  1. just one "qualifier" question, but do you intend on doing anything else on this vacation aside from fishing? that may help with suggestions, but if it's solely for fishing it leaves the possibilities nearly endless....
  2. i agree with doing some more research, especially on the sit on tops. That said, i have a sit in Ascend FS10 from Bass Pro and overall it is a great yak for getting out on the water. Although it does have some serious drawbacks: size, speed, getting blown around in the wind. But for the price and features, it's a great option. good luck, but remember these are not purchases that can be returned!
  3. awesome man, cool making the kid proud too!!
  4. river2sea s waver.... easy to fish, great action and cheap for a hard style swimbait. the smaller size can be fished on typical gear.
  5. i think to better answer your initial question you might spell out which kayak you have and if you have already rigged anything up on the kayak. or is this more of a hypothetical "if one had a kayak" type of question?
  6. first i'd say that if he's a "president" or whatever of an "association" there are likely rules, laws, bi-laws whatever you want to call them. but rather than trying to play any enforcement games, just talk to the guy and mention your concern over the pollution. you might also suggest them placing a couple of trash cans in prime locations to at least provide a place to dispose of the trash? you might also ask how you could "join the board" or whatever so that you can help to preserve the integrity of the lake. At least that way you have a "say in the matter" going forward..... i'd say most importantly in the interest of keeping it friendly, approach it like a discussion rather than an allegation of wrong doing....
  7. buddy of mine is catching them a bit deeper on a strike king 10xd looked like sexy shad. sent me some pics yesterday.
  8. awesome pics, great write up!
  9. that thing is a beast..... i just say when you have to have a trailer to tow the thing and will likely cost a FORTUNE, why not look into a boat? BUT if you are in the market for the top of the line super bad@ss kayak, this looks like the one!
  10. Nice! I have an Olympus under water camera that I try to use rather than my iPhone. The lanyard on the wrist goes a long ways, if you can rig up a lanyard on the phone to get around your wrist, that should eliminate the problem for the most part.
  11. Very interesting perspective.... i like it!
  12. Just saw this post.... I've fished it a few times, like Chris said, always putting fish in the boat. However, i've yet to land any of the lunkers that i'm told are there. Also, that place gets some serious weekend traffic with a full parking lot most days. I'm trying to get out there on a weekday to see if there's less pressure and a chance for a better bite. Like Chris said, i have found them schooling in the later afternoon. Found a large school one day just past the bridge straight ahead from the ramp. It was topwater heaven. Nice lake, even had an awesome Bald Eagle encounter out there one day.
  13. i don't fish tournaments, never have.... BUT if i ever do i hope i have the attitude of coldSVT..... i am not very competitive so just having fun is the #1 priority for me.....
  14. i think i would also have to at least fish 1 tournament too right??? LOL i've never ever fished in a tournament and honestly don't think i'm competitive enough to compete for anything at a very high level!! driven, determinated yeah but competitive just ain't me
  15. i think i'd mostly agree with you as long as he paid SOMETHING for the rods.... now if they were of no cost to him i would say either giving them to friends, family, charities, etc. would be a more honorable approach.... like i said that is if they were given free of charge.
  16. why they're called your better half..... good job for soaking it in and having a good time and not letting competition or ego get in the way of a great day!!
  17. A friend of mine used to ride MotoCross... he at times offered me some of his sponsored items for free (not motorcycle parts because i can't drive two wheels!!) but never even thought about asking for money from it.... there again all his stuff was given to him completely free. Now that everyone has made it fairly clear that this fella is likely not an Elite level sponsor and likely pays for his gear it no longer even seems suspect to me....
  18. thanks for the info.... wish i could get 35% off dobyns rods
  19. very fair point.... maybe he's upgrading to the next line of rods....
  20. and just to flaunt my ignorance on the topic i will ask, do these guys have contractual agreements with their sponsors? I mean like a signed lawyer-lingo contract? And i guess i'm referring to the local club guys, not ones seen on TV....
  21. certainly agree, and i can assure you i left the forum without a word as it is obviously his business and not mine since i wasn't buying....
  22. yeah, i'd say that about clears it up...... i certainly wasn't going to interfere with the sale he had going, it just hit me that it has to happen and so i thought i'd get some opinions here.... Kevin's reply really makes sense for me though. I do not and have never fished a tournament so i'm unsure of how that goes and was obviously assuming either free or greatly reduced cost of materials for some of these guys.
  23. So I was cruising another forum site in the "flea market" and ran across something that struck me as odd and wanted to get some opinions on the matter.... I saw a guy who was selling some Dobyns rods at some fairly reasonable prices, but then noticed that according to his signature on the site he was sponsored by Dobyns as well as about 5 other companies. Now my question is this, assuming he either got these rods for free or at a GREATLY reduced price, does it seem wrong or immoral for this person to sell these items given that he is sponsored by them? Now if it clearly stated that proceeds went to a charity or something like that, I wouldn't have even thought about it. BUT considering it seems that he was going to pocket the money, I was curious how others would see that? Thanks!
  24. I have a big noggin too man... bought some costas a month ago and love them.... i will say the frames are actually a little bit heavier than i was hoping for, but with the lifetime warranty i'm sure they were protecting their interest.... can't go wrong with costas in my opinion
  25. not sure of any tricks aside from just slowly picking it apart..... my suggestion though is to practice with some super cheapy mono until you've got it down for practice, then step up to some better line when the time comes to catch some fish....
