  1. A dark color ribbon tail on a 3/16 - 1/4 oz is my all time best producer and I usually have one tied on. So versatile.
  2. Nobody and I mean nobody beats UK 32 straight times...lol. Glad its over, I was at last year's game and thought the streak was going down that night.
  3. Been watching it on the Weather Channel, this looks like the real deal for the Carolina area. You guys and gals stay safe down there!
  4. AllStar is my favorite. I still use every one I've ever bought. They make up about half of my collection.
  5. A uni knot is a fairly easy knot that's strong.
  6. Straight <insert favorite line>, no leaders for me. I lean toward braid on spinning gear. Mono on casting gear.
  7. Welcome to the forum! Watch out, that collection of lures thing is a slippery slope..lol

Will you guys stop, everytime you mention this thing my bait monkey wakes up? He's close to winning this time, who am I kidding, he always wins. ?

Interesting... I ended up grabbing some cheaper H20 Xpress Poppers that look pretty good but the selection on Poppers at Academy wasn't great. These is probably no way to answer this but I wonder what makes the Popmax that much better. Can the fish even see anything other than the bottom? Maybe the bubbles from the gill openings?

So many poppers, so liittle time....and money, lol. I'm going to check some of these out tonight when I get home. Thanks....

I've never been much of top water guy, especially poppers. I've had two forever that never saw the light of day. Recently, I redid my tackle by putting pretty much everything I own in one very big box. So it's got me trying "new things" because I can see everything. The two poppers I have, or had..lost one last night bank fishing, were the Pop-R and a Norman Top Dollar. Normally, I fish from my boat so I don't expect to lose a lot of these but I want to buy a couple more. Any reason not to just go back with the Pop-R? My only complaint is that it seems to be a panfish magnet. Are there some better poppers? Also, any tips on working it. I remember the old timers saying to pop it, let all the rings settle before popping again, that's pretty much what I've been doing but want to play around with different retrieves. I read somewhere that burning a popper works sometimes. What have you had succes on?
  12. Yup, my 17lb on my pitching rod did the same. I thought it was the thick diameter, sounds like not the case.
  13. Running a Spinnerbait repeatedly past tank fish wouldn't exactly reproduce real world scenarios but it does give some insight into Bass behavior. The problem ( which is good for us) with that is every Shad, Bream, or Crawdad they suck in "reprograms" the fish that moving objects are tasty. At least that's how I picture it working.
  14. I see both sides of the coin here but I'm definitely in the "Time on the water camp". I've fished mainly three bodies of water this Summer. 1.) My normal stained lake. 2.) A new clear creek for Smallies 3.) A new clear pond I now have access too. I don't know the primary food source. In the lake, I'd bet its Gizzard Shad and Crawdads. But I bet Bluegill and Salamanders aren't far behind. In the pond and creek, probably some of the same with the exception of the Shad. I catch fish using the same techniques in all three. Soft plastics, Jigs, and Poppers have been my biggest producer this Summer. Especially the Ned. The Ned works well in all three spots. These are all lures that I have developed confidence in with time on the water. My number one producer all time is a Texas rig worm. It doesn't look like a Shad or a Crawdad.
  15. I never use leaders. I do darken about a rod's length of hi viz braid with a marker but even that is probably more for me than the fish.
  16. Drag a <insert favorite jig/plastic> down it to the bottom and across it off both sides at different angles. Just don't do it when it's being used. Every ramp I've fished has produced for me at some time.
  17. It's no wonder I don't catch fish, I need to bring along an abacus to figure them out.?
  18. Yeah, I'm a sucker for new and improved line. I was going to wait until some reviews came out but I needed some line for my pitching rod and went ahead and pulled the trigger on some 17 lb Advanced. Low stretch and sensitive sure, but the third time out it had a lot of memory like you mentioned. If lower stretch mono is your thing, I'd stick with Yozuri Hybrid or Stren Magnathin. YMMV
  19. Yup, I'm in the swing club. You can catch a Bass on an unsure swing. I've done it more times than I can remember. I also have caught a lot of tree pounders...lol
  20. I'm a righty that reels left handed, do I get half credit?

I throw a black and blue jig with that Sapphire Blue a bunch. But somedays a black trailer seems to be the ticket. Never have found a link with sunny or cloudy, I just start with one and switch if needed.
  22. I did a double take too on the price but might be worth it. Any chance you could spin it and use some investment analogy? ?
  23. I went with a group kayaking yesterday. Only 4 of us were really fishing. We were about 30 mins from the takeout from a 4 hour trip and I only had two smallies, which was about like everyone else. I opened a pack of the lunchworm that I bought last week and put them on a drop shot. I caught 6 in the last 30 mins and my two biggest. So, yes. You can fish it on a drop shot..lol. Not sure if it was the worm or just breaking out the DS, but I'm eager to take them with me in the big boat and see what they can do. Nice review. Edit: I've been using Powerbait since the late 80's. I agree, this stuff smells nothing like the Original which is kind of strange since it's called Max Scent ???
  24. Never thought of reporting this stuff, figured it would turn into a he said she said deal. But it makes sense to report. I usually handle it the wrong way by having words with the knuckle heads. Glad you're ok Donuts!
  25. For baitcasters I use a long nail that's hammered up in my shop, line comes off the top. Spinning reels just flat on the floor, line coming off counter clockwise. Keep tension with my fingers. Never had a problem.
