  1. Thinking back on this it was a very scary moment at first but turned out to be hilarious. Was fishing a local electric only lake, nobody else on the water that I could see. All the sudden I hear yelling and turn around to see this GIANT white cloud, just pure white 100 yards behind me in the water. Had no clue what was happening. About 30 seconds later it cleared and there was a little jon boat with two guys in it. Turned out one of the guys wires had shorted and started a small fire and the guy emptied the entire fire extinguisher just spraying it everywhere. They electrical taped it up and kept on going, white clothes and all.
  2. Better not to ask. Once you find out its over
  3. Try more of a heavy lob cast than a snap cast. Snap casting can cause a lure to tumble uncontrollably through the air and they get fouled an awful lot. You could have done it and not noticed. Watch it as it flies and youll see. The wind is still a #1 culprit though
  4. I can assure you they all wont be that big. Congrats!
  5. I highly doubt he meant anything offensive to what he was saying
  6. The rain we got dropped the lake temps from 58 to the low 40's and there were 6.5 inches of it in 24 hours. Not warm light rain by any stretch of the imagination
  7. Double digit fish isn't the point of the article. It's for best bass fisheries which will and do change year in and year out and if you had the choice of catching a 20 lb limit in a day or the CHANCE at catching an 8 lber, the better fishery will almost always be a 20 lb limit. That being said, the Potomac should definitely be on that list. And they took a picture of one of my favorite docks to fish
  8. Heck I had water in the 60's down here. Well... not anymore since this rain just dumped over 6 inches on us
  9. Ranger reliability has a great record. Great company to deal with all around. The smaller companies that I had mentioned seem to pay a little more attention to the location on very small things such as where ruler slots are, or if things are adjustable and how some things can be customized within the boats. If I were to drop the money on one it would be with one of those. Performance wise they do tend to be a little faster which (Id have to look up exact numbers) but Im pretty sure they are a bit better on gas. On the other hand, Rangers are hands down some of the safest boats on the market due to how they inject foam in every possible section of them.
  10. Common thought would be Ranger. That being said, I would rather take a BassCat, Phoenix or Legend over the Rangers anyday. I prefer the lay out, performance, and so far the reliability reviews on them. Plus it stands out more than just "one of the 50 rangers" in the parking lot
  11. Ranger may have a reputation of being slow, but Ill tell ya one thing. A Z520 was only the second high end boat I have ridden in (next to a 2007 Champion 190) and it felt everything but slow. 70-75mph is just fine by me
  12. Im not going anywhere near that place when it opens. Its only 10 minutes closer to me than the Hamburg store which is 5 times the size
  13. I almost never reel it. 99% of the action I put on it is with sweeps of the rod then pick up slack with the reel. It is a good system around rocks and trees and anywhere you can actually fish a jig. I particularly like it on steep rocky banks down 20-25 ft in the summer on an 11/16 head
  14. It's not that the boats are small. It's because bass fisherman cram as much stuff as they can into their boat. Personally ill just go to the bank, couldnt care less
  15. If money was no object I would go with the Simms stuff. I got a jacket and bib set (uninsulated) of the Cabelas Bass Angler Guidewear (not because of the name but because of the design) and I love the stuff. Went on clearance too right when I was buying it
  16. If Im not mistaken, Rick Clunn took his smaller aluminum boat to one of the Elite tournaments a few years back because of the areas he was fishing in. I think it had a 115 on it and everyone was busting on him but he did well
  17. Reaction Innovations Double Wide Beaver
  18. BTW Ill be up on the Saranac chain the last full week of June. So Ill wave to you on the Thruway when we pass Ill let you know what was working. Im expecting higher water like last year due to all the snow they got up there
  19. Putting some scratches on the gelcoat of a bass boat would be the last thing I would worry about. If I had a pup that liked being on the boat she would be with me every time I go out. Much rather have her with me than stuck in the house all day. Thats what dogs are for. Yes it will happen, might help to build a little ramp for your pup to get back in if she falls in
  20. I keep mine 10x simpler than that. Tungsten weight Carolina Keeper Hook and plastic Thats really all there is to a basic carolina rig. Start adding stuff to that and its not only easier to snag or get weeds stuck on it but its more to go wrong. I will say though, if you use a barrel swivel in place of a carolina keeper, make sure you use a bead between the weight and knot. Heavy weights smacking into your knots on every cast really compromise them. (I prefer plastic beads for this because they hold up better and are easier on the line
  21. Big weights = second carolina keeper
  22. Havent fished that specific lake but have done very well throughout surrounding lakes. Tubes, drop shots and lipless cranks have worked very well in deeper water on ledges and points as well around islands. Spinnerbaits and inline spinners around the weed/lilly beds. Carolina rigged lizards as well as crankbaits and jigs have done the best through the downed evergreens along the shorelines and isolated woody cover. My advice is spend the first day fishing as much different stuff as you can whether its changing your lures or your location and youll quickly find a pattern. The smallies up there really tend to move as a whole group for some reason and when you find the sweetspot youll have a ball. Hope this helps.
  23. Opening certain hooks definitely has it's place. But this is not one of those applications. Let it sit as close to in line as possible. The purpose of this hook is to fish the tube weedless which opening it up defeats. You can never really tell through pictures alone
  24. Are you on the actual Lake Placid? Because the lake in the town is not Lake Placid
