I have been using the Ned rig on lakes with a lot of success this year. My river season will be kicking off shortly and was wondering how the Ned is vs tubes for smallmouth. The tube is my go to usually on the river but have been itching to try the Ned. My only thought would be I can get a better hook set with a tube and would think I would lose a lot due to the smaller hook on the Ned. Any info. Or experience is appriciated.

Up here in the north we count anything over 8lbs. as a 10lb. bass. That way we are still in the running and can stay in the conversation.

If the bite is tough I sometimes say " finally". Other than that I usually don't say anything.

I like Vicious for a cheap fluoro it has never let me down.

I tie direct for everything and only use a swivel when drop shotting.

I like any color top water spook type bait as long as the belly is white. Pink would be easy to see.

Like said here if you can see the bass they can see you and are difficult to catch. Next time try a wieghtless lizard. This works for me sometimes.

I use a Thermacell when fishing at night. Nothing is ever 100% effective but these units work as well or better then bug spray without putting any chemicals on you. Deet is some nasty stuff.

As said you can't catch them all the time. I keep downsizing my lures and changing spots and sometimes they just have lock jaw. However it's those days where everything seems to go right where you find a pattern and start slaying them that keeps you coming back. If I had days like that all the time I think it would start to become boring and I would lose interest. Bass fishing for me is a lot more then catching fish. Keep at it you will have one of those days also. Also I think golf guys that don't cut their own lawn or can't unclog a drain.

Some guys smoke crack some guys fish for bass. Therefore I am on bass resource. It's my crack. Sorry if anyone does both. One quick read through the forums can up anyone's game.

My lures always smel like garlic, megastrike also sometimes suntan lotion but I don't think they have ever smelt like fish. Sometimes my brother smells the fish he catches and I always ask him to smell their butt to see what they are eating. Lol. If I think I missed a fish I throw back with somthing diffrent. Hook sets are free and missing fish is part of the game!

All good choices here but whatever you do don't put a Z-man Hula Stix in The Deal color on a shakeyhead it won't work at all. ?

The first thing you should get for your new boat is a fish finder. You can get a new one for $60.00 and some used ones cheaper. Just look around and you will find one. They are easy to install and will increase your catch substantially. Remember the main things you want to use it for is depth and water temp. This is the best advise I can give you. Hope it helps.

Regrets I've had a few but then again definitely not my SI. It took a season to learn but now I am a hunter of fish. It takes a lot less time finding those productive rock piles also.

I have been using leftover spools of varying lb. test for my Flourocarbon leader while using braided line. I was wondering if I should be using leader material made specifically for this. Does anyone else just use leftover spools for their leader? And if not what is a good fluro leader to use.

Try a 4 inch senko or stick bait t-rigged and weightless. They will let you know if they are there if you use this.

I don't mind sharing tackle. Usually guys that know what they are doing have their own tackle and guys that don't fish often I will set up and change as the need occurs. Never really had anyone go through my tackle box or baits except my kids.

A Thermacell works wonders at night. I would not go night fishing without one. No messing with bug spray for me.
