  1. i second the "auto bell" option. auto bell is a chain of car washing locations. i washed cars during and after high school in Charlotte, NC. it allowed a decent schedule, got me outside and kept cash in my pocket thanks to the tips.... great job during and immediately after school
  2. can't go wrong with Lucky Craft pointers. i myself like the smaller 78 size, but most seem to prefer the 100's
  3. you might be over estimating things a bit JT... the most expensive boats are $100K, the most expensive cranks are $20, the most expensive full size pickups are $50K. a lamborghini veneno is going to set you back about $4.5MM making it roughly the most expensive production car right now. that doesn't mean i'm priced out of the market to drive to work..... it really is a bit of peer pressure if you feel that you must have said 100K boat and $20 crankbait to compete or to have fun or whatever you do fishing-wise. i've seen many happy people on the shoreline with some 15lb mono wrapped around a 12oz coke can slinging worms and crickets and frankly hauling in some killer fish. it's all about getting out what you put into it.
  4. mostly all hobbies have differnent levels of participation from entry level/beginner to enthusiast. we could all list another hobby we have been a part of that was equally or more expensive than fishing. most important thing for me in EVERYTHING i do be it a hobby, relationship, job, etc. is to GET OUT WHAT YOU PUT IN. so i just don't fish above my means, easy as that.
  5. if money were no issue, i'd only fish trokar or owners. gamakatsu would be close behind that, then mustad ranks right above stock hooks/eagle claws. not saying they're bad hooks at all, they work fine, just saying they aren't the end all hook you might have made them out to be.
  6. my thoughts exactly....
  7. yeah i don't allow that trash at the house... for real, that's where we draw the line. i'm not paying the ridiculous amount they charge for TV to watch that garbage. really most all of those reality shows are just garbage. topwater, my dad watches this rural farming channel and the western cowboy classics channel 24/7
  8. another megabass 110 junior, gotta love the unexpected $10 scorecard thing from DSG. makes buying a megabass lure a little easier to swallow.
  9. hope yours is better than the disappointment they opened up the road from me..... DSG is actually not too bad around here, i know they can be really hit or miss though.
  10. had shingles when i was 13 and man i wouldn't wish on that on anybody! oddly enough, my dad and his dad both had shingles when they were about 13....
  11. i am a junk fisher supreme.... certainly not a specialist by any means.
  12. currently a sales director for a sales and marketing agency. previously a little bit of everything including: cook, restaurant GM, Product Information Analyst for a certain Home Improvement chain and a selling restrictions analyst for same home improvement chain. it's a constant battle to keep myself away from my dad's cabinet shop. my brother works for him and i cannot stand the thought of working with the family no matter how much i love them....
  13. two rods for me. both times at the ramp pulling the kayak out, both times my fault.
  14. honestly the hollow body frog was one i didn't expect to do much. then i fished it in the right situation a couple of times and it all made sense
  15. ok, shoot me a message if you want as i may not see the thread in time.... happy to try and point you towards some good water although i may not be much for helping you locate or catch fish!
  16. fished there quite a bit and never seen nor caught a gar. My first month fishing down in Atlanta and i had already caught 2 or 3 of them. but a friend of mine did pull a 14lb striper out lake norman to our surprise! Bait is: crawfish, shad, bluegill and shiners. I don't think there are any tilapia in there either. I do agree that mountain island is a tough lake to catch, but it is a nice scene and has some fishy looking spots. but it's pretty pressured too. 5xd crankbait, green pumpkin trick worm, jerkbait and buzzbaits are the usual arsenal. a jig will catch fish, but not a lot of them. certainly can catch some better size there on a jig, but it may be a slow day fishing to catch one or two decent sized fish. although smaller in size, those spotted bass will fight like monsters!
  17. there's some electric only reservoirs around that are 45 minutes outside of the city. some of the biggest bass in the state are caught out of those places. when you find out the details, get back on here. there's a number of places to try out on the southeast and southwest sides of the city.
  18. You won't see any gators man. Where exactly in atlanta are you staying, that will help set you up in the right direction. how far are you willing to drive? do you prefer river, reservoir or big lake?
  19. i think i can agree that if i were building a custom to pair with a particular rod i would opt for some options to somewhat match them up. aside from that i just don't get worked up about color. same can be said for me and the color of my baits. have like 3 colors of plastics, 3 main colors of jigs and maybe 4 different patterns/colors in hardbaits.
  20. interesting all the different takes on it.... though i do not care about coordinating i will agree with those that say no to a white rod. not sure what it is about them, but i'm not a fan either. BUT if someone gave me one, i'd fish it!! i'm just not too worried about matching it up, but from reading some other posts around the site it looks like others take the colors to an extreme. To each their own....
  21. i see a lot of discussion from guys about matching up colors of rods and reels and was just wondering how widespread that is? it never ever even once crosses my mind when building a set up. i am strictly concerned with performance/price and not about the matching part. just curious if you guys are that OCD about matching up colors or like me are you strictly concerned with performance? thanks.
  22. the avid rods feel very nice in hand, but i have not fished with one. that would likely be where i would land if i were in the market for a new avid and had about $250 to spend.... not to mention that you would have some $ left over which is always a plus
  23. all sorts of different ways of saying them i suppose. my dad calls his gold zebco spincast reel a closed face reel. he calls a spinning reel an open faced reel. and a baitcaster, he says what is that??
