  1. I know i had one SK crank that i couldn't get to run straight no matter what so it got thrown in the never to use bin. All others i rarely have to tune but i have learned that it doesn't take much to change the way they run.
  2. I was gonna say it depends on the kayak but since you mentioned you are in an ATAK, I doubt you will have any issues. I run the 5 and would have no concerns going up to the 9 or 10.
  3. Many people also have the mindset that it isn't the visibility of the line but the vibration that it creates that can turn off a fish. This would be a reason to go with smaller diameter braid for a similar lb test.
  4. 9 foot kayaks are not going to track well so if you paddle longer distances you will not enjoy the boat. As stated above 11-12 feet seems to be the sweet spot for all around use but i wouldn't trade my 14' boat for flatwater. I just did a quick look at the boat and it looks like it is designed more for moving water, meaning it is very maneuverable. That same maneuverability sometimes doesn't make it good for lake fishing. I used to have a coosa that i loved for rivers and i used it for flatwater for a season but i then got a lake oriented boat and was much happier. All that being said, if it gets you on the water you will be happier than on the bank for sure
  5. I use braid mainly but have one spinning rod set up with 8lb yozuri super soft and it has done really well for me. it is actually almost convincing me to change out my other primary spinning rod to it as well but i do love braid for weightless soft plastics.

I need to make up some more of them and use them this year a little more often. they do come through grass very well, better than a texas rig in my opinion.
  7. hard to tell from the pic but it looks like a smallie to me too. Did it have a tooth patch on it's tongue?
  8. I am also a straight braid guy for the majority of my fishing. The only time i use flouro or mono is on jerk baits and topwater. It seems to get fouled less on the trebles with walk the dog type techniques and for jerk baits, i don't know why but that is what I have always used lol
  9. how much planning do you need? i mean we pick a lake and meet up in the morning and if people don't show you sill go fishing lol Depending on when and where i am game...i have a new little girl due to join this world in mid july so it will be touch and go for me as it gets closer to that time.
  10. Your right foot is likely the culprit....also it is pretty rare that any vehicle will get exactly what they say you will. Seems like everyone else already listed the stuff to check so i won't reiterate their comments but one other thing to check is to make sure your odometer is calculating mileage correctly. A change in tire size can impact the odometer and subsequently your mileage calculations.
  11. I am sure the more knowledgeable will chime in but more guides equals stress spread out more along the entire blank. This is part of the reason micro guides are becoming popular because you can get more guides with the less weight. i am sure there are other benefits as well, i just don't know them
  12. Drier is more of a preparation of you the paddler, not the boat. In cold weather, you prepare for getting wet and the same goes for warm weather, it's just a lot easier to do it in the summer. Any craft that sits as close to the water as a kayak or a canoe does will have a higher probability of getting wet but it is manageable for sure. And as far as getting out in cold weather, yeah, you definitely can and I do.
  13. I tried it but it didn't seem to help that much. If it is really grassy i just weightless texas rig.
  14. sorry but that is the stupidest "test" i have ever seen. He basically subject the bait to pressure that it would never see in normal fishing situations and squeezed a hollow section of the bait. I would bet that yo could do this same "test" on a ton of different baits and have the same result. You could clearly see that the bait was flexing and then broke. I have fished mine for a while and banged them off rocks and have zero issues.
  15. I have used them for a while now and have no issues and they have produced for me.
  16. How large is this pond? I have a big problem with a "scientific" study that uses words like all, exact and every. Good read but i am not buying it.....
  17. another great way to use a 3" stick bait is to nose hook it if there isn't a ton of grass to hang up on. You'll go through some baits but it is a great presentation for smallies when you basically dead stick it through eddies and riffles. Works for lake largemouth too but i catch too many smaller fish and sunnies so i usually stick to the larger baits.
  18. i do it all the time, especially for smallies. Sometimes the 3" bait will get bit when others won't

    moccasin blue for me
  20. people put pontoons on anything that floats lol I have seen them on kayaks and canoes.
  21. i like hybrid kayaks too but the scuppers for my yearly treks in the salt were needed. I will say though that i never thought i would have a more stable kayak than my commander for standing until i got the atak.... The other added plus is there are a ton of great kayaks out there, canoes, not so much.
  22. well the biggest thing for me or at least way high up on the list is self draining ability. There are zero places i can't take my kayak that a canoe can go but there are plenty of places that a kayak can go that a canoe can't.
  23. Got the email today....here is the cryptic response lol And it should be at my doorstep on thursday
  24. since it isn't for money, just give a week window and if you can fish one day or two days or whatever so be it....now if it was for money it needs to be a longer period or a shorter period to make it even out.
  25. not a hijack at all...and that is exactly the kid of service that would make me change brands in my situation. I mean ideally i don't want to have to deal with service at all but i know it happens given the volume of units produced. I know for my fly rods service is huge because i know i will use it at some point since breaking a fly rod seems to be the norm for me every few years...
