  1. I fish a reservoir that has american shad as the main forage, and one of my favorite lures to use is a lucky craft pointer 128 in either american shad or ghost minnow. A pearl white fluke on a jighead also works well, or sometimes on a scrounger jighead.
  2. Yes the one I have is the newer one. I haven't used it in salt, but I have caught a few 25"-28" stripers here in the Cali aqueduct and those guys fight pretty hard... If you are patient you maybe able to find it on eBay for around $70. I got mine NIB for $65 and after all the stuff I put it through it was money well spent haha.
  3. I have a symetre. I think it's a great reel for the price. It's probably my most used reel and gets thrown around the ground since I'm a bank fisherman. Even so it's still super smooth... With the bail thing, I haven't had it hit my hand or fingers. But maybe that's because I have smaller hands?
  4. I probably won't be heading out there for awhile. I fish from the banks and this time of the year it is very slow. This year may even be the worst. If you are still up for it I will start swimbaiting some time in late February and will let you know... Mid march to late April will probably be the best...
  5. Welcome... Nice to see another Fresno guy on here haha.
  6. I was planning to send you a pm about pricing sometime in mid January since you seem to have the best price... I just had to replace my car's transmission and want to buy my books for my next semester of college first. I guess I better get more hours at work soon haha.
  7. Thanks for the tips. After researching a bit more I am pretty sure I will end up getting a trolling motor too.
  8. Whats your guys definition of a small or large lake? I mostly fish a reservoir, but the water level has been pretty low the last few years due to the lack of rain.
  9. Thanks for the help! I will look into all of it.
  10. How do you have your transducer installed? And where and which mounts did you get for the fishfinder? Also would you recommend using two anchors, one in the front and one in the back? I figured I'd get spun in circles all day if it is a windy day. This is gonna be my first time setting anything boat related up so I'm pretty lost haha.
  11. Thanks. Can you tell me more about your setup? Trying to get some ideas in...
  12. Hey guys, awhile back I posted a topic about getting a kayak, but after some thinking and more searching I gained some interest in the sea eagle and have a few questions to those that own one... First off how well does it do paddling? I know this depends on how good I am at paddling too, but in general how is it. I'm trying to avoid a trolling motor for now... Secondly how do you guys run a fishfinder on it? Lastly how does it do in the wind? I've read a couple reviews and some people say that its horrible in the wind. If so, how do you prevent this? The reason for moving away from a kayak to an inflatable is, because I drive a coupe and my father sold his truck that I was going to use for transporting the yak, so I need something that can be easily transported in a small car.
  13. Why do you need the extra weight? I didn't get to fish them much, but they cast pretty well. IMO you should be fine with the regular weight. I only used it on three or so outings with 8lb fluoro and it didn't seem to mess up the action, although I don't know if anything above that will hinder the action of it.
  14. Really? I caught a 5lber there during the summer... As for shad I've never seen them, I just always assumed the water was too dirty for shad. Although I remember one year they did stock shad in the ponds but they all died off in a day or so.
  15. I heard crappie jigs work pretty well too, but I have not tried them yet. I will probably go out today and see how it goes. By the way the park has a lot more baitfish than you think. Mostly tiny green sunfish though. And you might want to check out the park once spring comes along since they do stock some good sized bass there.
  16. If you're gonna fish sycamore or the park my favorite lures are a gulp minnow on a 1/32 jig head under a slip bobber. Caught a 5 or so yesterday at the park. As for jerkbaits the stocked trout rarely hit them from my experience. Have caught a few on ghost minnow colored 78s, but nothing impressive.
  17. The color seems a little off for being a ghost minnow. Like stated above the head and top are more of a brown color. The weights on mine are also two brass weights on both sides of the front hook.
  18. I am more of a finesse fishing guy, so most times I do start out already downsized, but I feel that it does the best either in cold weather or during the hot summer afternoons when nothing seems to be working.
  19. My favorite colors are ghost minnow and american shad. Although I sure most of them would work just fine. I mostly fish the 78s though.
  20. A suspending jerkbait by far, followed by a finesse jig with little hops.
  21. It depends on what you mean by upgrades, either cosmetically or performance wise. The only upgrade I feel makes a noticeable difference is upgrading the drags, which should cost you no more than $10-$12. There are other upgrades such as spools and such that will improve performance, but they are pricey...
  22. Its actually not that bad. I probably lose three jerkbaits on average each season. Most of my fishing is done at Eastman so there isn't much trees to get caught on haha. Although I have had to go swim for a hudd once. I personally don't mind losing expensive lures. The way I see it is all the money I spend on fishing is my left over money so losing a $25 lure isn't that bad either when I'm having fun.
  23. I like to keep my colors simple that way I won't have to buy different colored trailers. Majority of my jigs are green pumpkin, sometimes with brown, or black/black and blue. However, for swim jigs I like something brighter and with a little flash. I feel like 3/8oz is the most versatile jig weight, but this might be more of a personal preference.
  24. I fish jerkbaits a lot, and a pointer 78 has got to be my favorite. I've only used/bought 2 megabass lures, 2 vision 110s. Personally I catch about the same amount of fish on either. Although I do prefer the pointer, just because it is cheaper and I don't feel as bad if I lose one, especially since I fish from the shore so a lot of the time its snagged I'm not getting it back...
  25. I have two two piece combos, one spinning and one casting for when I can't bring the one piece rods. To be honest I can't tell the difference, maybe its just all in my head though. I have a lot of friends that say one piece rods are a lot more sensitive, but I feel they are about the same. Just go with whatever is more convenient for you.
