  1. this is an awesome troll post....
  2. well remember it is a seasonal job so the powers that be may not have it in the budge to bring on new staff. Don't talk it personally. I recently changed careers to become a teacher and the school i did my student teaching at had a long term substitute position available when i was done. I took that and taught 7 weeks and then taught summer school there. I never even got an interview for a position at that school but after talking to he principal, they didn't have any open positions or budget to bring on new teachers. I took it as a great learning experience and a resume booster. I am now employed in a district closer to my house, by about 28 miles on way, and am making a little more money. Everything happens for a reason so keep that in mind as you pursue your career.
  3. whether it is worth the investment is totally up to you and your budget. As far as what you want to spend, that is also up to you What kind of trout and situations would you be fishing for because bass gear and trout gear are pretty different for the most part. One thing to remember is he weight of the fly rod is as much about the flies your tossing as it is your intended species. back when i was a poor college kid i did everything with my 4 wt. I caught Brookies, smallies, carp etc...all on that rig. it worked but only because of my stubborness I would figure out a budget and go with about 60% for your rod, 30% for line and whatever is left over for your reel (unless you will be targeting a lot of carp then you will need a good drag). Fly gear has gotten so much better over the years that you can get a good set up for a fraction of what it used to cost. Also keep in mind the expense of leaders, flies etc.... All that being said, it is worth it to me and overall it is probably cheaper than conventional. I have one rod for largemouth ,Sage Bass II, and i can fish any bass fly i want from big poppers or streamers to smaller dragonflies. that is something you usually can't do well with one conventional set up.
  4. it negates the need for a cleat to hold the line as it has a lever lock as part of the unit. It also has multiple anchor points for the top line to keep it tight to the hull and not moving around. Pretty slick set up really. http://www.yakattack.us/YakAttack_Anchor_Trolley_p/ams-1003.htm
  5. I think most of it goes back to the stigma that a spinning reel is for beginners and people don't want to be looked at as a beginner. People claim a bait caster is more accurate to which i totally disagree. It really is a preference thing and for me the heavier weight rods feel better in a bait casting set up. I don't have anything spinning related heavier than a M power but bait casting i have MH and H both of which the spinning versions I did not like.
  6. spinnig gear handles lighter weight baits and line at a much cheeper cost. you can do all the same with bait casting gear but you will have to get specific gear to do so.
  7. I don't really see the need unless you can only cast to your left or to your right. I am waiting for the yak attack trolley to be released to install one on my ATAK.
  8. If you get burned again get some of this stuff: http://www.luckyvitamin.com/m-691-solar-recover?gclid=CJLnm92SwMcCFYwYHwod7qEOvA I don't burn very often but i have family that does and every single one of us that has used this never peel or itch if you spray it on you pretty often after you get burned.
  9. Glad you made it back safe. Nothing i have encountered fishing has rivaled some of my experience rock climbing though....those are scary as a mofo lol
  10. I fish from a kayak so even when i am with somebody else, I am still alone. I don't care either way as I am there to fish and don't really notice all the other crap going on around me
  11. Seasonal Job is just that, seasonal. Most places require you to fill out an application for any new jobs that come up, even if you are in the system. They aren't going to screen you against every job opening that comes up. Your information most likely will stay in the system though and when you do apply, you will have the added benefit of checking the "have worked here before" box which in many cases pushes you to the top based on the filters they set up for their a application process. Be personable and work hard and they will remember you and tell you about offers that may be coming down the pike later on. I would also say that after your seasonal job expires, if you get it, continue to help out via volunteering or whatever else you can do to help out and do it in every aspect of the business, not just the areas that interest you. Good Luck!!
  12. clip bobbers are not nearly as useful as slip bobbers. You can adjust depth very easily and also it doesn't crimp the line. Casting is way easier too when you are fishing deeper.
  13. If you get an ATAK you can put in 6 flush mount holders that are out of the way and easy to get to.
  14. Comparing fishing on a private pond to hunting in a pen is completely different. Sure the fish are less pressured and most likely easier to catch but you still have to catch them. Hunting is completely different as you can see them and shoot them and don't have to trick them into doing anything. All that being said, I like his shows and once you get past the sponsor crap, you can learn a lot. Sure i may not have the ideal situations that he does on his ponds but i can still look for and try and find similar situations on my home lakes. The guy is a flat out legend who was AOY 3 times i believe. Also, I don't want to see a guy get skunked, how does that teach me anything? Now one thing that i think would be pretty cool is a show that basically takes Bassmaster magazine's day on the water and puts it into a show.
  15. hope there are some bowfin in there and carp and gar.....
  16. fair enough. i m not sure i could have done that but given your sickened state it probably impacted your judgement lol
  17. i am confused at why you didn't set the hook?
  18. or depending on your type of fishing, you could pick up a fly rod and learn something new
  19. gas here in central VA is going down...
  20. you are gonna have a tough time finding that i am afraid as i would bet well over half if not 3/4 of dedicated trout fisherman are also fly fisherman.
  21. I am a big fan of pro ball and playing. I played all through high school and one year of college till I hurt my back. As soon i was old enough to go to the courts myself, me and buddy would play pick up every night. It was great when one of us got our license because we could expand our range of courts to play on and go after better competition. Luckily, growing up right outside of Philly, good games were not hard to find and it was pretty common to be paying against Division I talent. Philly is a huge basketball city. Unfortunately I can't play anymore really because of that same back injury but i am actually trying to get back into a little bit.
  22. don't see why it wouldn't work. I have seen guys use pool noodles cut and glued somewhere then you just stab your items in there. Also works well for holding baits you want to let dry or don't feel like putting hem away right away.
  23. I find that having items in my PFD are more of a pain to get to. In my ATAK it is pretty easy to store things but on previous boats I would use a cup that was mounted to a track or, depending on the item, I would just lay them in front of me. the only item i kept in very close reach was my lip grips as they would be needed for landing a fish at times, all the other items weren't needed often so if they were a little more out of the way, it really isn't a big deal.
  24. It's easy to have support of a team when winning, the true test is when they aren't. There are about 5 teams that consistently are at over capacity each season. I find it interesting that Dallas has 10% of it's stadium empty and even then, it is quite common for the stadium to be taken over by the visiting team's fans. http://http://espn.go.com/nfl/attendance/_/year/2014/sort/homePct
  25. I am impressed with your knowledge of the G-Man....one of the biggest bums to ever play in a sixers uniform.
