  1. a lot of variables to the question, but i'd say since i usually hit the water before the sun is up it's probably a buzzbait and/or popper
  2. i just received a 7'6" MH Okuma Guide Select… fish from a kayak so that smaller handle/rod makes a difference for me. haven't thrown the rod yet, BUT made well and feels incredibly light and balanced more so that i imagined…. after a long time looking and reading around the guide select has the best overall reviews of swim bait rods on the market
  3. veritas and lews would be a nice combo if you can put that extra $20 into the rod
  4. I don't listen to music while fishing but not for the reasons already listed.... if i were to listen while fishing it would be on my iPhone. That same iPhone is my A. emergency tool should i need to call someone B. camera for my monster pigs i'm going to catch that day C. my weather source that said, my battery dies too quickly while listening to music so it just doesn't work for me. now if none of that were of any concern i'd be listening to anything and everything that i could find. Wu Tang, Garth Brooks, 311, Bob Marley, Hendrix, Tool, 2Pac, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Nas, Eric Church, the Roots, Stanton Warriors, Jason Aldean, Incubus, Daft Punk, the Black Keys .... i could go on and on and on....... people like me with no music loyalty have got to LOVE pandora and other music streaming outlets like it......
  5. i like the red label, A LOT. I also have 20lb cxx on my swimbait set up and have to admit the coil is enough to make me want to put the rod down sometimes.... for pitching i'd go with 20lb red label and call it a day.
  6. WOW nice fish!! A little rain never hurt anybody!
  7. ...... the only reason i want a swimming pool ......
  8. when the pads are there, i'd be frogging every chance i got…. have you tried a spinnerbait? i don't have a ton of luck with them, but that may get them going right now...
  9. some people drive mazda's, others drive maserati's. obviously both will get you where you need to go, one just looks cooler than the other….
  10. super simple set up for me…. 7' St Croix Mojo Frog n slop rod, quantum code 7:1 and 50lb power pro it hasn't failed me yet….
  11. my brother has the EXACT same set up…. i have a kayak as well, but truly enjoy fishing out of this thing with him…. also completely agree on running the bow mount. you have no idea what a difference that will make it your overall experience. you're gonna like it!
  12. i can take up to 7 rods in the kayak. 5 usually get the job done for me. if i'm hitting the river it's only 2, maybe a 3rd if there's a chance of catching some trout
  13. I haven't had enough luck out there to really offer any tips that would be helpful......
  14. shimano compre jig/worm rod, revo s, 50lb power pro, green/yellow terminator jig, rage crawler (this was before my siebert jig order)
  15. i've previously had a speed spool and the skeet reese victory reel. I have some abu's, quantum, shimano BUT the tatula is by far my favorite of the reels. the casting distance is better and the reel is silky smooth, feels like zero resistance as you're reeling. HIGHLY recommend and for the price on thebay you can't go wrong
  16. very cool, i received an invite and wanted to fish a tournament on lake norman once with some kayak fishers. they would present everyone with a playing card the day of the tournament and your playing card had to be visible in the pics. I could do that! i just need to get me a hawg trough and maybe get into some kayak tourneys! congrats on being in the top 25% and besting over 90 anglers.... i need to get in on this one of these days.....
  17. for the post exactly as you described, i'd go with either a 6'6" or 7' MH rod. I'd get the speed spool and as stated make sure it's the $99 speed spool NOT the Laser MG version that retails for $79. As for the line, you can get away with 12lb mono for the baits you described (spinner, buzz, senko and weighted worm) the above set up will have you fishing in no time. I'd second the guy setting it up for you and then the next step is you MUST watch glenn's youtube video on how to setup a baitcaster
  18. hey man, i applaud you for having such a detailed plan and at that, sticking to it.... I never fish in tournaments, but even fun fishing i try to lay out a game plan and always seem to get sidetracked and hung up in one or two certain spots and never really stick to my plan so one other thing, i'm curious how they scored/weighed them? i've heard of different ways, but curious how a kayak tournament of that size did it?
  19. i like dragging the jig all over it to find individual pieces of cover then start throwing other baits at/near the cover you find
  20. I had used the palomar, but had heard it wasn't the best for flouro so started tying the improved clinch. BUT hearing all you say palomar makes me want to immediately go back to it. It's my go to knot and for me the one i tie fastest and most consistently..... glad i read this one....
  21. i'm in.... probably going to have better luck in NC than in GA though..... NC Largemouth 15lb 14oz Spotted 6lb 5oz Smallmouth 10lb 2oz GA Largemouth 22lb 4oz Spotted 8lb 2oz Smallmouth 7lb 2oz
  22. i didn't used to, but now i can't see not using the rod socks.... i transport my rods in the back of my car (camry) so the tangled mess that used to be without the rod socks is long gone.... i mean it can't do any harm.....
