  1. lol Catt, exactly! All of the above are true. Yes it looks like a craw, yes bass can see black great in the water, yes blue is probably a good contrast color with the black. Whatever the reason, what's amazing is that they don't stop biting it. It must really push their buttons. And in my opinion, color absolutely does matter especially with slow-moving baits.
  2. Here's my 2c about what Kevin wrote. You will find it enlightening! http://bassblaster.bassgold.com/my-2c-about-kevins-payouts-column
  3. 100 mph and Cabela's Guidewear have always been the best, but I heard the UA stuff is good too. Not sure about Huk.
  4. Tx for posting this! HUGE Skynyrd fan, always will be.
  5. Great fisherman and great book. We have forgotten a lot of great stuff from the pioneers of bassin'.
  6. Power Worms are a staple, tough to beat in colored water.
  7. Many historic depth charts -- historic meaning been around for a while -- aren't accurate, as we're all finding out. This is why mapping companies are mapping the lakes with the increasingly better sonar, and while one or two are trying to get fishermen to do that for them.
  8. Super clear water for me = soft plastics in green pumpkin, all-black or black/chartreuse tail, and believe it or not original floating Rapalas (old-school, always work)
  9. Did you see any fish activity anywhere you fished? Baitfish, bluegills, bass, anything?
  10. +1 on Sea Foam Motor Treatment -- in gas, in oil, maybe fog it and leave it for a bit too
  11. Keep the small bass and the panfish, eventually you'll have some nice bass.
  12. The above answers are right. It's all about efficiency and fish health, both of which matter big-time to tournament anglers.
  13. How long has the line been on your reel?
  14. Nothing will fix line twist except getting a baitcaster, which is totally worth it.
  15. Definitely Lews in that price range. Also agree re: medium heavy. Can look for a softer tip if you'll be doing a lot on top or want longer casts. Have fun shopping!
  16. Interesting ideas. I think what will change everything is POV cameras like GoPros. Just my .02
  17. For bass fishing, everything will be better with a baitcaster. Cast, presentation, hookset, fish fighting, no line twist, probably some more stuff I'm forgetting. Try it out, you won't go back. Just make sure if you reel lefty you get a cating reel that's lefty.
  18. If it matters, some of what's in this thread is wrong, some is right. I've been covering the sport for 20 years (dang, gettin' up there!), know many of the Elites well, etc. Sorry, not bragging just know about this from firsthand experience. The bottom line is the pros will use whatever they feel they need to use to catch the fish to win. Afterward, some are allowed say what they used honestly, some are not. Imo the issue is not as big of a deal or difference as some think, but that's just my opinion The pros are usually WAY more honest than weekend warriors -- which I understand, but just sayin'....
  19. Sweet jerk shot rig! Make sure you watch your line. Sometimes they suck it in and u won't feel it.
  20. Happens on EVERY level, believe me. Part of it.
  21. Get a bag of dark-colored 7" plastic worms, some 1/4 or 1/8 oz weights and a pack of good (Gamakatsu) hooks, 3/0 or 4/0. Then seine that pond slowly and work on your hooksets. Good luck!
  22. Rootbeer or green pumpkin swimming grubs or hula grubs on a jighead = money! Other than that, crankbaits (Luhr Jensen Speed Trap is one of my faves for smallies) and topwaters (Spook Jr is one of my faves) are what I would fish. Good luck!
  23. Yep braid with fluoro or mono leader, fluoro is better!
  24. Did you try fishing the wind-blown banks, where the waves are crashing. Usually a good bet with some type of moving bait.
  25. Awesome, good luck, will be in today's BassBlaster so hope it helps!
