  1. Braid - double palomar, berkley braid knot, or snell knot for straight shanks. The berkley braid knot is a good one for your if your already familar with the improved clinch. Double palomar is overkill but ill bend a superline hook before i break it off.
  2. I can argue for both bulky and smaller profile jigs in cold water. I spend alot of time this winter going back and forth between bulky football jigs and smaller profile jigs of the same weight. It depends on what the fish want. Edit: i used both styles in mainly heavier jigs mainly between 1/2 -1.25oz
  3. X2...kindaAlot of what did durring the winter this year was with a football jig. I used the Powell 714 (my usuall jig rod) and i used my Powell 765. 7'6" Heavy XF and it was awesome!! Light and balanced and more power than you need. I liked the 765 better for fishing deep drops and ledges and such. I can cast it a mile and still has the power to set the hook from a distance. I use it for 3/4-1.25 oz jigs. The 764 is a good choice if you plan to stay around 1/2. Powell actually makes a rod just for football jigs, it is available at TW
  4. Why not keep both? I mean, you dont have to put a reel on the extra rod. Just keep it around and use it seasonally when needed. Theres a time when i like more of a certain rod/lure on the boat if nothin else just for a different color or sizr of a color bait. If you dont need the money terribly bad, why not just keep it, ? And yes, i used to think a 7footer was long. Now i love a 7'6-8'
  5. What i should have said is that our locally owned drug store is the only place in town that you can get a Revo MGX, a knee braced, your prescriptions, and your photos developed.
  6. Nah...ill keep my 200 and complain about it when i can.
  7. Actually sometimes I say that. ...everytime i have to put gas in it.
  8. My local tackle shop is a drug store. Seriously.
  9. Im just glad you were prepared enough that you could get what yyou wanted and didnt have to settle for anything less.
  10. Does mustad still run that award for record fish?
  11. Great boat dude!! Yall will have alot of fun with that! Now you can get alot of prefishing in before your co angler tourneys!! Good job of thinking ahead for the trolling motor, electronics and warranty. The 75 hp will be a good all around motro for you and wont cost you a fortune in fuel!! Love the red color!! I hope alot of the younger guys without boats will see this and see what a little patience, hard work, good investments, and good timing will do for ya!
  12. I wonder how many guys reading this will go out and buy a bag of pink senkos.
  13. Talking down? Would it be better that we either not respond or simply fill their heads with false hope? I think the guys here do a good job of being realistic and attempting to focus the young person on the things that they can do to help themselves be successful in life as much as fishing.
  14. Make sure to dry your reels and equipment and make sure theres no water in your plano boxes before you put your stuff up. Historically, ive done quite well in the rain. Go figure.
  15. I have the Minn Kota and i am very satisfied with it.
  16. All of them look great but that is one of the best craws ive seen...professional or otherwise. I dont know anything about painting, but i like the "flat" or subdued look to the craw, i dont think i would like it quite as much if it was glossy looking.
  17. We have Sniper FC buy 1 get 1
  18. Thats the craziest thing i ever heard.
  19. 3 or 4 years old. Ive been fishing for something my whole life and thought I focus on bass fishing, i really just like to fish and it doesnt matter what species.
  20. Flip flops and shorts. Thinsulate bibs and Under Armor underwear is getting old. Im also ready to put the jerkbait rod down and pick up the flipping stick.
  21. I saw that too. I wonder if the Velocity is still in the developement stage, he was probably using a prototype. I looked on Abus site and didnt see anything about it.
  22. Wow, guys. My wife went one step further than yalls. A few years ago, i looked at a boat here in town that was owned by a very respected bass fisherman. The 1996 Javelin 400TE was still in near perpect conditition and had a 200 Johnson that was immaculant and ran great. He wanted 7500. He was trying to sell it fast because his wife was really sick and needed money. I drove it twice with the guy but i couldnt quite bite on it no matter how good the deal was. I came home one day a few weeks later and my wife called and asked me to meet her in town... short story.. i passed her on the road pulling that boat. Not only did she buy it, she took him talked him down to 5000. (5200 after taxes tag and title fees) no to mention this was the day before my birthday. Thats the story of my baby...and my wife too. Lol
  23. Welcome to the site.
  24. Be patient. Save more money. Use this time to start researching products. Make sure you check E bay and the flea market often. Just hold your money and wait for the deal to come to you. Be patient.
  25. Ha. The grass carp havent put a dent in our stuff...thank goodness.
