Repairing a Balsa Wood Crankbait
I did a dopey thing today, and fished a few balsa wood Bagleys in fast rocky water, and they paid the price. Three have puncture holes, and one KB2 has cracks down the sides. Is there any way to repair them? I was going to just dab some superglue over the holes, but didn't know what that would do to the bait, so decided to ask ya'll instead. Thanks.

Eager Beaver... how do you fish them....
I pull the front apart so it looks like two separate claws. Yep. Although with all the posts on scents cropping up, I dunno if this is quite a scent or a taste, but whatever it is, it works well for me. If you have a chance to pick up Bass Assassin's Charm Assassin, it is my favorite shaky head bait by far. It's kind of like a trickworm with a tapered tail.

Farm Pond Permission
Another thing to remember, in the event that they no, still be gracious, and thank them for their time. This will be beneficial in case you decide to ask again later.

Eager Beaver... how do you fish them....
The Eager Beaver is the Bass Assassin version, and it is a hand pour, I believe, with a flat side. I had some, don't know what happened to them though. I was using them with a gamakatsu lead head hook, it looked like a worm hook with a bullet sinker molded to it. This helped keep the flat side down. I also used weighted jerkbait hooks. I am a big fan The bass assassin line of lures, they have that 'P Enzyme' worked into the bait - it doesn't smell like anything to me, but the bass love it. It works better for me than any other 'scented' lure (gulp, powerbait, yum, etc). If bass assassin makes a version of whatever worm, I will tend to use that over any other. When they come out with their own Senko Knock off, I'll be first in line to grab them up.

Cranks: Circuit Board Lips vs Clear Plastic lips
Do most of the wooden baits manufacturers use screw eyes rather than thru wire? I want to start making my own like you do, and was willing to buy a few baits and cut them up to see how they do it. I thought screw eyes would have been fine, some of my bagleys that I've had for years use screw eyes, and have never slipped...

Cranks: Circuit Board Lips vs Clear Plastic lips
There are some on there now, no bids, but 4 of them for $15... I'll wait for the .99 cent ones... That Lohr's lure is pretty good looking too...

Cranks: Circuit Board Lips vs Clear Plastic lips
I have a few lakes near me that go over 20 feet, but I have no boat to get out there where the fish are, so I haven't plunged into lures that dive over 10-12 feet. When I do, I'm gonna get a mess of those top two lures in Stringjam's photo. Sweet! Looking up Competition Cedars right now...

Awesome Thundershad
Yeah, for some reason the lopsided eyes bug me, but bass could probably care less...

Now those are some beautiful baits.

Awesome Thundershad
Does anyone fish with this bait? I bought some recently but haven't used them yet. They look very nice, and feel more solid than other balsa cranks. The paint or lacquer or clear coat or what ever is on them is tough as nails too. They are very similarly shaped to Bagley KB2s or Balsa Bs. Very neat colors too, but I have found that the eyes are decals on mine, and the assembler got every one of them on a little crooked. Can anybody report any results?

New Rapala Lures
I've never been a fan of the bagley smoo. I only had a couple, and they are both at the bottom of a pond that has since been bulldozed over to build a strip mall somewhere in Ashburn VA. If you want a smoo, or see what one looks like, there are always a dozen or two on Ebay. Not expensive either. I think people view the smoo and the et lure by bagley as gimmicky and therefore junk... (I caught fish on the ET though)

Cranks: Circuit Board Lips vs Clear Plastic lips
Crankbait Question... I have only ever fished lures with clear plastic lips, coffin lips, square lips, rounded diving lips, bent shad rap shallow lips, etc. I am seeing more and more cranks with what people are calling circuit board lips, mostly gray, thin material that is supposed to deflect the lure a different way, and maybe get it deeper more quickly. Do the newer type lips work well? Is the deflections dramatically different? Does the lip being opaque affect how a bass regards the lure? Are they more sturdy than the clear lips?

pond question?
I would try a small crankbait, a shallow diver, like any of the following: Bandit Footloose or 100 Bagley Honey B or Killer B1 Rapala Jointed, small size. Spro Bream Crankbait (square bill) The fish in my favorite pond are cruising all over, in the shallows, in the deep parts, everywhere I see the wake from their backs as they follow minnows and small bream. Soft plastics are completely striking out for me, didn't matter if I trigged them, rigged them weightless, or whatever... Even a zoom jerkbait was ignore... So, I moved to shallow, square lipped cranks and began tearing into them after that. Even in october, I still have to clean the lure off after almost every cast, but I'm catching fish.

Weird Bass,, I mean weird
It could have been mal-formed by a hook wound when very young.

Slowest buzzbait
For a traditional styled buzzbait, Cavitron. Mister Twister has a floating corkscrew styled buzzbait that can be worked slower than a Cavitron though. I have had moderate success on the mister twister buzzbait, but nothing to write home about. I think in the vast majority of cases, the Cavitron is the best buzzbait in any situation.

Buyers Beware!
Most of the fakes I have seen make no bones about being fakes. They call themselves LC-Styled or Megabass-like, or something similar. I sell and buy on ebay all the time, and have never gotten a counterfeit bait that I did not know was counterfeit... When buying, I ask questions, do a bit of research, and have taken time to make sure things are kosher before bidding...
