  1. The Wal Marts in Dallas have reduced the fishing (and hunting) departments by 50% at least in the last two years. I believe it is because of the competition from Academy, Dick's and Bass Pro. It is very likely that Bass Pro was interested in buying Gander Mountain and quite possibly were negotiating the deal. GM has had its ups and downs the past several years. Cabella's bought GM's "direct sales" (internet and catalog) division some time ago and GM could not reenter that segment under the agreement (there was a law suit that Cabela's won on that). Gander Mountain recently bought another company that is in the internet/catalog business in order to get back in that segment.
  2. Which is worse, goods produced in America by a foreign company or goods produced in a foreign country by an American company?
  3. You are not getting the $150 Midas reel that is on sale by itself for $99 and the rod is not a Midas Boron rod. This is another BPS Promo package made special for this sale. I can only suggest that you go look at the combo and decide if it is worth the money. Jump in Muddy.
  4. I am using Ardent reel butter oil and grease in all my baitcasting and newer spinning reels. Dodgeguy, will Ford or GM ATF work as well as Mopar ATF? ;D ;D ;D
  5. With Magnetic braking, even set at zero, you still have SOME braking force. Its just the nature of the beast, the magnetic field is still there, its just at a minimum setting. With centrifugal brakes, when they're set to off there is no friction on the drum so there is zero braking force.
  6. Another vote for Gorilla braid. I also have reels spooled with Spider Wire, Fireline and one with power Pro. The only one I really don't like is the Power Pro.
  7. Since this is a resurrected three year old thread, the "Buzzy" has been around for awhile.
  8. It's the rod, not the reel, especially in spinning tackle, that lets you make long, smooth casts. The Stadic is still being made, a new version came out this year.
  9. That's the only one that is on sale on the web site right now. The others are still regular price. the GT40x's are on sale during the fishing classic per the flyer.
  10. One reel per reel. The coupon cannot be used for rod and reel combos.
  11. I don't. I pick my spinner baits based on size, blades and color. The actual weight doesn't matter. BTW, I fish a spinner bait probably 50% of the time.
  12. I have both rods mentioned. The "Herm Special" is more versatile than the Eakins Jig rod. I use mine primarily as an old school Texas rig rod, but would not hesitate to throw jigs or larger spinnerbaits if the need arose.
  13. I would recommend the Black Max combo. That Shimano reel is the cheapest they make and is two grades below the Coriolis which even Roadwarrior doesn't like.
  14. Those are AGGIE answers. ;D ;D ;D
  15. There is an ad for it in the March "Field and Stream".
  16. I'm a retired CPA. I retired in October 2007 from Fox Television Stations.
  17. He wasn't old, alway wore an Atlanta Braves hat. He was the firts guy I saw that reeled a baitcaster with his left hand. His show started on TBS and then went on TNN later.
  18. I voted Bass Pro because I probably buy more from them lately since there is one a few minutes from my house. However, I'm lucky in that Within 30 - 40 minutes I have two Bass Pro's, several Academy's, two good locals (Barlows and Southwestern Parts) and a couple of Dicks. There is also a Cabela's about an hour away. The bait monkey gets a lot of choices around here!!!
  19. At that price point, I would buy a Symetre or Exceler.
  20. I picked up some Arky U-Head finesse jigs to try after Hank Parker recommended them. He said he had no connection with the company but they were the best he had used. the weight is not molded to the hook but is attached to the eye with a thin wire loop. The hook is a long shank offset worm hook.
  21. I'm a strong proponent of the K.I.S.S. principal. I use a baitcaster 90% of the time, but skipping a lure just seems to be best suited for spinning gear. I don't try to cast a weightless worm on a flippin' stick and I don't try to skip using a baitcaster.

Just be sure to attach it to a big float in case it gets dropped in the drink. I've seen the people on the saltwater shows use them with a big net float attached to the handle.
  23. Spinning or Baitcasting? For me (I'm right handed) Baitcast on the right, spinning on the left.
  24. It ain't where it starts, it's where it ends!
  25. Can't vote, no Calcutta's and no Cardiff's.
