  1. Where you fishing with trailer hooks on the SB's? I usually have one on but sometimes I don't and when I add one I seem to hook up a lot more often. Nice fish by the way. I am joining the 2lb club with most others. Happy Releasing, Hydrilla
  2. RW- I fish the 'big lakes' every once in a while (to help me remember why I don't ). Tough to beat the good ol KS watershed! I got lucky and only had to give up a couple of fingers for my cabin ;D! Looked for 3 years until I came over the hill to this one! I am always looking, I will keep you in mind if you are in the market RW (even though you are a Husker). Happy Releasing, Hydro
  3. Awesome fish! Hydro likey!
  4. Thanks guys! I am hoping to make it back out this Sunday if the stars align correctly. RW, it's in your old neighborhood (kind of)- Just East of Sedan. We fish a bunch of them over that way....watersheds make you think you are invincible!
  5. Next time find them and have them hold up your fish like these two 'spectators'.
  6. Awesome! Hydrilla likey brush hogs!!!! I almost always have one rigged...texas.
  7. I think I have only posted one outing. This trip I had my phone with me and decided I would attempt to document the outing. Here is a pictorial of a typical Kansas Bass trip in S.E. Kansas. Hope you enjoy. This is my lake where I do about half my fising. It is about 90 acres and we have a cabin on the hill (with a newly added A/C! ) I share this lake with about 8 other cabins. Typically there is hardly a soul on it, barring the big weekends, aka...4th, memorial, etc. The lake has basically been very muddy and high all spring. this was the first time it has been remotely fishable IMO this year. I started out throwing my go to bait on this lake - 10" culprit with a red or lime tail. Caught a few but my buddy started out chucking and winding a trap and was killing me...really showing me up! eventually I converted over and we both hung a bunch of fish. The estimated count after 4 hours of angling was 40 fish with only 4 under 2lbs with the largest BOGA'D at 5.3 lbs, we each lost a HAWG near the boat...one we saw and it may have gone around 7 and the other almost ripped the rod out of my buddies hand and the classic pump.. pump... drag sizzle helpless kind of deal and came unbuttoned. It was a serious good day in Kansas. Hot as a snakes a_ _ in wagon rut but a great day of fishing! Hope ya enjoy the pics! Here is the lake after we got on! Nice calm morning, you can see my rig on the right where we slid the boat in on a make shift ramp. The days baits. On the way to the lake we go by a wind farm. When you get close to these things they really are huge and quite awe inspiring. Well thats the trip. thanks for the look! I hope to post some more pics and larger fish in the future! Hydrilla
  8. Ever try to go from a suburban to tahoe. Once you have the space, it is hard to go the other way. I am with the others! Get as big as you can now!
  9. Not to beat a dead horse, but you never block a ramp with anything but your truck and trailer and you should be loading or unloading. If you are by yourself (which you basically were) you tie off in a location so others can A: get to the dock to get off their boat and get their trailer to get in line to use the ramp and B: so somone else can load or unload while you go about getting your trailer and then you get back in line with the rest; if you are now behind 3 more trailers loading or unloading it doesn't matter, first come first serve. The lane should be clear of your boat, so if someone shows up ready to launch when you are walking up then they can, cause they were in line before you were. You do not pull into a ramp /lane, tie your boat off so no body else can load or unload, walk up get your vehicle, drive it around and back in making everyone else wait. No worries, but I think you were in the wrong on this one. I am with Cart, five bass, senile, surfer and HPBB on this one. Small, common infraction. Remember to turn you headlights off if loading or unloading in the dark on a multi ramp. Hope you caught some good bass before the storm!
  10. Yea Baby! Once you go Champ you'll never go back! Great big water ride! I have an '89 and it destroys my older 20' boat in big water. Great boats. Good job!
  11. my suggestion if you are going to fish moving water (with any kind of rapid) is get the LONGEST toons you can afford. No need to go tail over head with all your gear! Good luck, I have these also and love them!
  12. That is a tough. I have fished out of rafts like that once. I don't think you will be too happy in either of those personally. Your budget is pretty tight but if you are planning to haul those babies anywhere I would look into 2 belly boats or pontoons. The pontoon being the best IMO but a belly boat is good too. Remember, this is just my opinion.
  13. AWESOME FILW MOB! For what it's worth, here in Kansas we have abused the 'perch' name for a long time. I still call them perch. Must be something in the water over here! LOL Great catch and nice PERCH! Keep it up!
  14. I agree with above. Maybe not 7 to 1 but it sounds like you need to have more slack than you are currently using. Also, get you a real anchor if possible. Good luck!
  15. I am not speaking from personal experiance but I was in the market in the spring and my buddy has a MG with remote and his compaint was it did not resond very fast to the controlls. His words were there was too long of a delay after telling it to turn or to power on. I went with a MK 80 with traditional foot control. The feature on this motor I love is the gradual on. It causes less noise IMO and prevents my fat arse from getting thrown when on the higher settings. Just something to consider.
  16. I feel your pain man! Although I just picked mine up yesterday at lunch, it has been in and out of the frickin shop all spring! Grinds on the nerves (AND THE POCKET BOOK). Makes a fisherman want to take some boat engine repair classes! Hope you are able to get her wet this weekend! Hang in there!
  17. Here is my main ride: I have a couple of Jons: after seeing all your great retro fits, I am going to start re-building one of them for smaller lakes, ponds, etc. Jons are sweet!
  18. I have been tex-posing with wide gap hooks, I don't think they rig the texas as well as the older style, tru turn or 45's.
  19. I was sent this video the other day. This is very sad to me. It looks true - but it could be some doctored video or something (I hope). :'( http://real-hunters.com/full.swf if it is true...respect is gone.
  20. I think you are in the market for a pontoon. check this out. They make all kinds and you can add a TM on the back if desired. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat21276-cat360011&id=0042492319534a&navCount=1&podId=0042492&parentId=cat360011&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IH&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat360011&hasJS=true get out there!
  21. That is classic! If she works roll with it! I have used way worse, like a large rock with a non boyscout type rope harness.
  22. I take mine off when trailering mostly because of wear and tear. My back seat is one with a back to it and on the highway it will swivel around so it faces forward and the wind try to open it. This has stretched the strap that snaps and keeps it closed....probably wiggles it around in the post hole too. I also thought debris or something could cut it. Less sun also can't be a bad thing.
  23. I have had and have various tubes. I have one of the newer pontoon style and that is my prefered boat. I have about 3 of the older "caddis" brand round tubes that my buddies have to use now that I have the new pontoon style. The one I purchased has a TM mount on the back, and it can move you! Just don't fall out - it doesn't have a kill switch! I like the pontoon version cause it keeps your arse out of the water, puts you higher in the water for better visability, higher in the water for better hook sets, higher in the water for better casting. One neg related to being so high is the wind takes it toll on the boat a lot more. But with fins on you can hold pretty well in medium winds. The round style are fine, you can catch plenty of fish out of them and they are less expensive typically. That is my .02 great way to get off the bank and enjoy some solitude and fish how you want on your on accord.
  24. I run two Eagles the 642C up front (easier IMO to see in bright sunlight) and the 480 (B&W) on the dash. They are not networked. I recommend looking into these mounting plates for the external GPS receivers ( http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0013692018192a&navCount=4&podId=0013692&parentId=cat21402&masterpathid=&navAction=push&cmCat=MainCatcat602025-cat21402_TGP&catalogCode=IH&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat21402&hasJS=true ) When I was researching, the info I received was the external receivers were more accurate? So that is what I went with combined with the combo mount only available (so I was told) from Cabelas. good luck - the sonar/gps world really gave me a headache!
