I also have always failed in the fall. Problem is finding the fish. I am a bank beater and they wont be there (well some will always be shallow but usually small bass). I try where others say they should be in deeper water. creek channels, points, humps, etc up to 25'. I can mark fish but try everything in my box with no luck. I even video game fish and put drop shots, spoons, blades, jigs, etc on their nose.

Deep just gave me a Savage Gear 8" line through. Quality looks good and swims well. Line through should help it from getting torn up. Hudd 68 is great choice too.

I have a Savage and the slow sink sinks very slow.

Flying lure and Banjo are actually very good baits.

I still say its the wrong tool for the job. Shallow fish will eat a jig dood. Deeper less active fish may not.

I tie on plain old casting weights. I like 1/4-3/8 in up to 20' water. 6'6" ML or M spinning rod with braid and flouro leader. Any 4-5" straight tail finesse bait. Hook about 18" up

Ya. 1.5 Squarebill, 3/8 spinnerbait, Jitterbug are great in ponds

Couple things since I know you and fish with you. #1 you fish from shore and are throwing into rather deep water this time of year (20'?). You fish flouro. Braid and a flouro leader is MUCH more sensitive and better hookset with lest stretch #2 You are a line watcher. When we fish from the boat in shallower water you are a great jig fisherman and you pitching and flipping is top notch. I think in your situation a carolina rig would be a much better option. You are using the wrong tool for the job.

Not sure whats not right. Mouth position or too small of a mouth maybe? Eye too small or too far foward? No belly? What was the length. When I lived in Jersey I caught a 4.5# that swallowed a Rattle Trap and was bleeding bad. Was my PB so I had it skin mount made and was not thrilled with results. Expensive too. Of cours I ended up with a six pounder a few weeks later too. If I did it again I would take weight and measurments and get a glass mount. You can use any lead or plastics mold and call them whatever you want. Paying taxes and fishing bait tax (10% I think) are another story for a legal business.

Dont know about the Eagles but Matzuo makes the worst hooks I have ever used. The snap very easily and the points are terrible. Matzuo is owned by South bend so that says alot.

Bass jig with a weedguard is 1/8. Great for shallow water in winter and spring. Crappie jigs its more about size of hook and the weight determines the depth. Bass will regularly hit a crappie jig and small plastic.

Bad time of year to be trying to find fish in new waters. I cant find them in lakes I know.
