  1. Isn't that the defintion of "crazy"? Someone that does the same thing over and over again the same way but expects different/better results. ;D I've been in the boat with people like that. Rarely do they take constructive critiscm very well. They just have to figure it out for them self cause they refuse to even consider what someone else suggests. Especially if they already consider themselves to be an "expert". Case in point, I tried to switch over to braid for a lot of my fishing three different times. After hearing so many positive hype about the latest and greatest generation of braid I spool it up on several rods and think "this is going to put a lot more fish in the boat!". Problem is all my rods are way to fast for it and my technique/style. I ended up jumping off a lot of fish. Finally after more lost fish than I care to mention, I got it through my skull it wasn't working for me. I could buy all new slower rods but instead I just use a more forgiving line with some stretch. Now I rarely jump one off. Hopefully your buddy will have a similar apipheny

  4. I beleive there was another thread on here that dicussed H2O2 regarding Hannon's promotion of it and a counter study that said H2O2 was almost always lethal to bass in the ratio Hannon suggested. Anyway, turns out the the study was done using a stronger concentration of H202 than the 3% Hannon advises to use (that is what you typically buy at the drug store). So the study was erroneous. Just thought I'd offer that. I usually have good results with just ice by following the B.A.S.S protocol.
  5. I would say you are probably right going with the fir. Considering all the xmas tree possibilities they are probably going to last the longest under water. Unless your local xmas tree dealer sells Cypress trees.

  8. I use them for everything but crankbaits. I prefer a slower reel for cranks. I like to keep crankbaits at a pace where I can interpret the cover/structure and I'm able to do that best with a 5:1 better. JMHO You can't imagine how much of a difference a 7:1 makes even for things like pitchin' when you just have a short line. It saves a lot of "dead" time so you are able to quickly reel it in and pitch back into the strike zone. The faster reel allows you to make a lot more presentation in a day's time regardless of technique.
  9. I won two free spools of Sensation as a "door prize" at a tournament so i tried it out. I can't remember why it sucked, I just remember that it sucked.....HARD! But as least it didn't cost me anything. So I just used it as backing/filler. Its great for that (but not much else).
  10. Oh how I long for 50 degree water. Its snowing and blowing here like crazy and I'm guessing the water is in the mid to upper 30's But yes the shaky head is great in cold water. Cold water is the only situation that I have found that Gulp actually out fishes normal plastics. I usually go with a 1/8 oz Picasso and a 5" gulp slim shaky worm. Though I just got my first order from North Star Baits which included 25 Shaky jigs. They look great so hopefully they fish as good as they look. I really like the Picasso's but they can get pricey. Can't wait to try out the NSB's in some "cold" water after ice out 8-)
  11. When I first read this subject my mind wandered (as it often does) and I thought, "Now there is a great name for a rock band: Chine Walk". ;D I can hear it now: "Dude did you catch the lastest Chine Walk video from the Triton set? Its killer!" But sersiously, that video makes me appreciate my Stratos even more.
  12. A hand-dug earth worm! ;D Seems like bass fishin' was simpler then for some reason :
  13. He sure did - check it out ~ http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/tournaments/opens/news/story?page=b_opens_Roland_Martin_Returns I am looking forward to him showing off some of the flashes of angling brilliance he was so famous for back in the day. A-Jay Cool! Thanks for the heads up AJ. I found the last paragraph of that article interesting: "Fans interested in having a chance to fish with one of the all-time greats should consider signing up as co-anglers for the Bassmaster Opens. Registration for individual tournaments begins Dec. 14 at 9 a.m. ET. Registration for the full season is already underway. Sign up here or call 1-877-BASS-USA." Wonder if Jerry Mc is encouraging old Roland to compete in order to boost tourney participation? : In any event, its great to see such an icon back in action regardless of how high he places. Good luck Roland!
  14. X2 About the easiest to cast relative to size next to LC for me.
  15. Huh? Did Roland come out of retirement? :-?
  16. I would also think that the complexity and cost may depend also on wheather the trailer has surge brakes or not as I have often pondered converting mine to a swing away (which has surge breaks).
  17. Wonder if it comes in a shad shape/color to attract bass? ;D
  18. 7' Falcon Low Rider "Carolina Lizard Dragger"
  19. I put an empty paper towel or tp core over the chuck on my drill. It fits snuggly, but if not you can tape it on there with masking tape. Then tape or tie the end of the line on the core. Open bail/press thumbar but provide some tension on the line so you don't have an over run. On a baitcaster just tighten down the tension knob a bit. Run the drill slowly. It will spool the line on to the core. Then you can just store the core/line and respool it on another reel whenever you want. Be careful just to run the line back and forth over the core evenly as you wind it on with the drill. Its best to use a drill that has a slow/variable speed capability.
  20. I've got a pair that I've had for at least 5 years. They are great! Very comfortable and I haven't had any issues with them. Mine has interchangable lenses that work great for changing conditions. My wife got them for me. But I don't wear them that often for fishing just because the model I have has smaller lenses so some glare gets around the edges from the water. When my current pair of fishing glasses need replacing (which are Solarbats, and also great shades) I'll look at the Natives too.
  21. A slightly different scenario, but at my last tournament during launch there was a Striper fishing boat floating around near the ramp. You know how crazy it is at boat-check when everyone is dipping ther boats in on a 3 lane launch in the pitch dark. I had no sooner backed my boat off the trailer and I can see this striper fisherman is trying to get someone's attention. So I idle over to see what's up. Here his trim'tilt wouldn't work and he couldn't get his motor down. So he was adrift and had no way back to shore. No one else offered to help him out (not too suprising cause it often seems striper and bass anlgers are at odds on this lake). After we strugled to secure a line between our rigs, I drug his big deck type boat back to the dock area through a swarm of other bass boats that were launching. A difficult and time consuming task to say the least due to the traffic, close quarters of the ramp/doc/bay and size of his rig. But I managed to get it done without damaging either of our boats and still had time to make it to blast off. Well anyway I ended up finishing 4th for the tournament with my best payout yet! Karma indeed!
  22. I like 20 or 25lb florocarbon unless the veg is super super matted/heavy. I only use braid if I have too. I've found my bite : land ratio is better with floro typically. I use a H Fast 7'6" rod mostly with the floro. For braid I like a a bit softer, slower rod when flipping for some shock absorbtion while fighting the fish. They stay buttoned up for my better with that set up. JMHO
  23. For the money they are good as far as the trigger rods go. Very durable and get the job done. I've had one for about 15 years that has served me well. I don't like them at all for spinning. They are too heavy. When I fish with spinning gear I want something with more of a finnesse feel/action. For a similar price I like the Fenwick GT.
  24. I've noticed that I have to re-tie it more frequently in order to maintain its integrety but I usually only use it on jerkbaits. I don't like it on crankbaits cause I'm usually running them through rocks and the not seems to fail quicker in that application. Thanks to some advice posted elsewhere here I have begun using the snap locks but I haven't decided if I like them yet or not vs. straight tie.
