  1. Yeah we usually do a dollar for biggest fish. Its pretty much for bragging rights. Fun times though !
  2. Fishing up in Maine can be incredible at times. Being confined to the shoreline sucks. Get yourself a small johnboat or a canoe.
  3. Its a nice bass none the less !
  4. I weigh every bass I catch that is 3 lbs or better. I hate to guestimate and that is why I always bring my rapala digital scale, extra set of batteries and a one pound weight. If I were to guess I would say between 5lbs 8oz and 5lbs 12oz. It does have a big mouth but it doesn't have the mouth of a 7 or 8 lber. You should be able to almost fit both hands in a 7 or 8 lbers mouth.
  5. Up here in New England once the shallow weeds die I look for deeper weeds in 15 feet or more. Some will stay green for the entire winter. I also fish bluff banks and wood once the shallow weeds have died.
  6. Since I got to work this weekend I am going to get my bass fix through you. You better post some pics of some lunkers.
  7. A good top water night bite is a blast. "Secret spots" ? Everywhere I fish has boat launches.
  8. Lets see some bass Grizz ! I got to work this weekend. I wont be able to get out fishing again until the 25th.
  9. I rarely eat lobster. I am too busy bass fishing. The last three fish were from Vermont.
  10. Silver buddy. Especially in the next few weeks. Fish it just like you would a jig but a lot of takes happen on the fall. Lift and drop. This techniques really shines in November and late October.
  11. I tie my braid straight to my jig. I use 50lb power pro.
  12. A couple cull fish from this past Saturday. Bluebird skies. Variable wind. Both of these fish were caught on jigs. The 6-8 was caught in 20ft of water and the 3-5 was in 10-12 feet. Cull # 1 22.5 inches 6lbs 8oz Cull # 2 18.75 inches 3lbs 5oz This was the best fish I caught on Monday. Overcast off and on light rain. Light wind. Caught this one and mots of the other 42 bass I caught this day on a crank bait. Cull # 3 19.5 inches 3lbs 12oz My top 5 are : 23, 22.5, 22, 19.5, 18.75 For a total of 105.75 inches
  13. Once the water gets real cold in the 40s its buddy time for me. 20-40 feet deep around schools of baitfish.
  14. I have still be able to get a few on plastic worms. On Saturday I landed 10 on plastic worm and 8 on a jig. Jig fish were bigger on average. Couple days later with some really good cloud cover the crank bait bite was on fire. Fall fishing can be amazingly good. I catch some of my biggest bass in Sept and Oct. Like Grizz said though in November it really slows down. I have had better luck in the fall with a silver buddy then a jig. I usually put the boat away when I cant brake through the ice anymore.
  15. Nice pics guys. The fishing wa pretty good for me this past weekend too. I got a couple fish I can cull my two smallest ones with. Saturday the weather wasnt the best or fishing here in Vermont. Bluebird skies made the shallower fish a little uncooperative. In 8 hours of fishing ny friend and I landed 29 largemouth in 10-22 feet on jigs and rubber worms. Lunker was 6-8 at 22.5 inches. Pics to come soon. I fishes yesteday solo in the light rain and the crankbait bite was on fire. Landed 43 largemouth for the day fishing around deep milfoil beds. Lunker for the day was 3-12 at 19.5 inches. Caught a 3-8 and a 3-4 also on crankbait. Water temp was 58-60 degrees both days. I will post pics as soon as I download them onto the computer.
  16. Ossipee has giant smallmouth in it.
  17. Who is going fishing this weekend and where are you going ?
  18. I made the measuring board for my small boat. It works really well. It is also better for the fish too. They loose a lot of slime when you put them down on the bottom of the boat or on the ground. I polyurethaned my measuring board. Just splash a little water on before you measure. It allows the fish to keep more of its protective slime coat.
  19. I use a Rapala digital scale. They are around 20 dollars and take one 9 volt battery. Seems to work the best for me. I have tried other scales with mixed results. I do not have confidence in spring scales. They need to be calibrated often. The Berkeley digital scales suck. I have had the Rapala digital for a few years now. As far as weight of that fish... It is hard to say. 25 inches is a big bass. Doesn't look exceptionally fat though. I think NEjitterbugger said it right though. Fish come in all shapes. Its all about the girth.
  20. Live Target crawfish brown/orange 6-8ft diver square bill. Most effective smallmouth crankbait I have found.
  21. Try a spinnerbait. They work well for me and allow me to cover water. Another option is the buzzbait. Between these two lures you should be able to catch a few fish at night and some lunkers too.
  22. Got fish # 5 to fill out my limit. Fish #5 17 inches 2lbs 13 oz Time to upgrade
  23. What is every ones preferred crankbait set up ? rod, line, reel, etc
  24. I have caught my biggest fish in the worst weather as well. Rain, string winds and even snow. The change in barometric pressure really gets the big fish biting. I have had my best luck a few hours before the front hits, as it is hiting, and a few hours after it has come through. Chances are that if the weather is bad there also will be fewer people fishing as well and the bass wont be as wary. The bass senses are also hindered by inclement weather, it is harder for them to detect or spot you. Fishing in bad weather is one of my favorite times to fish, it adds another challenge to it.
