Makes sense considering the tournament mg and bb1 have elongated handles etc...makes me wonder about the extended 95mm carbon fiber handles. Those things are aweet

The originals were the first technique specific rods I ever bought. For the money they can't be beat IMO. I know some people who have the newer spinning ones and say they are lighter and more sensitive. If they are as good as the originals, you can't go wrong

In that situation I want something high speed. You are usually fishing deeper water and therefore there is gonna be a large amount of line out and some slack. when a fish bites, you are gonna want something that can pick up line really quickly in order to keep the fish pinned. I use a high speed zillion in 7.3:1. Price wise there are a ton of options depending on what you are willing to pay. Several threads here mention great deals or higher end stuff. Really high speed reels like the Abu STX, Daiwa Zillion Type R, Lew's Tournament Pro or Super Duty, BPS Pro Qualifier, h20 mettle etc will all give you what you want.

Lews tournament mg has a longer handle, high line capacity for big line and 14lb of drag. Super duty is good too but harder to find at the $100 price point. The daiwa lexa has a much lower drag rating but I have used it for frogs and it has done surprisingly well. Curado g7 can be had for that price as well. What you need to focus on is that whichever reel you choose, it's a high speed ala 7:1. High speed helps you retrieve the lure quicker to make another pitch as well as bring the big ones in when you finally catch em

I always used a leader and never had a problem with it. I loved the casting ability and sensitivity. Seriously, based on what people say about it I think I must have gotten luck. Never had one break off on the entire spool of 8lb line.

Flipping usually means a longer rod. I pitch with anything from 6'10 to 7'4. Alot depends on the weight if the lure and the tip of the rod. Softer tip is easier to pitch with

They are a great great bait. For the price they cannot be beat as a flipping/pitching and punching bait. Best bait of the havoc lineup. You will catch bass anywhere.

I had a few of the generation 1's and they were great rods for the money. Only gripe was that they were way stiffer than their rating and a tad heavy but at that price they were the best rod out there. All Abu rods are heavier than their rating though so if you take that into account you should be good. 30 bucks is a steal

People hate on nanofil but I used the 8lb with no problems. Cast great, was sensitive. Great line just a bit expensive

Got mine on my fluke setup with a champion 683c and 15lb fluro. That thing can bomb flukes and senkos a mile...so light. Great reel

I gotta say I had no problems ever with 14lb vanish on my fluke setup..used it for 3 year with no problems. Must have gotten lucky. That being said, I switched to higher end fluoro like sniper shooter and invizx and haven't looked back. Invizx has stretch but is smooth casting.

I double up my DX Mike Long Jig rod as a Carolina rig rod. Heavy action (But more medium heavy). It has the action, length and sensitivity needed for deep water stuff. High speed reel and 17lb Fluoro. I don't really focus on the leader specifically because I use extra fluoro from spools which don't have enough line on them to put on a reel. Great way to use high pound test fluoro. Weight is dependent on wind and depth since I always want to maintain bottom contact. Usually 3/4 oz.

Yea man I think they are great...really good at staying on the keeper...as sleek and trip of a punching bait as you can get

I don't do enough to justify a rod specifically for punching. I double up my frogging rod which is the champion 736. Great tip and 65lb braid does double duty for both applications. I like trokar flipping hooks because they aren't as long as other hooks. I can upsize my hook and use a wider variety of bait sizes. If you want a great bait that doesn't move, check out the Havoc Slop Craw. It was a plastic keel like keeper built into the bait which adds an extra place to keep the bait on beside the hook keeper. You can use one bait for a long long time.

I've owned them all. Veritas is lightest but more tip heavy. It is also EXTREMELY stiff. I picked up a 7ft heavy and it has no tip. Close to a broomstick as you can get. I would put it much closer to an extra or mag heavy. To put it in comparison, I have a champion 736 and it is much easier to bend. I won't use braid on it because it will have literally no stretch. However, with Fluoro it is a great heavy jig/t rig rod. My medium spinning rod is at least a medium heavy. Again, heavier rating than listed. I had 3 mojos and they were much more well rounded rods. Again, they are generally heavier than their rating but not even close to the veritas. The slop and frog rod was very heavy and tip Heavy to boot but it was a sold rod. The plastics rod was just as rated. Medium fast was a true medium fast. The vendettas are good for the price but the heaviest of the 3. Again, very stiff rods. Abu does have a good warranty. Veritas rods have a rep for breaking so the warranty is a good cover. I would say bring your reel and try them on each if U can... Balance means the most imo
