  1. Wouldn't do it either…. I put mine through a lot, don't baby mine as stated above and have yet to put a scratch that's really worth mentioning. I'd be concerned with it messing with the drag and tracking of the kayak. another thing i was thinking about is how well the stuff would hold to the materials of the kayak and how long that hold would last. lastly, i personally would be afraid that it would act differently being sprayed on a softer material (kayak) than the usual material (truck bed). by that i'm talking like heating/cooling flexing and so forth and if it would maybe harm the kayak in someway.
  2. oh man, some 50 degree water will be nice!!!!!!!! i have gone 3 times in January and not caught the first bass. granted fishing slow is not my #1 skill... i am so ready to see it warm up a touch and get the bite back on.
  3. you might look hard at rabun and burton. they are a ways away, north of atlanta. however, both lakes are well known for having some monster trout in them. i think you'll do better there on some spots rather than lmb but if i'm not mistaken the state record spot is still from lake burton and was over 8 pounds. not to mention that lake is not all that big so fairly easy to "navigate" so to speak not to mention the scenery around is fantastic!
  4. not to divert from this thread and getting some knowledge here, but another source you might check out is ncangler.com There is lots of good info on that site. Good luck!
  5. Hey buddy, curious what the water temps were there today? i went out to stone mountain on saturday and the water temps were 37 and got up to a high of 39, like you i'm ready for those numbers to rise and my catch rates along with it......
  6. hey man, to start i dont think i'm going to be much help on finding you a guide, but more curious on where exactly you might mean by north georgia? i guess specifically what lakes you'd be talking about? perhaps burton, rabun, chatuge or hiawassee? i ask because i intend on doing some of this same type of fishing this year, i grew up around the north georgia, north carolina border so i know the areas.
  7. welcome from a carolina boy stuck in georgia!
  8. welcome, tons of good stuff here
  9. For me, I'd focus on the best rod you can get. Then I'd find a good deal on a good reel from the Flea Market forum and then I'd start fishing....
  10. The biggest bass I've caught on Lake Norman was only about 4.75 lbs, but caught on a white strike king buzzbait right in front of the biggest dock of about 12 docks. There are TONS of docks on Lake Norman so if you like that sytle of fishing you're in good shape. Also plenty of other types of fishing, thousands of coves. Around that time frame there's a few baits i'd be stuck on 1. Texas Rig Worm pumpkin or watermelon 2. lipless crank (shad colors) 3. buzzbait - white 4. spinnerbait - white with silver blades as far as where to stay, you're cheaper options will be around Mooresville, NC (exit 36 on I77) lots of options, lots of food, etc. As far as the safety of the boat that can be questionable on that exit. If you go more towards Huntersville (exit 25 on I77) it may cost a bit more, but i lived there for years and felt as safe there as anywhere i've ever been. also the big boat ramp (blythe landing) is on that exit so would be very convenient to access Good luck and hope you get plenty of info on here before heading out.
  11. was going to say the same as pensfan, suspending jerkbait and would throw a jig in there around the bigger docks and big boat marinas
  12. Only been once and was such nasty weather I couldn't really get around in the kayak. But that said, if you're tight on a budget I suggest tent camping at the Guntersville State Park. Awesome place to camp, lake front and if you're towing your boat you can launch right there. It is the southeast side of the lake. Now from site, the lake is awesome. Tons of rock faces and bluffs that i'd be throwing a soft swimbait of some sort. Also more matted grass than you can imagine so a buzzbait would be in my mind for the grass mats and a frog as well. From what i've read and heard gold colors seem to produce pretty well on Guntersville.
  13. When you plan on taking this trip? That would likely help to narrow it down. I used to live and work right at Lake Norman and it can really depend on the time of year as to where you fish/stay and how much $ that might run you. Also with the seasonal tactics piece it will certainly help to get some more relevant responses.
  14. i know a lot of people match them with a white grub of any type and fish them in the river for stripers and evidently do quite well, i however have never fished them
  15. as flyfisher said, there is actually a Hook1 kayak fishing tournament and it is on the santee cooper system in South Carolina so that's driveable for you. Also, i know there was a group called Hardcore Kayak Fishing in Charlotte, NC that met regularly and had a really cool friendly format for some tournaments. all were catch, photo, release and like a $25 entry fee i think. i'm hoping to find something similar in the Atlanta, GA area but no luck thus far! good luck with the search, i hope you find one. i find that fishing with another friend in the kayak can be so fun and enlightening, although many days i love the solitude of going solo.....
  16. i love my curado, the PQs are nice based on my limited trial with a friend's and frankly i'm not a fan of the Lew's speed spool i have one/am trying to upgrade
  17. aside from the flea market on this forum (those jigs were a good deal ) i would say you just watch for good sales at the big box stores (dick's sporting goods always has good stuff in clearance) i rarely if ever pay full price for tackle
  18. Nice Nice Nice fish!!
  19. I’d also be interested in the very same topic, same location if anyone has anything to contribute
  20. Nice going! Where did you put in/take out on the hooch? I've only been on it a couple of times. All around the johnson ferry/riverside dr area.
  21. This guy had his stealth training too, i swear he was within 5 feet of the kayak and i never heard him coming. with pretty much no light to see either, it terrified me!
  22. Fishing at High Falls Lake in Georgia it's early AM and still plenty dark. Could see well enough to start running a buzzbait down a fallen tree when SLAM right behind a stealth mode beaver had eased up on the back of my kayak and then smashed his tail on the water to let me know it was his turf! almost flipped the kayak and was so scared momentarily that i could have probably walked on water to the shoreline!
