What are your favorite rod brands?
Shimano/Loomis for me. I have some others I kept from other brands because I liked them a lot for certain things though. I find that there are just rods from different brands that just work great for the way I fish a certain bait or situation. - St Croix Avid 6'6" M/F, great Jerkbait Rod (Not the new Avid X) - Abu Garcia Gen 1 Veritas 7'3" MH/F (Awesome Multipurpose rod for everything 1/2 oz) - BPS Carbonlites (2) Best pond beaters when I don't want to bring my more expensive rods.

Best $300 or under reel
Met MGL, if it wasn’t for government making me pay duty, I’d buy more Mets. I can get the Chronarch MGL cheaper, so I’ve been going that route.

Shimano Chronarch vs Metanium
I’d go with the Met. Regarding the comment about plastic reel for the Chronarch. I will respectfully disagree. Maybe in 10 years I’ll get back to you, still enjoying my Chronarch MGLs. ?

Nice, let me know how well it fishes so I can be motivated to go across the border and find them.

That is still a great arsenal. Seems like where I live in the rods department (price wise). Always wanted to try Phenix Rods but it isn't readily available up here in Canada.

Zodias Heavy
I have that rod yes. At first I didn’t like it and usually I buy lower end for cranking rods (Shimano Sellus and Clarus). It grew on me though, I primarily use it for squarebills and works well. I also think it’s more a MH Crankbait rod, should keep that in mind also. It could handle baits my Sellus MH CB rod can handle, which is my medium depth cb rod.

New shimano woes... question
We are all weak....the monkey is always making you do things.

Zodias Heavy
I understand what you’re saying, however most likely after a year or season of fishing a new rod. Most likely any rod breakage afterwards is user error. Also I’ve known a couple people even though the warranties were out Shimano still replaced them. Plus I’m not sure why you brought this up, no offence why or how your reply was relevant to the thread?

New shimano woes... question
Shimano reels with VBS arguably was the best at set and forget. I can’t ever remember setting brakes back then And now on the water. I agree that the newer brake systems Shimano you had to “dial in”. However it is nearly set and forget still, you can fine tune the brakes now without opening the reel. So I don’t see how the set and forget was really lost on the new Shimano systems. Maybe I’m fishing them wrong? I actually like that I can fully detach a side plate, of course their are advantages and disadvantages. I just find it easier to tear down and clean.

New shimano woes... question
I cast left, own a Curado I, Metanium, Chronarch, my fingers are all tucked under the handle on the cast. I guess I can see how that can happen. I feel like you have your postcopied and ready to paste. ?

Best $200 and under reel
X3 no brainer at that price for a Chronarch MGL.

Does an upper end Baitcaster make you better?
I don't think it makes fish jump in your boat, however there are small things that a higher end reel or different technology that would make it "easier" for you to to fish. Like a certain reel maybe able to make it easier to skip, pitch, bomb a crankbait, bottom contact, moving baits...etc. Definitely makes it more enjoyable to fish all day. I have reels from BPS PQs all the way up to a Conquest. One specific time last year where I was like, hrm I don't think I can fish lower end reels any longer. This was a day I had my Chronarch MGL out with me and I had my Citica with me. Although the Citica performed to what I needed it to do, the Chronarch was just easier to fish and less effort on the cast/retrieve. I was also able to reach targets much easier than my Citica and literally had the urge to pick up my Chronarch MGL setup.

Champion XP/IMX Question
Sensitivity in my opinion is also different for everyone. If you feel that the IMX you have is more sensitive and if you are using it for bottom contact. Seems like a no brainer to me.

G Loomis casting rod question
Seems like a no brainer for 50% off. I would've bought it in a heartbeat. Wouldn't even came on here to even ask!

Personal favorite reel brand
I agree, I have 3 of them. They are tanks, unfortunately it seems someone else agrees that they are good because I left two at my cottage, during renovations it seems they've gone missing. I'm not 100% ruling out they weren't stolen and misplaced, but they aren't where I stored my reels in an old green tool box! So it is likely. They were my beater and lender reels. I wouldn't hesitate though in recommending them to people new to baitcasters.

Personal favorite reel brand
Shimano....still debating on getting a Daiwa Steez, but hard to pass up on a Chronarch MGL or Metanium MGL every time.
