  1. St. Croix lists the weights in their catalog (at least they did in the 2007 edition), G. Loomis does not list weights in their catalogs and the Bass Pro catalog does not list weights. I know of no place where you can find comparable weights on different makes of rods. I have a small digital postal scale that weighs in 1/10 of ounces and have weighed some of my rods out of curiosity. I have been surprised at some of the weights of different rods, as far as the ones touted to be so much lighter when compared to others.
  2. Out of curiosity, I weighed the rods on my postal scale: the Loomis Frog rod weighs in at 6.9 oz., the Crucial flipping stick weighs in at 6.2 oz. and for comparison, I weighed my Falcon Cara 6'10" heavy (what I use for pitching) at 4.3 oz. The Cara surprised me, I knew it felt light but I didn't realize it was that light.
  3. 30 lb braid, I really don't have a brand preference.
  4. What I remember him saying was 7 foot heavy rod, fast action. Again, he said this worked for his style which was power fishing. Twenty plus years ago, he was the primary proponent of fiberglass rods for crankbaits. His Team Daiwa crankbait rod was graphite bottom with a 'glass top; blue blending into clear at the top.
  5. I don't know how you came up with this. I have fished Curados for years and there is no comparison. I quit using Curados when I started using the 50 Mgs. Sold my Curados on the flea market here. JMHO Compare the schematics for the 50 Mg and the CU100b.
  6. Rick Clunn also talked about his one rod system on the "Bass Pros" show last week. Two points that he mentioned more than once were that it worked for his style of fishing but that it wouldn't necessarily work for everybody and that while he used a 7' heavy rod for everything, he had a boat load of them set up for different baits and techniques.
  7. It is not twice the price. I think it's $50-60 more than the Curado. It's a good price point IMHO, b/c you pay $60 for a reel that is super light. SC The Curado 100b was $119; the 50 Mg was not changed when the Curado 100d came out. Therefore, the 50Mg was twice the price of the comparable Curado.
  8. I bought one this winter but haven't had a chance to fish it yet. I was surprised at how heavy it is. It is heavier than my Crucial 7'6" heavy flipping stick.
  9. I have never understood all the hype over the Chronarch 50mg; it is just a Curado 100b with a Magnesium frame. Shimano made a super marketing call on this one calling it a "Chronarch" and not a Curodo Mg. Twice the price to save a couple of ounces.
  10. I've been buying reels for 40 years and none have come with grease, many had a small container of oil, the others had nothing but none had grease.
  11. ABU Silicote oil and grease are reasonably priced and good quality lubricants.
  12. I can't believe you are saying that Revo's and Curado B's have graphite frames. Both definitely have aluminum frames.
  13. Watch KVD. He rarely touches the spool with his thumb and then only at the end of the cast.
  14. I have a pair of dykes in my emergency boat tool kit so I'm covered.
  15. If this happens while you are reeling in line, it may be the line guide roller needs cleaning/lubing.
  16. Look at the bottom of the reel foot (underside).
  17. I believe that reel is made in Korea. AFAIK, none of the ABU low profile reels are made in Sweden. I have recently noticed that some of the low profiles (Max series and I have heard Revo S) are now being made in China.
  18. It's called the "Smart Braking System". Just use the mag knob to set the lure drop like you would the cast control knob.
  19. "I cannot put in another bid, because you cannot outbid yourself." You can put in a higher maximum bid; doing so will not increase your current bid but will raise the maximum you are willing to pay.
  20. I retired last October and haven't had heartburn since.
  21. More bogus information. I have two All Star Carolina Rig rods; one made in Houston and one made in China, they are identical.
  22. I don't have either a Carrot stick or and Avid, but if I was going to buy one, it would be the Avid. I have never heard a negative comment about Avid rods and the St. Croix has been in business a long time which means the "Lifetime Warranty" means something. E21 on the other hand is a start up company. I googled "Thermalon" to find out about this material and was directed to E21's SEC 10K filing. E21 is primarily a golf club shaft manufacturer with "New Technology". The fishing rod side of their business is even newer and seems to be more of a "sidseline". I have seen many golfing enterprises with "new technology" go out of business in a short amount of time. (Anybody want to buy a set of Dave Pelz FeatherLite golf clubs that cost twice as much as Pings in 1985?). According to the filing, the company has no employees, only consultants (independent contractors) for management. Therefore, they must be contracting out their manufacturing. The "lifetime warranty" is only going to be for the lifetime of the rod or the company, whichever lasts the longest. Just my opinion.
  23. ABU should make it JDM only, then they could get $400 for it. ;D
  24. It evidently wasn't that good of a move, Shimano had to offer rebates to move inventory and/or meet the competition (Daiwa and Abu) who had comparable reels at lower price points.
  25. Before buzzbaits, spinnerbaits and soft plastics, no serious bass fisherman was without a Bass Oreno and/or a Heddon Lucky 13. Back in the day they were called "chuggers" or "chug plugs". Fish 'em on top with slight jerks or reel them slow and steady. BTW, Mark Sosin is the only person I have heard in years still call hard baits "Plugs".
