  1. I'll be there the same weekend. I'm kayak fishing with a buddy of mine, likely on the northern side. best of luck!
  2. I used to fish Norman quite a bit when I lived about 200 yards away from the ramp in Huntersville. I don't know that I would classify it as a clear lake per say. It has days, but I don't think it's really a super clear lake. Buzzbaits around and between docks in the early AM produced the majority of my early day fish. Jerkbaits are a great bait there around this time of year, during February they should still be producing. Like fishyfingers said, there are a ton of docks so keep that in mind. Whether you like worms, tubes, jigs, whatever you prefer I'd be pitching them at and under the bigger docks. I wouldn't spend too much time on the smaller docks, they have so many to choose from that the smaller ones just don't entice big fish. One other suggestion i may have is to check out NCAngler.com at times they have a good bit of info on there about Norman.
  3. I went out to Stone Mountain the week before last on the kayak, mostly to scout the place out. I didn't catch anything, but the water was at about flood level. Anyways, was wondering if any one on here has any tips or advice for fishing that lake, I've heard some reports of good sized bass in there. I just need to find them. This place is so close to my house (20 mins) that I need to start fishing it regularly, I'm just looking for some advice on where and how to attack it. Thanks!
  4. Guys, I live in North Atlanta area known as Sandy Springs. I do all of my fishing out my kayak, but would also like to get out and fish out of a boat from time to time while meeting new people and building my fishing skills. That said, I'm thinking a good option is to find a bass club that would allow a non-boater to get his feet wet. However, I have tons of questions, I will try to keep it to the more important ones. 1. Do you have to fish every tournament on the schedule? If not, is it frowned upon if you do not? 2. Is there some expectation from a boater for me to at least be at a certain skill level? 3. What is the best format that I should look for? (I assume one where boaters vs boaters and co-angler vs co-angler) 4. What type of gear would I potentially need for this type of fishing that I may not already have (exclude lures, reels, rods, I have enough of those) 5. Are these typically highly-competitive-not-so-friendly type atmospheres or is it possible to find a truly friendly club? My concern is that frankly I'm not highly competitive I'm just looking to get out more, I don't really care about a ton of rules either (i mean i can and will follow rules, just not a ton of useless ones) Perhaps I may be too picky, this may not be the right avenue, not sure I'm just looking for some input regarding bass clubs and tournaments for an absolute newb to the idea. Thanks!
  5. so i'm curious what i could expect for a first timer? i live about 3 hours away so it's feasible to make a trip while it's there. i'm just wondering what all i can do, see while there?
  6. kayak. have a toyota camry and had both an inflatable and a kayak. i had the inflatable first, then went to the kayak and never looked back. to date i still use the foam blocks and have no problem loading or unloading. you will not regret the kayak. not to mention IF you ever did, the resale value will be good versus trying to resale the inflatable.....
  7. Finding fish - that takes skill.... Catching fish takes plenty of luck to go along with it.
  8. I used the duct seal on my kayak and can't believe i ever contemplated another way..... any update on yours? did you try the duct seal?
  9. My exact same setup. This allows me to take everything i could want on the water and leave it very organized. I'm kind of a freak about organization so I make certain my bag is ready to go before and after each trip. Double worm binder is the best thing for all your soft plastics, period. I can carry more plastic than i could use in that binder.
  10. If i had a boat I'd fish the Norman and Clarks Hill one. They look very cool. I've watched some of the Tournament videos on YouTube and there seems to be somewhat of a tactic, but overall looks like a ton of fun for the person like myself who just doesn't really fish tournaments.
  11. i could sleep in this thing it's so comfortable. http://www.basspro.com/Ascend-Paddling-Fishing-Life-Jacket/product/10225851/ as far as the paddle, i may be the wrong one to ask. i purchased a bending branches angling paddle at gander mountain on sale. i thought i got a decent paddle, but after seeing some others mine seems a bit heavy.
  12. My question is if you work out an agreement with this person and your spot does not produce for whatever reason is there any consequence on your part? As stated, I'd squeeze as much advertisement as possible and whatever kind of $$$ to boot, meanwhile weighing in the "negative PR" that could come from some local anglers and the fact that your hole will be no more....
  13. I was actually also considering the Okuma Guide Select so given all the feedback I may have to consider that one a bit more.
  14. Looking to buy a new rod for swimbaits in the 5-8" range weighing anywhere from 1.5oz-4oz and already have a shimano calcutta reel to pair with. I'm looking at a couple of rods right now on TW thinking about buying them on the 20% off promo they have right now. Rod #1 is Genesis II Cast Rod 7'8" Jr. Swimbait and Rod #2 is TFO Gary Loomis Tactical Swimbait Casting Rod 7'11 MagH. Both of these rods are identical in price and have nearly identical features, they both have a limited lifetime warranty. So my question is simple, which one would you lean towards, actual experience with either rod would be useful! Thank you!
  15. Jt, awesome analogy.... i almost consider the day a failure if i didn't AT LEAST snag a couple lures if not lose one.....
  16. impacts fishing in that it impacts your hearing/thought process.... that's about it. I'd stick with it, if anything trial different brands/sizes to see what works best and what you can deal with
  17. i thread them, but as stated i prefer the tiny
  18. sweet fish, hope that shoulder heals up so that you can keep muscling these beasts out of there
  19. Can someone point me in the right direction on getting more info about reading my depthfinder? I have a Garmin Echo 150. I know it is very basic, but I still need some help in terms of how to interpret the screen, how to set it up, how to know where the objects on the screen are in relation to me. I have a kayak and the transducer is mounted in the hull with that putty stuff that I cannot think of the name at the moment??? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  20. if it were only one it would likely be a braid as well. but as others have said before just one doesn't really cut it. like i said, i'd choose braid but i don't like braid on topwater lures which is my favorite way to fish. if it were me i'd say 1 type of 50lb braid and 1 type of 12lb mono and that would be it for me, so there's you 2
  21. Nice! Still looking for #2 over 5 myself....
  22. I appreciate the input man!
  23. David, I'm still working on the rover and had a question for you.... Do you tie yours directly to the eye or do you use the oval split ring that came on it?
