  1. I made an order as well....should be here tomorrow or next week i imagine. Hopefully tomorrow as i am heading out monday and they would come in handy
  2. Well you make the time if it is important to you and it doesn't hurt that i am currently unemployed either As far as my butt being sore, yeah it is a little but you get used to it after riding a bunch of miles, i am right at about 1,000 for the year which is a little less than i thought i would have but a few bike issues and a back injury that flared up took away almost three weeks of riding time. I also went with two pairs of bike shorts for yesterdays ride so that helps. My legs are a little sore today but not too bad considering i probably did the equivalent of probably about 45,000 25lb squats lol
  3. dang....i always wondered if that would happen to anyone. He must be flexible too because his knees bent back pretty good
  4. if you don't take the time to find out if a lake that is not listed as public on whatever fisheries department is in your state then you are knowingly fishing private water without permission and it is in no way respecting private property. Pretty cut and dry. Most if not all states have all public waters listed on the fisheries websites.
  5. Being charged with trespassing isn't the issue but not respecting and using other's people property without permission is...assume private is my intent. with the advent of this thing called the internet there really is no excuse to not being able to find out the owner of a property. Zillow can even be a help as it usually has outlines of property boundaries.
  6. the other big advantage of a SOT is they are self bailing. I have owned SOT and hybrid kayaks and i am looking to get another SOT to increase my flexibility of water options. Like has been said, seat comfort is very important and stability is as well unless you routinely paddle long distances at which point i would personally sacrifice stability for speed because you can't have both.
  7. It is a good rod for that but i actually preferred their 6'6" version for jigs and mainly t-rigs. The 7' does make a nice frog and paddle tail swim bait rod though.
  8. Day number 2 on my back to back days to simulate the actual ride next weekend....didn't get 75 but i did get 70 miles in about 4 1/2 hours. The heat was getting to me as i could not drink enough but that is how it goes in the what of the summer i guess. I was definitely weaker than yesterday but feel ok overall. Nothing but shorter rides from here on out though with nothing after wednesday of next week..... Still time to donate everyone every bit counts. http://main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR/Bike/VARBikeEvents?px=4544103&pg=personal&fr_id=22247
  9. lol i think it was a joke bro....look at the number of digits
  10. Zooms cause less commotion when retrieved that the ribbits. I like them both and if one isn't get hit i will switch to the other and it usually does the trick.
  11. Many states, I know certain counties in Virginia do, have a site that you can look up properties and who owns them. I have used ti a few times to find owners of lakes and ask for permission to fish. A lot of lakes you would think have an owner by the nearest house or business but that is not always the case and getting permission from one of the wrong people is not getting permission. I am also nto a fan of the attitude that if it isn't posted to go fish it....i look at it in the way that if i had a lake i wouldn't expect to have to post signs everywhere just to prevent people from fishing and would like to believe people have more respect for other's property.
  12. I have been fishing in a kayak for a while and have never felt the need for a net...seems like one more thing to have to store and have easy access to along with my other gear. Landing a good sized bass from the kayak is where i feel that the longer rod helps. My shortest is 6'8" and the rest are in the 7' range. I can hold the rod in either hand away from my body and reach down and either use my fish grips or just lip it. This gives me a good bit of distance and can still keep the line tight. I have also just grabbed the line and setthe rod down with success too.
  13. With the ride a week from saturday i decided this week to go for back to back 75 mile days to see how i hold up....today was day 1 and i ended up doing 76 miles and maintained a 16mph average so not to bad....i had to make a pit stop at the house though to let the new puppy out which was not the best thing for me as i had a tough time getting back into a groove for the last 20 miles...he was happy though Up over the $1,000 mark in donations and still time to donate if anyone is interested. http://main.nationalmssociety.org/si...al&fr_id=22247
  14. catfish probably if i had to make a guess.
  15. yeah, i was one of those people. I know I wouldn't want to have any part in being responsible for completely eradicating a species from existence so i can catch a fish or two, especially if i knew it was possible....it is about as selfish as it comes in my mind but everyone has their own thoughts....
  16. I couldn't stop laughing after i got to the "My pinky rings cost more than her entire outfit and all her corny jewelry" All i can say is that is what you get for going to that crappy "italian" restaurant.... Were there any salad tongs or other kitchen utensils used to get you out of there?
  17. They are pretty high quality baits too. This post made me remember that i should put an order in there myself
  18. Bog baits makes floaters that are solid body
  19. Rising river levels have always produced for me. Big noisy baits like wide wobbling rattling cranks and big bladed spinnerbaits always seem to do the trick.
  20. I have been in quite a few and I will lake paddling my kayak over a pontoon style boat any day of the week on a lake.
  21. i agree but they are not the easiest to paddle in a flat water environment. Floating a river you really can't beat a pontoon style raft/boat though
  22. i love seeing inner city teams doing well and not just the yuppie suburb kids........obviously wanted the team from philly to move on but i am cool with chicago winning it all
  23. Personally i think you are selling yourself short but making your budget more on a fish finder than a kayak. I would just get a kayak, paddle & PFD and scrap the fish finder for now and get one later on down the road. The fish finder will be nice to have but you can have plenty of success without one by looking at topo maps, reading the shore etc... and learning to read the screen is another learning curve to consider as well. As far as kayak transport goes you should have no issues using your luggage racks but don't bother with the ratchet straps and they can put undue stress on the boat and rack system. Just use some cam buckle straps and you will be fine and save yourself a lot of hassle as well.
  24. So here is my take. You are a new employee and while what you may want is different gear that does not mean that the rest of the buying public does. Work a few months and see what type of customers you are helping and keep a mental note of why they are asking for and their reactions to suggestions of the more pricey items. You may find that while the enthusiast wouldn't mind having better gear at their disposal, they are also the ones who are going to buy online, used or find the deals. They don't make the store run per se. When i used to work at an outdoor retail store that was heavy into backpacking but had a good selection of a lot of things i said we needed to expand the climbing section because well, i was a climber and that is what i wanted to see. After working there for a few months it was pretty apparent the three money makers in the store were socks, footwear and patagonia capilene and it was not even a close battle with socks head and shoulders above the rat in both volume and profit margin. Your feedback will be much better taken if it is phrased positively like others have mentioned and also if you have some background to your suggestions. good luck!!
