North Carolina Kayak Bass Fishing
Well one spot you may check is Mountain Island Lake. It's the lake that is between Wylie and Norman on the Catawba river. There's some good fish in there and I've fished it a few times in a kayak. It does get a pretty decent bit of pressure but it's a good place to get some fishing in. One thing though is if the wind is blowing pretty good out there it can be rough for a kayak. Also, I've come across a couple of the guys from the group below. They are a nice group and may help point you in the right direction. http://hardcorekayakfishing.com Good luck

River2Sea Rover
Does anyone have any experience with this bait? I've fished it only a couple of times now, but I'm having a hard time walking it. I have to walk it pretty slow in order for it to not just come dead straight back at me. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

Thinking About The Past
We will for sure, easily one of the funniest things that I've ever witnessed.... I found the photo of him in the boat after I pulled him in....

Thinking About The Past
Last year I was fishing close to my dad’s house with him and my brother. My brother was in his bass raider and my dad and I were in my inflatable boat. I had built a wood floor and had a trolling motor on it. My dad was sitting in a fold up camping chair and had just got a bluegill that was bleeding a little bit. He leaned over to wash his hands and him and the chair went overboard. I jerked him in the boat by his overall straps and then proceeded to laughing til it hurt with my brother. Didn’t catch a whole lot of fish, or any monsters but I’ll never forget that fishing trip!!

Do You Risk Not Getting A License?
Evidently it's a misdemeanor in NC as well. We went fishing this past weekend for my bachelor party on Lake Fontana and one idiot in the group didn't have his license. We got stopped by the game warden and he got a ticket for $215 and the officers said it was a misdemeanor and would be on his record. I am fortunate enough to have a lifetime license in NC, but even in other states I never go fishing without a license, never worth it.

Using Braided Line??
I use braid on many applications, but I never use it with topwater lures. I find that it always get tangled up in the treble hooks on topwater lures, i assume because it floats, but not certain. i also like the stretch of mono on topwater, this helps because a lot of times i spaz out and jerk at the first site of the topwater crash. With braid i seem to jerk it right out of their mouth, but with mono i guess there's enough stretch that it helps just a touch with hook sets. May only be my personal preference though.... aside from that i like braid for tons of other applications.... powerpro is great, never tried Suffix, but have heard it's better?

Ever Lost A Setup In The Lake?
lost 2 baitcasters same day..... one was low end bass pro combo, but the other was a brand new Orra SX and mid range rod. long long story, but it involved the kayak, trolling motor, deep cycle battery going overboard, dog, tackle bag floating off.... all previous events mentioned were sparked from me trying to cast and snagging one of the rods in the rod holder behind me (that is one of the rods i lost), followed by the closest encounter i've had yet to drowning.... rods have since been replaced - upgraded is more like it - and i have since retired the thought of the trolling motor and battery on the kayak..... let me say that if there were any witnesses that day on lake oconee they probably got the best show they've ever seen on the water!

Revo Stx Or Lews Speed Spool???
i have the speed spool and it is a good reel. i have the 7:1:1 and it's a BURNER, very very fast on IPT. i like it, can't speak for the STX, but they are quite a bit more expensive i believe. i bought my speed spool at Dick's with a 20% coupon i found online so ended up getting it for like $80+tax....

Line Goes On Baitcaster Spool Lopsided...what's Wrong?

Lure Rotation To Find The Right Lure??
Weather, water conditions, forage, time of day All of these are the most impactful in what i'm throwing. Any low light conditions i'm throwing topwater ~98% of the time, but aside from that I'm gauging the things mentioned above and them making a decision. I myself, like you, bought about one of EVERYTHING (or two or three) and found myself overwhelmed. I then figured out the way i liked to fish and started weeding out the ways i did not like to fish. now i try to limit myself some days so that i'm not spending my whole day tying on different lures. HARD to catch fish if you're constantly spending time in the boat tying on lures.....

Fishing Ettiquette
I'd have probably just called it quits or found somewhere else to go.... i'd rather the family get a chance for an outing than me, i could go anytime i'd like

Fishing Ettiquette
Truly i'm just so non-confrontational i wouldn't say much if anything. if i were to do anything in this situation it would likely be to just continue fishing and not even worry about which direction i was casting. i didn't really catch it from your post, but did the family have poles in hand ready to fish?

Wow
4-5 foot waves would have been a bit extreme for me!! I don't know if my Ascend FS10 would handle those conditions!

Kayak Fishing In Cold Weather
I go all year round. Granted it doesn't get THAT cold down south, but I'll fish in 30 degree weather all day. I tend to layer it up pretty good when it's that cold, but not to layer too hard until i've got the kayak in the water. if you work up a bunch of sweat from all your layers and then sit down and paddle off you will freeze in no time, not to mention get sick quick. For me the most important thing is ALWAYS bringing a spare set of warm clothes and full size towel in my dry bag when it's that cold outside. like Hanover said it can be a life or death situation when it's that cold. something else to think about if fishing when it's that cold is to keep some waterproof matches in your tackle bag. if you're out in the middle of nowhere and have a spill you'd be more than happy to have those handy to start a fire! most importantly is to ALWAYS have fun. if it's kind of damp outside and that cold you may not have fun and it may be a miserable day. just don't overdo it and be smart/safe.

Mounting Rod Holder On Pond Prowler??
I would mount it in the back if it were me to make it easier for trolling, but depends on your preference. i like the thought of putting a base on both sides or even each corner like bluebasser said. i'd say to mount using rivet gun and rivets, but some of these bases won't allow the rivet gun to get down in there so that may out of the question for mounting. if that wouldn't work i'd suggest self tapping screws and screw them in nice and slow until they get snug, but don't overdo it.... good luck

Kayak Fishing
Whatever you get I would just try to demo before you buy and don't go to town rigging stuff up until you've got a good feel for the kayak. NuCanoes look nice, I have no experience with them but they look to be built well but perhaps a little heavier than I'd like in terms of weight

What's The Value Of These Combos?
I don't know that starting at half of somethings value because it's used is really the best method to use across the board.... for instance if my dad had purchased something and wanted to resale it would be in near mint condition because he babies everything he has, but if it were his brother it would start about 50% and go down because he just abuses everything he owns until it's ruined. so i think it would go case by case, but i was hoping that somebody could ballpark these two combos based on the conditions i described. although i have to say i truly appreciate your attention to details and wish i had the same.... If you were in my area I'd ask you to come check them out with me!

A Little Info Please About Hilton Head
Sorry I can't answer your fishing questions, but while in Hilton Head you gotta try the Skull Creek Boat House Restaurant... Best food around, but like ALL restaurants in that area you better get there early and plan on waiting for a table. Good luck fishing!
