. The only exception for me is when it needs to be replaced, which for me is about every 3 years on the crankin' battery.
  18. I'm a card caring "P.E.T.A." member: People Eating Tasty Animals Seriously though, any time one of these dunderheads starts to spout there hypocritical rehtoric around me I ask them what they eat. They usually say they are vegetarian/vegan. Then I ask them if they eat any grain. My next question is if they've ever seen wheat/grain harvested and all the little fuzzy critters that get coincedetnally get thrashed in the process. Mice/rabits/birds/snakes/toads they all get it. Not to mention all the insects that are killed by pesticides in agriculture. It doesn't matter what a human eats, some other critter is going to loose their life in some way because of it. End of argument. >
  19. Also try tomato ketchup, lemon juice or vinegar. Anything slightly acidic should do the trick
  20. I use a differnt color "X" icon for each type of cover. Green X = weeds Yellow X = submerged wood Red X = Chunk rock/boulders Really helps when pattern fishing, especially if its submerged cover that you can't see. When I find a congregation of bass I will mark them with the two fish icon. If I catch a toad, I use the big single fish icon. I don't mark any other species. 8-)
  21. Cool trick FFD! I never thought of that. Thanks!!!
  22. I would like to rig up a prop storage box in my rear compartment for my spare prop. After having the experience of "spinning" a prop on tournament day I do not ever want to be without a spare. However, I don't want to loose space in my other storage compartments. I was hoping there was something out there I could mount right next to the starting battery as there is plenty of room. A 12V battery box isn't quite large enough or I'd use that. Is there anything like that available out there or has anyone rigged up their own to secure/store an extra prop in the rear compartment? Thanks
  23. Green LEDs in all my compartments, live wells, glove box and front/rear deck inside gunwhales. Green matches the boats color and easier on the eyes at night.
  24. Aghh dang! > I got a family function I have to attend that day. Well I only "have to go" to it if I want to stay married. LOL Good luck to all at "Rays". Hope to make the next "PA meet up"
