Just fishing ... All these months on Bassresource and all I have to show for it is more tackle, rods and reels. Time to put it all to work!!!

Decided to do some research on the Aby Veritas rod and found a quote which described why they chose white ... "Abu Garcia did not pick the color white out of a hat. They looked at the history of rod colors and the two most common classic colors were black and white. And as mentioned earlier the name Veritas, truth, purity, and white all go together. BMW owners might appreciate this as the white isn't just any white. This is actually the same BMW car paint color called Alpine White III (color code 300). If you look at the overall rod and it's color scheme, it's very attractive compared to say the unnamed white rods with clear guide wraps. The black wraps on the guides on the Veritas along with the unique handle and graphics put on the blank all give it a nice appeal." Veritas = Truth, purity = white color. Nothing more ... nothing less. So does this mean that fishing this rod = driving a white BMW???

I bought 2 packs to test them out in the Texas waters this weekend. I rigged them on a 3/0 weighted EWG hook. Seemed to fit just right in the slot. I also added a treble hook trailer to it based on some reviews on other sites. We shall see how it works out. :-)

It's unfair but so true. Brandon and Ike are so much more marketable and aren't afraid of the limelight. We would have seen them on every commercial possible if they would have won. Pace ... not so much. There's a reason athletes like Danica Patrick who has yet to win a race is known by more people than 90% of the top 10 racers in NASCAR. She's marketable!

A friend of mine bought the Duckett and Veritas rods on two separate purchases. He said he is slowly converting to white rods because the fish can't see it. When the fish looks up it sees the sky, clouds or the waves which all have white tones to them. As opposed to a black rod which shows up as a big contrast in the sky. IMO it doesn't matter what color the rod is. All of them will contrast against the sun exactly the same and look black. Who's right? What's your take on this idea?

From a marketing and tv show perspective it made for a dull ending to an otherwise great performance. You can't knock the guy though ... That kind of shock could cause the kind of numb, lifeless energy coming from him when he won.

If you and the boater are partners fishing a lot of tournament together then you should discuss money. JHOFFMAN is right and you should be considerate of that stuff. In our league we fish with different people every tournament. If they end up with a co-angler in one tourney they are put into a pool to go solo next time. In addition our league set some rules regarding offering money. It's customary in our league to provide $20 for the gas spent on the lake. If you ride up with the boater then splitting the gas is also the right thing to do. That one should be common sense. Another way to think about it ... If you were to charter a bass boat it could run you in excess of $200 - $500+ for a day of fishing.

Guys, There is more about the Sick Fish vs the Trash Fish on this forum than there is anything about catching fish on the Havoc Sick Fish. Has anyone had any experience fishing this thing? How to best rig it? etc. I am heading to Texas this weekend and would like some ideas on successful they have been for others. Thanks

I prefer a regular drop shot hook. Like thehooligan I have recently been using the VMC Swivelshot. Love them. Size 1. Just begin reeling back and they are hooked. Doesn't get easier that that.

I don't go any bigger than a 2/0 on those puppies.

Just remember to keep an open mind and pay attention to what the boater is doing. You will learn a lot by watching. Tourney fishing is a different demon and you need to get used to it. Good luck.
