  1. meh, not my style of fishing. I didn't watch the video, because I watched a similar video last night, and the pole he was using was 14 METERS long! he had to set 3 or 4 lawn chairs behind him to rest the pole on. I wouldn't mind having a pay lake with some big carp and other fish and do some UK style of fishing once in a while though. They have some big bream type fish and they look fun to catch. But I like a rod and reel.
  2. I have a shimano TLD 15/30s and 3 Penn 320 gt2s. My dad bought the Penns a while ago, which was still made in the US when he got them. All of them are solid graphite frames and side plates, and plenty strong. I was raised on deep sea and wreck fishing as a kid, and they are what we've always used. The graphite has held up great in the corrosive saltwater environment and big fish. I can't say the same for the the metal components like the handle and level wind assembly, which I had to disassemble and refurbish back to looking new. Of course I prefer a metal frame and sideplates on my conventional gear, but it's mostly for asthetic reasons and the way it feels in my hands, but I would not discount a well built graphite either.
  3. Stripers the most common and then maybe catfish.
  4. Cool, I read that they fight harder than stripers of comparable size and I wouldn't doubt it one bit. They look thicker and are shaped like footballs. They need to stock some near me and I'll be a happy man.
  5. Yep, it's definitely a chub of some sort, which are nice looking fish. Gizzard shad are oval shaped and grotesque looking in comparison.
  6. I love a nice looking reel that's made of quality. I would much rather spend my money on that then a rod of similar price and quality. I just enjoy holding it in my hands much more and looking at it.
  7. Maybe it was originally raised in an aquarium and fed a protein packed diet.
  8. Are you referring to the Calcutta D? I saw a couple videos of him talking about it as if it was the greatest thing ever invented since sliced bread. It was his enthusiasm that had me look into purchasing one. Hasn't the Calcutta B been out for a while now?
  9. Are you saying the main and pinion gears are interchangeable for both reels? I was really looking into the Calcutta d, but if this is true then that's quite disappointing. Especially the price difference between the $100 Cardiff and $365 Calcutta 300 is outrageous.
  10. Nope, I always have my license on me, but I did get fined $125 a few years ago for literally nothing! I met plenty of game wardens and they were always friendly, but this guy was wacked.
  11. I don't remember having a problem with another fisherman when freshwater fishing. Even during the weekends, I'm okay. It's the dog owners that really get under my skin.
  12. I do agree that some people get too carried away, especially when there's a really good bite or blitz going on. I remember one person jumping down to one of the bridge abutments at an inlet throwing a cast net in ripping current during a great run of herring and bluefish. You can just drop a lure down and get a hit almost instantly, so I though it was really silly and not much fun at all. I don't even think he caught anything. There are also the countless muggings when I get one dinky fish. It's like I won the lottery. As long as people don't act too crazy about it then it doesn't bother me. I don't think I agree with you on that. I just don't see a fish geneticaly adapting to avoid lures, because the ones that weren't caught just happened to be smarter.
  13. Even if it's an all day thing, all I usually have is a bottled water and plenty of hot coffee. It's like I forget to eat and by the end of the day I'm famished. I go all out for dinner.
  14. I have no problems with people keeping their catch. Generally, when I'm fishing freshwater then it is most likely catch and release. Instead of taking home and cleaning fish, I rather just go relax for a few hours and come home nice and clean. I do enjoy fishing for and keeping channel catfish and bullheads, but mostly it's just bass fishing. Saltwater fishing is a completely different story. I admit that I keep nearly everything I catch. Saltwater fish just tastes that much better to me. To tell someone that it would be nice to let the fish go comes across as rude and disrespectful. I'm talking from experience here. I had one memorable encounter that ended with the man cursing his butt off at me, which in turn made me get loud. I'm like the nicest guy in the world, but harrassing me and getting angry for keeping a few croakers and kingfish made me lose it, lol.
  15. Penn blue grease for spinning reels and superlube for casting reels. rocket fuel for bearings. I did purchase rocket fuel liquid grease, but rhe consistency seems more like thick oil than grease. I decided to put it on the worm gear on my levelwinds for salt water wreck fishing. Sticks on good, I suppose.
  16. I wipe off the excess grease and oil on the gears, shaft, frame, and side plate, then place them in a container and spray a good amount of simple green and let it sit. Afterwards, a soft bristle tooth brush and scrub away at what's left over and rinse with warm eater. i use lighter fluid for bearings.
  17. I catch horseshoe crabs quite often while fishing at times, and they are considered endangered. I also caught a sea turtle by accident while using bait. It might of been endangered, I don't know. I know they aren't fish, but still fishing related.
  18. The company is called the rocket reel company. The same guys who make the rocket fuel lubricants and liquid grease. They make their own reels for distance competitions and surf fishing.
  19. is the line roller the one on the bail wire or is it the one in the rotor?
  20. I bought a custom spool that a third party makes in the UK. It has both high capacity spool and standard capacity, both of which are 30 percent lighter than the stock abu spools. It fits perfectly on my abu 5500 cage. The lighter spool supposedly makes it even easier to cast. I also bought the abec 7 spool bearings from them. I surf fish with two to four ounces of weight so the distance is more noticeable than if one were to bass fish lighter lures. I like it so far.
  21. I enjoy trying new things and definitely don't mind the pink coloration. I always liked the brighter colors such as yellow and neon green over the moss green.
  22. There are no white bass in my area, but after reading this, I think I might do some white perch fishing this weekend. Too bad I missed the white perch tournament and fish fry last week.
  23. As tempting as it is, I hope I never get to that point. I feel like if I do it once, then it will lead to a possibility of becoming a habit. College comes to mind, where I skipped classes I didn't like and went fishing instead. I kind of regret it actually.
  24. Yep, same with me, but I always called it the fishinder rig instead of the slip sinker rig. I like to use shrimp for both bullheads and channel cats. When targeting bigger ones, I like large cutbait.
