  1. Went out to a new to me lake yesterday for the second time this week and had a pretty good time. Caught 18 total with 4 in the 19-20" range in about 5 hours. I will definitely be going to this lake again....oh and all the big girls were caught on zoom horny toads All the fish were super fat and healthy.
  2. they absolutely will and it is one of my favorite baits to use. I try and find the ones that have three blades so you can work them slower. I have fished buzz baits all day long or smallies on more than one occasion and caught some big fish too.
  3. I'll agree with the color piece. It may be a color they just aren't committing to so a change can be all it needs. I was doing well on a wake bait the other day with a white belly and silver back. I caught a bunch of fish and then a pickerel took the bait from me. All i had left was zone in a fire tiger pattern that had a yellow belly, same size and same boat just a different color. I caught one more that day and had a bunch of short strikes. I almost wonder if they come up at it hard and change their mind at the last minute.
  4. Many times they will actually cut a fin off a stocked fish so you can tell the difference. I have found that wild fish eat more readily than stockers but are more skittish. In general they live a short life where food isn't always available so they take what is presented to them....now this is in smaller streams that i have fished on both the east and west coasts but not in CO specifically.
  5. The trade wasn't nixed because it was going to make a team overpowered. And the league didn't stop the trade per se except for the fact that the league was in control of the hornets at the time. They felt they were not getting appropriate value which is debatable. The league doesn't veto trades. It can stop a trade if there was tampering involved like working out an extension with the superstar prior to the trade or recruiting the player in the off limits period.
  6. I started fishing for what was in the area and that was mainly largemouth and smallmouth. I love fishing for smallmouth, probably more than largemouth but the logistics of setting up a float isn't quite as easy as it is to go drop my kayak in on a lake somewhere. Once i went to college i didn't even bother fishing for bass too much and got hooked on fishing for brookies and brown trout. I love fishing small streams that you can jump across and catch native brookies....nothing beats it in my opinion and you can't beat the scenery and the chances of you running into another angler are slim to none for the most part. Once i moved to Richmond VA, i got back into largemouth fishing with the occasional trips to the mountains to catch brookies. I guess the bottom line is i like to catch fish lol
  7. I wish i could actually target them but they always seem to be an accidental catch for me. I was out yesterday and floating in my kayak working weed line and i caught something out of the corner of my eye. I looked down to my right about 5 feet and saw 2 huge bowfin, both were easily 30". I thought they were spooked but they weren't at all. They were checking out me and my kayak. They stayed together and were looking right at me and my boat for a few minutes. I dropped a yum dinger in front of them but they were not interested in the slightest. After their little visit, they just turned and swam back into the grass....was pretty cool.
  8. I think they recover quicker than you think but most people aren't going to sit and hammer the same spot after plucking a few fish off a spot. In my situation i was working a small lilly pad field working the edges with a fluke. caught him on one side and then again on the other side when i got over there. the only reason i knew it was the same was because of a fin that was chopped in half from most likely a bird hit.
  9. i have caught the same bass within 20 minutes so it can happen for sure.
  10. Here is a pic of a 25" one i caught the other day on a wake bait....he absolutely destroyed it when he hit too. I saw an even larger one swimming around in the same area too.
  11. reminded me of the fight scene at the end of Rocky II
  12. I would probably say on any golf course it is a good idea to ask before just going out there. No golf courses i know of are free and if i was a golfer i would be kind of irritated if i just paid my greens fees of $50 and some dude was on a pond fishing in front of me. Definitely agree with ^^ in that basically you don't want anyone to even know you were there when you leave.
  13. I used them a lot a few years ago and then stopped and then just started with them again this year. I have caught some good fish on them and for working over the tops of submerged grass there isn't a much better bait.
  14. Bowfin...great fighting fish and have been around since dinosaurs. I love catching them.
  15. No worries on a bass rod breaking on apish unless there is something wrong like has been said. I have caught 20lb carp on a 4wt fly rod before and it is about fighting the fish and letting the rod do it's job. I do have to admit that i was a little concerned on that carp though I had a similar experience yesterday with a fish that hit hard on my spinnerbait, went deep and got tangled up in some grass and came free. I didn't even think about not horsing him around though. Where i was fishing he may have been a big bass but i am thinking it was a big bowfin or gar as i saw them swimming around the area as well. What could have been is what keeps us all coming back for more
  16. That is true. Personally, if i catch the state record bass i don't care if people know where i caught him. Is it going to increase pressure, probably but that doesn't mean there is another record there. In the case of a golf course i would imagine that any additional pressure would probably force the course to limit or eliminate fishing.
  17. Nice fish. Just because you catch a fish your spot isn't burned. I know in virginia they list plenty of fish as private waters. I am also pretty sure though that private waters cannot hold the state record though but i could be wrong.
  18. I was watching on basstrax today and the one dude was fishing right near where my dad and I launch....pretty cool stuff. I like seeing tourneys where guys have to work to get a limit let alone win.
  19. I don't have any conventional set ups in that range but i do have a few fly rod set ups that are in the 1k range and i fish the the same as anything else. Am i more ticked when i break them and send them in for warranty replacement, nope. that $50 feels a whole lot better on a rod that costs 700 as opposed to one that costs 150 not to mention i just like they way they fish which is more important than the cost....
  20. No charges will be filed as intent would have to be present and when yo hare racing there is an inherent risk involved. If someone bumps somebody to spin them out and they have an accident are charges filed if they are injured or die? What about in boxing when someone is killed in the ring or on the football field? it comes with the territory. I have nowhere near the experience or knowledge as 00 does but in my limited experience being around dirt track racing with a buddy who's dad did it he would always tell me that the steering wheel is almost optional as the throttle does as much steering as anything so a rev of the engine on the video doesn't mean he was trying to hit the guy or do we even know for sure it was his car that we heard? Bottom line is it doesn't matter. Two people made decisions that resulted in one person dying which is sad to say the least.
  21. Take the drive down to farmville and visit Appomattox river company and you will not be disappointed. I believe they are the largest kayak dealer in the country or very close to it....it is a kayak mecca lol
  22. we used to catch trout in the mountain streams using just our hands and a pair of goggles and a snorkel....it takes some time but they get pretty used to you the longer you sit in the water with them.
  23. Third day in a row i was able to get out and ride. Did 47 miles today and i think with this being the first time i rode three days in a row i was feeling it a little bit at about the 40 mile mark. Still maintained an ok average of 16.5mph. I am gonna be out of town till sunday evening so i figured i would have ample time to recover before i ride again on monday next week. I gotta figure out what to eat for breakfast though to give me a little more energy. http://www.mapmyride.com/workout/680445047 as far as caloric intake goes, I have no idea. I never track it but i know i eat all the time but unfortunately it isn't always the best food for me but it's all good. I have ridden about 640 miles so far this year but that should be a lot higher if i didn't have to miss almost three weeks of riding time with a back issue and breaking a pedal...i should be well over 1,000 by the time the ride happens in september.
  24. Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Florida and up in Canada somewhere.
  25. Had a little snafu with my pedals last week and ended up breaking one so I had to order some new ones. Unfortunately that meant no riding for almost a week. I was able to get out yesterday and today though. Still need some adjustment on the pedal and shoe alignment but it is getting closer after putting almost 70 miles on them. Hopefully tomorrow they will be perfect as i am shooting for 50+ miles. Rode 43 miles yesterday and another 25 today. It's time to start going harder on back to back days and this week is hen it all starts since there is only a month to go. http://www.mapmyride.com/workout/678698513 http://www.mapmyride.com/workout/677245247 Still time to donate if you are thinking about it....every little bit counts. http://main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR/Bike/VARBikeEvents?px=4544103&pg=personal&fr_id=22247
