Sounds like bluegills of some other panfish are nipping the tail. If a bass hits it you can feel the difference and set the hook on them. Also it seems like your set up is kind of heavy for this type of fishing. I use a medium or medium light spinning rod for soft swimbaits without any issues hooking up. 10 lb. power pro slick to 8 lb. floro leader. Hope this helps.

Absolutely this is the case. Somtimes I dress like a tree or wear my sun costume and seem to catch more. No but seriously that bass can see you and won't hit anything until he can't or feels safe.

I used a 3.5 inch tube with an 1/8 4/0 tube jig I got off of EBay to land this 6.7lb smallmouth. Thanks for all the tips guys they were money for me. Also got some Provider tubes and jig to try. Possible jet boat next? Now that's crazy talk if I want to stay married. Hmmmmm.........

Don't forget to also get some swimbaits. I like the Keitech swing impact and some swimbaits hooks.

Got out on Sciver with my new Terrova yesterday. I'm pleased with the way this thing works so far. There's a learning curve from the cable but that can be overcome. Saw lots of bass in the shallows with no takers. Only Pickerel were biting. I will keep you posted.

I installed my Terrova 80 with ipilot link last night. Hooked up the sonar to my HB on the deck (it's just a older 2d model) and it works fine. I just ran the cable on the deck from the motor head to my 998C HD SI at the console. I don't see the trolling motor anywhere on the 998? Is there some sub menu I am missing? What screen would I find the Terrova in? Is there somthing else I should do to make this work? Any info. Would be great. Thanks, Tom

When mapping a lake would you say 20 feet apart for each pass or closer? I am going to map some lakes with Auto Chart.

I'm trying to decide on what gps Trolling motor to get. I have read good things on both but am leaning towards the ipilot because I have Hummigbird electronics. Also it looks like the the ipilot is a little easier to use. Any info. or input you can give me would be great.

I back reel to stop smallmouth from jumping. I started doing this last when an old timer told me about it. It works well.

So if I buy the ipilot add on I do not need to hook up to a fish finder to use the spot lock?

I'm thinking about getting a new minnkota TM that is ipilot compatible for my river jet. Can I use my Hummingbird 386 with GPS with the ipilot? I only want to use the spot lock feature. Do I need to connect to a gps fish finder or does the ipilot have an internal gps? Any info. On this would be great.

What is the best size tube to use for Smallmouth? 3 inch or 4 inch? Also what size tube jig would you use for a 4 inch tube and a 3 inch tube? I'm guessing a 4/0 for a 4 inch and a 3/0 for a 3 inch? Do you like Seckel hooks or regular for tubes? Lastly favorite color? I am going to start fishing tubes more this year and was wondering. Thanks for any info.

Wow I'm sorry to hear that. You wonder what they do with it. How can they get it registered and on the water? Do they ship it over seas like they do cars or just take what they can use off of it. I hope it works out for you and ends poorly for them.

My team tried to trade me and Ryan Howard in the pre-season him because they say he can't hit me for diddling around with my equipment too much. They couldn't get rid of either of us so we both plan on having a banner year! It's time to show all those fat bottomed girls all I've learned diddling by myself the entire pre- season! Game on!

Am I the only guy that does not like to use O rings? Every time I try them it seems like I don't hook up as much. I would love to buy less Senkos by using them but I'd also rather catch more fish. Am I doing somthing wrong or have I not given them a fair shake?
