  1. i been catching a ton of southern stingrays on lures while fishing for flounder. I was almost spooled twice by them. Sharks being faster and more predatory, it's no surprise.
  2. tthose are definitely stripers even with the broken lines. The shape is unmistakeable.
  3. Tappinbass, I believe your issue may in fact be related to the handle play as I suspected earlier. I opened up my reel and there was plenty of factory grease on the gears, and did not need to have sprayed any in the oil port like I did. My reel only had a single washer on the main gear instead of the two listed on the schematic. Since the fj, ci4+, and bairunner d all share the same gear washers, I decided to take one out of my other reel and add it into my straci ci4+. Afterwards, I put it all together and the feeling was too tight, so I disassembled again and replaced the stainless one with the thinner copper washer and now everything feels perfect. It's a shame I had to disassemble a brand new shimano to fix this issue, but no one's perfect. Hopefully this helps you and anyone else with the same problem.
  4. Ok, so I lubed my reel and the geariness and noise hasn't changed. Considering the lateral play/movement in the handle, I'm guessing it needs an extra washer on the drive gear, and that would then fix the annoying feeling. Do you have the same play in the handle? Perhaps we have the same issue.
  5. Round reel lover here, but one of these days will need to get my first lowprofile. But for now, I got too much stuff already.
  6. 12lb line shouldn't be an issue even with a clinch. As someone already said, take your time and lube the line prior to tightening. With that said, I highly recommend the palomar knot. I use it from the lightest of lines to upwards of 60lb mono.
  7. Yep, yozuri hybrid is some good stuff. I been using 6lb for freshwater and inshore use on flounder and weakfish, and I don't worry about being undergunned at all. I can put some pretty good pressure on the fish, but also light enough to be fun as well.
  8. And yes, it's noisy too. it sounds like its from the gears, because it kind of feels like its rubbing on something. Hopefully DVT is around for some answers.
  9. That's funny cause I just bought a stradic ci4+ as well and used it maybe three times and since the very beginning it felt very geary -- like there's no grease at all inside the reel. Also, there is a little bit of lateral play on the handle.
  10. Great, I'll go with the 2500 then. Three confirmations are enough for me. Thanks for the prompt response everyone, I appreciate it.
  11. Thanks, I was thinking that a 2500 would be fine, but wanted a second opinion before I pulled the trigger.
  12. I honestly believe the next or future world record striped bass would be in freshwater instead of salt.
  13. I never understood the logic of "trash fish" either. I also see that same logic in saltwater fishing too. For instance, there are plenty of harder pulling fish species with more tenacity than stripers or red drum, but people would rather not deal with them. It truly is ironic when you think about it.
  14. I use rosco snaps and swivels for saltwater fishing, which are American made. Definitely quality stuff right there. I agree with you 100%. Afterall, we are still supporting businesses here regardless of where the product is made.
  15. Hey all, I just bought a brand new st croix legend tournament 6'8" medium power xtra fast action spinning rod on a whim (hey it was listed for $59.99) and was thinking of getting a 2500 shimano or equivalent daiwa reel for it. What do you guys think overall? Too big or perfect size? Or perhaps a 1000 or 2000 size? I was thinking of getting the jdm equivalent of the saros, the nasci 2500, which has a much slower 5.0 gear ratio, which I can get around $80-90 bucks since everything is cheaper in Japan now. Thanks for any input.
  16. Hey josh, i know the rocket reel company has two spool sizes, but don't know if it's necessarily what you are looking for. They are based in England and the company is targeted for long distance casters, so I would email them and ask about it. I dealt with them before and they are very prompt and helpful with all the questions I had.
  17. definitely some crazy bluefish this year with tons of big ones. I throw out a big metal lip swimmer and as soon as I hear the big splash when it hits the water I get a bite. Not always but when they turn on then it can get like that. I see people bring out big trash bags when the cooler is filled.
  18. Nice fish there Bob. I don't believe walleye are in my area, but they sound like fun. Legal? Probably. Regardless of the daily limits, it's not like he caught all 64 fish in a single day.
  19. Wow, that thing is huge. It looks a lot like a red drum, but they are in the same family. They are a fun and relaxing fish to target.
  20. I know nothing about paddlefish or even that they are considered to be good eating, but if they are plankton eaters, then I don't see any other way. Keep in mind, it's not about sport, but more about food. Of course, I'm only going by what Kevin was saying and don't see any reason he'd lie. Unless it's an invasive species I don't see anyone killing "trash fish" just for the sake of it.
  21. I think a palomar knot would be a good alternative. It's easier to cinch and tighten down properly than the clinch and improved clinch.
  22. Maybe the different types of teasers are regional or I just haven't looked for that kind or noticed it. The ones I buy are just different colored hair tied to your size of hook. I usually get charteuse, yellow, and white. There are also more sofisticated kinds that are made with a different material. I know most people associate curly tail grubs with smaller fish or bass fishing, but they are used for all different species such as cod and even halibut. Sometimes I use it as a teaser in front of a bigger lure or even get the teeny tail sizes for making sabiki rigs.
  23. I caught 21 on the 16th. They were all nice and fat and filled with roe. They looked like toads with their round bellies when I pulled them out of the water. I talked to the conservation officer and he was surprised I got so many. He sees me all the time, lol ( he covers a large area ).
  24. Big fish are caught on flies and teasers. Actually, I catch more fish on my tiny teasers than I do on my larger lures. The small hooks pose no problems in hook ups. As long as they are strong I'm confident. As far as fishing shows go, Jeremy Wade and Zeb Hogan are the only two I can watch without getting bored. Seriously, I'm not able to watch traditional sport fishing channels. It's just so boring.
  25. I wish I could tell you, but when I was there I wasn't very interested in fishing as much as I am now. Also, I remember it being very expensive to purchase things there. I was stationed in Korea and it was only a 45 minute flight. Very nice and clean. I'm guessing you were in the Marines?
