  1. If I had to guess which lure has caught the biggest bass on average , it would be the Bomber Long A minnow .
  2. That Rogers Big Jim is my favorite square bill .
  3. If a tap is felt when the lure is falling , drop the rod , reel most of the slack up and set the hook .
  4. I cant keep from it .
  5. I usually find that bass are either on points of some sort or pockets . The points can be the mouths of coves , weeds that stick out further , the tips of laydowns etc. The cut are the opposite . Inside the coves , in pockets of the weeds ...One day can be different from the next . It might take awhile to pattern them but once it gets established , look-out . Just takes experimentation on what lure works that day . The lakes here are so full of shad that at times it seems like the whole lake is filled with them . When they are like that I ignore them . What has worked well the last two outings for me is a buzzbait with the skirt removed and a shad Yum Money Minnow super glued on . The bass have been smashing it .
  6. Over 90 per cent of the bass I catch are on texas rigs , crankbaits , spinnerbaits and buzzbaits . You already have soft plastic recommendations. I suggest to get a couple of inexpensive cranks, spinnerbaits , buzzbait or other top water that fall within your rod ratings . You want to be able to fish top to bottom and any cover you may encounter .
  7. You didnt change ? You need to change if you're not catching anything . Its not always slow down and fish thoroughly either . A lot of times it pays to speed up and cover more water .
  8. I'm a fan of the original . These are worth looking into .
  9. Me too . The only time i dont use it is on my worm and jig rod , only because it doesnt come in clear blue fluorescent .
  10. A couple of buzzbait bass caught today.
  11. It seems to me in my fishing texas rigs catch just as many big fish as jigs and more smaller ones . I dont choose quantity over quality , I strive for both . But I'm not catching 10 lbers either .
  12. I broke one rod while fishing . It was a new Shimano Compere , the most expensive rod I ever bought . Set the hook and " SNAP " . Shimano replaced it . I have stepped on a couple .
  13. From what you describe your just throwing a plastic worm out there and letting it lay just like a night crawler . Although people do deadstick soft plastics at time , that is not the way to fish them . You need to move them and bring them to life .
  14. I wouldnt know . There is no milfoil around here that I know of .
  15. It is a neat trick to know . It doesnt even have to be used on a Ned rig . It could be on a grub , tube or all sorts of soft plastics and jig heads .
  16. Ive been fishing spinnerbaits and buzzbaits and doing well each time out . Next time I'm going to try some Paca Craws with a weight inserted inside its hollow body . The bass are feeding on crawfish and I'm hoping the weight inside the lure will come through it easier ..
  17. It has no roots but it does anchor itself to the bottom . That is why lures cant be ripped free and big wads of it are reeled in. The good news is bass love this stuff and apparently crawfish too . This little lake I fish was devoid of this stuff because of the introduction of grass carp and spraying .Those grass carp have all died and the lake managers appear to have given up trying to control this stuff . The lake has went through a huge transformation and the deep-water bite just has not taken off this year , yet . This algae is now the major bass habitat . Apparently the crawfish population has exploded too because I'm getting a lot of fat bass stuffed with crawdads . The water is a lot clearer too . Every angler I have talked too hate it . They just havent adapted .
  18. I have a lot of friends because of our shared passion for fishing in general . The best man at my wedding and me his , we met while bass fishing . We were both camping out alone at a small lake , talked that night and fished together the next day .
  19. Thats a topic for the "Everything Else " forum .
  20. This stuff is common in local lakes and I often wondered what type of vegetation it was . Surprise . Its not vegetation at all . Its a form of Algae . Look at this link. http://www.aquaticbiologists.com/branched-algae-chara/
  21. I have pliers and fish grips in a tackle bag and a Leatherman on my belt . I forget one I have two back-ups .
  22. I have had luck on Buzzbaits , spinnerbaits , texas rigs and crankbaits . Rip rap banks are one of my favorite places to hit .
  23. Weighed in my fish , just to win a stupid trophy . I ratted him out .

I'm in the minority here but I prefer a A 5'6" to 6" med hvy pistol grip rod for poppers and walking baits .They are much easier to impart the desired action than long rods . If you have one of those try it . I use those original Lightning rods . The poppers i use are Pop R's , a big fat vintage Pop R , vintage Pico Pop and Chug Bug .
  25. I set the hook and somehow it got wrapped around a crappie .The hook grabbed the line forming a noose and pulled tight .I lassoed it . I think Glen did the same thing on a bass .
