Guys, I am renting a house in Orlando with the family for a week. There is a little lake behind us that has bass in it. I don't see any structure or cover to speak of. What would be the best thing to throw? I caught some on swimbaits and my son on small grubs. I have tried a spook and popper and did not get any takers. Any suggestions? Merry Christmas!

I'm color blind so what appears to be one color to me is a different color to you. My color selection has won me many club tournaments with many club members scratching their heads. Color matters to me but in a completely different way it does to you. I prefer shiny and my results have proven bass do also. So it is possible bass don't see things the same way you do. I know I don't.

What nobody uses the Spro Aruku Shad? I like the Spro Aruku Shad.

Does anyone use Shakey heads in the winter. I have some finesse mega strike Shakey heads that I was thinking about throwing with a minnow or small Crayfish imitation on. My though is you can fish them really slow so it might work. Just not a big plastics guy in winter. Any info. Is appreciated.

I've been fishing a winter pattern for the last couple of weeks with water temps in the high 40's deep and painfully slow. When fishing a blade bait letting it sit on the bottom for what seems like forever until I feel a pick up.

I always thought that every time I catch a fish it was wizardry and hocas pocas so i am always to busy looking in my book of spells to catch another so it's a no for me.

Blade Bait, jerkbaits and jigs. Good new is I only need to bring 3 rods this time of year. Same places and I use my electronics more to find them. They are usually stacked up but sometimes belly on the bottom.

This is a good. Some folks just aren't that technical or care to learn. That's why we sometimes see guys fishing baitcasters on spinning rods and vice versa. Glenn is right some people just can't be calmed down. Others like myself don't sweat to small stuff and laugh at themselfs often. I hope he lets us all know when he finds a better bass fishing forum then this one. ✌

Just a really sad story all around. Sam's comment really makes me think. I never feel as if I'm in danger but you never really know.

I use the ones off of eBay without issue up to 1/2 oz. I like the Seckel hook better then round bend. The only time I lose them is on rocks in a river and it seems even they come out better then round bend.

We are using 4" inch Keitech easy shiners on a jig head. We have a better hook up rate with these. We lose some baits due to snags but these work better then the belly hooks. In rivers we drag them off ledges into holes up to 9 feet or casting up to the bank and let them slide into the current. On lakes we drag them over humps that rise up to 12 feet or so and usually get hit on the down side of the hump. The river water temp is 52 and slightly stained. The lakes are a little higher at 57 and clear. Dragging over rocks and sometimes just letting it sit. This is a pattern a friend showed me that works this time of year just before the cold water hits. Hope this helps put you on some fish. I will be dragging again tomorrow.

We have been dragging Keitech swimbaits along the bottom here is PA and have been doing well. This is the only time of year we do this and it is very effective. We landed 57 smallmouth up to 20 inches with this technique yesterday so I thought I'd share it in case anyone wanted to try it. We just cast it out and slowly drag the bait until we feel weight and set the hook. Tight lines!

So red and white bobbers don't grow naturally on trees? We see them all the time and always just called them bobber trees. This forum is awesome! I learn something new every day!

When you guys fish hair jigs in the cold do you put a trailer on? I usually put a baby paca craw on but am wondering if anyone fishes them without trailers. Any info. Is appreciated.

I'm using a Keitech swimbait with an 1/8 oz. weighted belly hook and doing well. Fishing it all kinds of ways from as fast as I can to moving it slowly along the bottom and stopping it.

I remember seeing a tuna that spoke ironically selling tuna in a can so it in in actuality was a cannibalistic speaking tuna so it's probably true. Oh wait that's salt water so it might not be true.

I was on Van Sciver on Thursday temps. 58 to 61. I was throwing chatterbaits and landed 4 bass. Pickerel were hitting pretty good also.

I have several boats and kayaks I like both because they are different kinds of fishing. I fish out of a boat most but do like to take the kayak out to some places I can't get to with a boat once in a while.

I'm sure it can be done but I'm from the school of right rod for the right technique. Besides sometimes fairy wands can be magical. Like when throwing Ned rigs when nothing else is working. Add some pixie dust and you are in business.

I wish all places online that sell fishing gear took Pay Pay It's easier to have my wife next to me at night and not know that I'm buying anything with pay pal. She always Hawks me out when I get my debit card to put in a number. She eventually finds out because she pays the bills but by that time I don't care. Nope. He would put a hurting on me. You are asking if we could beat arguably the best bass fisherman that ever lived. Regardless of equipment and even if he had an arm tied behind his back it is his cumulative knowledge of different waterways and seasonal patterns that make him one of the best ever. That's like asking if your wife wants to stop shopping. It's not happening.

I found a pattern this summer using tubes for largemouth that lasted for about 5 weeks. All internal tube jigs with exposed hook. When fishing around weeds I tried to t-rig but did not catch anything. Using a light jig head and braided line I could snap off weeds and landed a lot of bass this way.

Horrible. Makes me unbelievably angry that people are capable of this. Yet they are. God bless him and his family.

Good work you are doing there coach. Anything to keep their minds spinning is what will work as they learn. If I need a panic box I just need to look into one of my younger kids tackle boxes. It will have everything that has been mentioned here because that is what has worked for them in the past. As they progress they start fine tuning the box and baits will change but there will always be some of the ones that they have caught fish on in the past. This is what becomes their panic box. There are endless ways to catch bass and more coming down the pike everyday. I will always try to tell my kids not to fish from memory but rather learn seasonal patterns and where to find the fish. My youngest son said to me today " Dad it's almost blade bait time!" Because he knows how and when we have caught them in the past. There's no right or wrong way to teach them as long as I do my best to pass on the respect and admiration that I have learned for the sport and everything that goes with it. Some of the best life lessons I have pasted on have come from being on the water with my kids. If there was one bait that I can guarantee is in every one of my kids tackle boxes it's a roostertail spinner. As a matter of fact when we are out and nothing else is working they call roostertail and we have to put one on to avoid the skunk. I have 7 kids. Good luck!
