  1. The debate seems to hinge on if a spinnerbait is cosidered to have a "spreader bar"
  2. What time you going out? I could be down, or if a couple others are interested in going out, I could bring my boat and we could have a little competition. Although with my luck lately, I would try to get in nitro's boat if you were to pick one!
  3. I have not fished there because I don't have a pass, but would love to. I have kayaked out of there a couple times and think there are some nice coves I would explore right up river and lots of overhangs to fish under. Someone may have given similar advice earlier in this thread or the one for nova fishing.
  4. Agree with the above. Take it back. I would not oil it, or even mess with it. I have a new one and did not have that issue. Hopefully by now you are out fishing with the new one.
  5. Hit the res this evening couple small bass on a crankbait and spinnerbait. Water was 76 which is considerably cooler than the 84 it was a couple weeks ago. Normal stained water clarity. Saw a big school of bait fish and caught one of myittle guys from around them.
  6. Caught my pb on a $15 Walmart Shakespeare sc combo. He was 4lbs. It is what I grew up on. Have also caught 3 foot northerns on them back in the day. That said, I bought a cheap spinning combo at a yard sale this year for $8 and then decided to try my hand with baitcasters. I like them both better than sc. Cast farther, retrieve faster, more reliable. I still have the sc Combos, but use them for the kids, guests, and a fourth combo for just dropshotting, which I have not tried much. All that to say they work fine, but I am glad I have tried the others.
  7. People modify their frogs in many different ways. The post above is more radical than I have done with mine, but I am just starting. Not a critique, just a FYI. Also watch the bassresource frog videos.
  8. I didn't think anyone had pictures of their pb. ; )
  9. Fish weights are hard for me to guess. Probably because I have little experience with big ones. Was out this weekend fishing a pond/lake and hooked a guy at night. Got him in and at glance and feel, guessed at 3#. Weighed the sucker and he was 2.12 He was even a decent length, although I did not measures him before release. At any rate, congrats on the nice fish! After I landed my pb and had to weigh him on my bathroom scale with me and then withme with him (like that's accurate), I bought myself a scale. They are cheap too!
  10. Do you all fish those ribbit frogs like frogs? I bought them as jig trailers...
  11. How do bass, or any other fish for that matter, end up in man made ponds like run offs and on gold courses?
  12. Never tried old hickory but the lake ridge marina has some sunnies for the kids, maybe a bass or two for dad as well.
  13. See ya out there! Does anyone know of a mom and pop fishing spot in the area? I feel like Walmart is about as close as we have...
  14. You also looked like you were with someone so I didn't stop.
  15. I saw you between sandy run and the dam on the pwc side. You were standing up and either pointing for a long time or trying to get a lure out of a tree. I know that last stance well. Then later you zipped back toward the marina when I was near sandy run. I have a 12 foot v-hull that is blue on the bottom half and metal on the top. I always wear a tan full brim hat. Say hi if you see me.
  16. Went out to the res today around 3. Didn't catch anything until 5:30 when I got a guy about 2.5-3# that I think I had just missed with my frog. Missed two with the frog actually. No rude boaters out at this point aside from a couple people that were a little closer than I would have preferred in the inlet I was in, but it didn't have my name on it. Nitro, were you out around this time? Saw a red john boat and almost said hi.
  17. Great tip on a great deal!
  18. BTW Er nurse friend says there have been more people in for copperhead bites this year than in the last 15 she has worked there. Just FYI.
  19. Tried Bb Sunday without a nibble. It had just cloud burst though so water was high and murky.
  20. I have seen good things on here about the academy ethos rods competing with the rods in this price range. I am starting to look at rods in this range as well. Any other thoughts?
  21. From what I have seen and verified through other more knowledgeable anglers, the big fish busting the surface in the summer are usually carp. No one seems to know why they do it.
