  1. ok, looks like the curado is a good bet.... I'm seeing them on the auction site around $200 thinking of just pulling the trigger on one.... would that pair nicely with a 7'6" MH Okuma Guide Select?
  2. i know, and i have a calcutta 100 but i just cant get used to the round reel.... actually looking to get rid of mine now.....
  3. heard a lot about the lexa 300 as well, now i may have to broaden my search....
  4. I'm looking to buy a new reel for swimbaits and would rather go with the low profile over the round reel. That said, I'm looking for opinions on 2 models. Abu Garcia Revo Toro or the Shimano Curado 300 series? They're fairly similar in prices so for me it boils down to performance. This would be for baits in the 1-5 oz range mostly thrown on 20lb line.
  5. i picked up some rage craws in pb and j and they look great as trailers.... have also used brown as well as green
  6. in the most literal sense, everything revolves around the sun…. i wouldn't use these tables as guide to go fishing or not, if i have the chance i'm going fishing period. now one time this may play into it a bit differently is when it's really hot, then i'll use the tables to find the days prior to and just after the full moon and will try my best to fish at night on for those few days. if we were talking deer hunting then i absolutely believe in the calendar, as there is no argument to the fact that the deer will be moving at certain times dependent on the sun/moon. this always makes me lean toward the thought that the fish behave in the same manner….
  7. just throwing out the idea of a guide…. gets you on the water with a knowledgeable person and likely won't cost too much more than the rental…. side topic, been to land o lakes MANY times as my dad, brother and I used to hog hunt a massive 32,000 acre ranch down there….. love that area!
  8. i'd agree with the letter and would also work to locate/contact the owner more so than the manager as the letter will likely be received in the mail by the same manager you dealt with….
  9. that's just a sad story and i certainly feel sorry for the young man's friends and family…..
  10. most recent bass master lunker club showed a 17lber supposedly caught on 5" senko…. i wouldn't necessarily call that a big bait, but would sure as h*ll call that a big fish!
  11. <<<< see the avatar i have a mutt that looks like a golden retriever but the size and legs of a dachshund or corgi or something like that…. when i'm loading up the kayak he knows it's time to roll….. although i do not take him when it's really cold out. he has a tendency to get in the water and then get me wet which is not fun when cold….
  12. i'd agree that you don't need too big of line for those baits you listed. i myself prefer a little bit of chop, not much, but enough to mask the bigger splash of the bigger bait… and i don't really throw them until the water temp is in mid/high 50's or above…. of the baits you listed, my favorites would be the s wavers and the ms slammer
  13. if you'd like to take it from someone who did exactly this, DONT DO IT…. i had the inflatable 4 man, made a hinged floor of plywood covered with marine carpet to fit in the back of my camry. got the battery, box, trolling motor, pump EVERYTHING already mentioned…. after one season i'd had about all i could take. i got a kayak and NEVER looked back. if your size is the concern, it shouldn't be…. you can find many kayaks big enough and made for larger guys, especially when looking at sit on top models. another thing to consider seeing that you're in south fl is that when out in the heat, this boat will GREATLY expand then in the afternoon as it cools it will retract and deflate slightly, not a huge deal but greatly impacts the way it moves with the motor…. not to say this won't get you off the bank and having fun, but for the amount of money you will eventually invest in it you could have found a decent quality kayak on craigslist….
  14. lake weiss is a great lake, with almost no boat traffic. i'm heading there on a memorial day trip and cannot wait.... it's only about an hour and a half from my house in north atlanta. also, i believe (you should clarify) that the fishing license is reciprocated in both states. in other words, neither of you should have to buy a new license. again, i'd double check that....
  15. sleigh ride!! that's fun.....
  16. completely agree with this post...... i bought a 10' starting out and am looking to buy a 12' this year. the 10' will likely become the wife's yak and the 12' is going to be mine.... i need the speed of the 12' out on the lakes COMFY SEAT is the biggest thing to consider IMO Lastly, on the electronics..... paddle and fish quite a bit before adding the electronics, just so that you know where to put it and it doesn't interfere with your movements. I have a garmin echo, works ok, but not the best. Basically it tells me depth, water temp and the contour of the bottom. when it comes time to mount it and mount the transducer, just google Duct Seal for transducers. cheap, easy, no holes, moveable, can't beat it.....
  17. fishoflauge.....
  18. X whatever for the lighting rod..... for the money and that $ range, they're hard to beat.
  19. THIS IS A GREAT POST....... Great info, especially about the boat traffic......
  20. seriously saw one out on sunday in georgia, only one i've ever seen. I stopped fishing for 30 minutes and watched in awe..... i told my whole family about the experience that day. Say the thing and it's HUGE nest, then it flew down and snagged what appeared to be a rat and then proceeded to shred that rat to pieces and eat it. Meanwhile a hawk and 5 crows are staring at it waiting for crumbs. When the eagle was finished, it jumped down into about a foot of water and spent a solid 5 minutes giving itself a bath..... it was pretty awesome.... on a slightly different note, I almost ALWAYS see a beaver.... no matter what lake, what time of day I seem to call them up! also watched 6 deer swim across about a 100 yard river right as the sun was coming up one morning, that was cool too
  21. My wife doesn't come along, but the one time she did we had a blast. she caught 1 more fish than i did that day and trust me, i've never heard the end of it..... as i come home recently from some skunked winter trips, she's challenged me with the whole "do i need to come back out and show you how to do it"...... honestly though this is like our time apart, she like to catch up with friends, shop, work, have her own time and i get to fish. Now that's a win-win....
  22. those baits look good man!!!
  23. was out at lake varner on sunday, me and everybody else it seemed...... missed a good bite on the jig, pulled back my jig and a piece of my rage trailer.... seemed like not many guys having any luck out there, it was windy as h*ll out there.....
  24. nice fish. glad you found a scale to verify too!
