  1. i have seen doug's snakes, and they are junk. way too expensive, and they material is just weak. living in florida, snakes are a great bait. i make my own 16" snake and it is killer during the summer in the everglades. sometimes the bass down here do not want the big snakes, but will eat a smaller version. when this is the case, a black zoom trickworm with a 5/0 gama ewg is flat out deadly! jmo
  2. i only fish a chatterbait in the winter, and i fish it with a fast steady retrieve. i also live in florida, and i know people in other states fish it differently.
  3. just remember---ya get what ya pay for.
  4. i just purchased and installed the 383c humminbird. it was the only gps/ff/depth i could find that came with an in hull transducer. does anyone have any pros or cons about this particular model? i have installed it and i have the transducer held to the inside bottom of my hull with clay. i put it in the water to see if it reads, which it does. i will mount it permanantly after i fish with it this weekend. any reviews or opinions about this particular model is what i would like to hear from you all. thanks in advance. oh yea the reason i had to get the in hull transducer, is because i have a pathfinder flats boat that has a tunnel hull and the only available space i can use an external transducer is taken up by my trim tabs. and i wasn't to keen on drilling a hole through my hull and use a thru hull transducer. thanks for any info.
  5. tackle warehouse. quick and they have a great variety of baits. for my saltwater needs, i go with anglersupply.com
  6. power pro on all my rods. from 10# up to 65#.
  7. the 1/4 oz. baby bass diamond shad is a killer bait.
  8. what "real frog" have you ever seen that has a spinner hanging out of its ***? i am with valascus, i will stick with my swamp donkey, and spro frogs.
  9. i have a flats boat, and i do a lot of bass fishing in it. just this weekend, i was at lake okeechobee and i poled myself into some water that was 6-8 inches deep. i caught 2 keepers and finished 5th in my club tourny. i ALWAYS use my pushpole when freshwater fishing. especially when my trolling motor starts getting too loud and kicking up lots of mud and weeds.

simple: soft plastic frogs like the horny toad, cane, and the others, sink. the hollow bodied frogs like the swamp donkey, spro and the others float. here in florida, sometimes bass want a frog that is moving, but sometimes they want a frog that is stationary. jmo. trick is finding which one they want.
  11. all any fisherman can do is monitor his or her behavior/actions/attitude on any givin tourny. my greatest tourny was when i won with a 5 fish stringer weighing 34.15. that day DURING the tourny, a boat with 2 recreational fisherman saw that i was absolutely crushing them, and they asked what i was throwing. i asked if they were in the tourny, and they said they were not. i then handed them a bag of the soft plastics i was throwing, and told them how to use the bait. 3 hours later, i weighed in and crushed the field to win $975 and both big fish pots. while i was waiting to receive my winnings, both of the fellas that i gave the soft plastics to came up to me with a 12 pack and said thanks. they both stated that they NEVER caught so many big bass in their lives. my point being, KARMA---what goes around comes around. if you are polite/nice/respectful, it will come back to 10 fold.
  12. fool as in foolish comment. so what you are saying is that if you gut hooked a 5 pounder in a tourny, and the fish was going to die, you would let him go and not take the 8oz. penalty? i think not, therefor your comment was foolish, very foolish and only a fool would do what you "say" what you would do. here in florida, FWC is at most of the weigh ins, and they take all of the dead fish and give it away to either the nearest homeless shelter or any patron that is willing to keep the fish to eat, or put the dead fish back in the water and let nature take its place. i am not attacking you personnally, just the foolish statement you made.
  13. good job okeechobee. don't sweat what that fool says about your fish. he obviously didn't read your post when you stated that one fish "was dieing", and not dead yet. great job-you did nothing wrong.
  14. i need some advice on what gps/fishfinder/depthfinder etc. to buy. i am willing to spend up to $500. i have done some research on the eagle 480, garmin ff 400, and the hummingbird 383c. these have what i am looking for, but i don't know which one is "the choice". please help. i was also looking at all of the lowrance models. any help would be greatly appreciated.
  15. when chatterbaits were all the rage about a year ago, i got snagged in what i thought was about 5 feet of water. i jumped off my boat and realized that it was about 10feet and continued to follow the line down to my chatterbait. i got it, and was scared shitless, because i live in florida and at the time people were getting killed by some big gators. look at avids pics, that is what i was woried about.
  16. right on senko. great response. i live in florida as well, and the idea you gave about the rattle trap is killer. will it change the way it swims? gonna give it a go tomorrow at loxahatchee.
  17. never had a problem with tackle warehouse. in fact, most of the time my order comes in 3-4 business days. i disagree with you raul about the sunday thing. i have ordered many times on sundays to make sure i have them by the next weekend. it usually gets processed first thing monday morning and i have conformation by the time i get home from work. bass pro on the other hand........
  18. thank you gentlemen. i am going tomorrow to loxahatchee and i am going to give it a go. thanks for the knowledge.
  19. just got my matt lure male bluegil and i'm stoked. this thing looks amazing. i notice a spot for a treble. does anyone add a treble hook or not? i live in south florida and i will be working this bait through all kinds of vegetation. should i add that extra hook? is there any preventitive measures i can take to make the bait a little stronger before i get it wet? i just see that tail getting worked.
  20. bacon rind is a great flipping bait. whenever i flip a big bait, i always flip a bacon rind. blue/black
  21. here in florida, night fishing is way better than day fishing during the summer. our daytime water temps reach 90degrees, so bass are lethargic and don't eat during the day as heavily as they do at night. example i fished a spot 2 days ago from sun up until noon, and caught 20 fish. fished the same spot last night from 9 to 2 and caught over 50 fish. same stretch, same baits only black, and wacked them. i highly suggest night fishing.
  22. throw all of your normal baits, but black in color. i just started night fishing this year, and i am hooked. it is amazing how well big bass hone in on dark colored baits. good luck.
  23. i have a 17 foot pathfinder flats boat. i fish fresh water a lot. i also do quite a bit of snook and tarpon fishing on it as well. this summer i fished in 10 bass tournaments out of my flats. i love it. it is more versatile. you could never put a bass boat in saltwater without something going wrong. i also have a removable mount for my trolling motor.
  24. perfectly said Matt Fly. zona has that wwf mentality, and it gets weak real quick. there is a show on sunshine network here in florida called the Florida Fishing Report on thursdays @ 7:30, and the host is rick murphy. bass fishing needs someone like that. a great angler with character. it sucks that basscenter is no longer. as crusty as it was, i still watched. i say LBH should get that gig.
  25. hey kb. what are the chances of you making a crank that mimics a mayan cichlid? i live in florida and these are the fish that big bass are eating right now. if i sent you a pic and some cash, could you make me a couple of them? your work looks great, and nobody is making a cichlid crank.
