Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Apparently robo does one off/regional custom colors. This was a special color for Arizona. I have had a lot of success dropshotting a similar color in a custom bait I can't get anymore. I had to have them.

Vendetta vs. Tourney Trail im8
Anyone willing to grab me one of those ethos in heavy action? I don't have an Academy near me. If you are going to put a Curado on it I would try to step up from Vendetta. That is a great reel but I personally found the vendetta awkward. I put mine on the saltwater boat. Tackle Warehouse has Shimano compre on sale for $69. IM8/IM9 blanks (last year's Crucial blanks I believe).

Very hard to answer that. To me, a rod is very subjective. Weight and balance differ by rod and angler. My advice would be to settle on the reel you are going to use first. Then take that reel to the store and try it on the two rods. Some rods and reels just don't work with each other. Sorry this doesn't really answer the question.

Talk me off the ledge!
uhhhhh..... JDM Shimano Soare BB 2500 on a Fenwick Elite Tech Dropshot rod for dropshotting. I never take that bait off that rod. JDM Shimano Ultegra Advance 2500 on a Shimano Cumara M for shakey head, finesse jigs and finesse Carolina Rigs. JDM Shimano Ultegra Advance 2500 on a Johnny Morris carbonlite 7' ML for slider worms, doodling, really light subtle techniques. All 8-15lb braid/PE with a top shot of flouro. Poundage of the top shot depends on where/what/cover I am fishing of course. I want one more set up, I still have all my old Symmetre's on Fenwicks but I am LOVING the JDM Shimano stuff...mind blowing and BEAUTIFUL. No, i guess i didn't really expect to be talked off the ledge lol. BUT i come here bc in my day to day life i have no one as obsessed with fishing as me. No one who will talk fishing all day or spend an hour discussing one bait. i could get all the setups eventually....but i am also impatient.

Talk me off the ledge!
Hello guys. I am looking to add and upgrade my gear this winter for next year. I am a HUGE finesse guy and have let my big stuff lag behind. I want to spend time this year punching, frogging, swimbaiting and throwing A-rigs. I really haven't given these the time needed to get proficient. Being an Ex Tournament guy, I have a hard time with multi use setups. I already have a CarrotStix Wild Black 7'6" Heavy XF that i use for punching and frogging. I think i need 1 more to frog because if I am punching I am most likely frogging the same water. So I just bought another 7'6" H XF. Then on to the A-rig, swimbaits and C-Rigs. Can i use the two punch/frog set ups for this? If i am out rigging, etc I wouldn't be frogging. Can i use an XF action for ARigs and big swimbaits/glide baits? UGGGGGGG I am ruined because I want to have dedicated retrieve speeds, lines and actions. Bait monkey messing with my head!!! I really don't think i need 4/5 heavy/Xheavy setups to do this. I have kids now...not made of money anymore but I am not good at SwissArmyKnife Fishing.

Not baits...but I got three JDM Shimano for my finesse addiction. Two Ultegra Advance 2500s and one Soare BB 2000. I may have ruined myself for life now. Now I'm eying some Casitas HG MGLs for flipping this spring. I was just "playing" with that at Cabella's. Its nice!

What do you do in the off-season?
I do the exact same thing minus the cool trip.

Unbalanced
is adding weight a common practice for rod building? Just wondering if I should ditch the blank.
-
Unbalanced
I have a Fenwick HMX 7' ML. I have loved the models before this one but this one is HEAVY! completely tip heavy and I can't fish with it. I bought it for finesse techniques <1/8oz so the tip weight is a real problem. I pulled all the guides off because they were cheap and heavy, very heavy. I want to replace it with recoil guides or something similiar. The question is that with only the tip guide, the rod is still forward heavy. Can i add weight to the butt or something?

Cranking reels
Sooooo........ I want to upgrade my cranking reels. I still have old school Curado's on those rods. The problem is that all the reels are so high in gear ratio now that i really cant use them. I have a lot of trouble cranking slow enough on 6/7:1 reels. For my budget, 3 $200 Curados in 5.4:1 is not realistic. For as much as i throw the crank now (no longer competing much) I would like to stay under $120. Caius, Caenan or Casitas and at most a Citica. I want to do this before spring. All my life I have been a die hard Shimano user, some other brands are just not an option. Can any of these reels be geared down? What are you cranking on? (square bills, finesse cranks, deep divers up to 12')

Wire for jig skirts
in a pinch, i tie something like a snell not with braid around my jigs when i am on the water. Mainly bc scent makes them come off the collar. Some have been tied for years and haven't failed. I will try the wire this winter, thought it was harder lol.

Shimano Rod parts?
hmmm, i don't think i can get it either and i am over cork. My current rods have AWESOME blanks. They are older Shimano but the TC4 crankbait blanks. Very had to lose fish once they are hooked on these. I am either going to cut the handles off completely and re do them or possibly use the heat shrink wraps mudhole has. either way, that large cork foregrip is coming off.

LAKE CHESDIN-help/advice needed
so surprised to see so much interest in this lake. I don't fish it, and I work on 460 everyday. The guys in my bass club also shun the lake, except May. Soo many jet skis, maybe i just need to give it another go. If you get past the stumps, go up the App. Every top 5 finish had at least a couple of boats that went up river.

Your 2017 Fishing Goals
I want to learn swimbaits (Hard and soft) Spend time going after bigger fish, and put down the finesse rod. Add more lakes to my list... I still haven't fished Briery Creek, Va set up some tournament series...small boat type. Wanted to do it for years but my job doesn't allow the time. A citation Smouth or Crappie would be nice too.

Skirt making
I go to fishingskirts.com for all my jig stuff. I had a 98% hookup ratio this year on these jigs. Can't go wrong with Gary Klein!

Money saving tricks, ideas, and homemade stuff
nothing but the truth! I bought 3 Cumaras and Fenwick Elite Tech....ruined me for life. 1. Don't succumb to peer pressure and ignore advertising. if you have gear that you LIKE...you don't need to replace it. 2. Quality/price...make your own stuff whenever possible. Jigs, spinner baits, etc. For the money, you come out on top. 3. Be a scrounger! If one of my boys or I break a spinner bait, crank, etc. I will pull every part i can off of it. Split rings, BB swivels, blades (Especially) all come off. I have a really good collection of blades now so I can switch up as needed with no EXTRA cost. 4. Put backing on your reels and use a leader to braid whenever possible. Good Fluorocarbon is expensive! 5. We are bass fishermen...we gonna buy stuff! Spend time on the inter-web searching for closeouts, buyouts, clearance etc. I have found some really high dollar stuff for 75% off sometimes. Not always, but it was fun searching too. um mm......i ran out but may have more. great thread!

Shimano Rod parts?
my question is very specific. I want current shimano reel seats to replace my older ones. I have several Compre rods that have cork which is beginning to shrink/tighten. I want the same reel seats that are on my Cumara's and newer versions of the compre. I have looked at other reel seats at mudhole but nothing is as minimal as the Shimano ones. Anyone know if i can get my hands on these as repair parts? Here is the reel seat I want to go to.
