  1. Thanks for the comments guys, I will just have to adjust to how smooth FC is... I just didn't expect such a huge transition. I will have to experiment with different FC lines now...
  2. Yeah I felt like my thumb was pretty well educated... Now it feels like an amateur with this flouro spooled on there. It's good to hear that it's not just in my head though... What are your thoughts on the brands of the line I'm using? Both the 10lbs are for cranking and sometimes Texas rigs, and my 20lb is for pitching jigs and Texas rigs in heavy cover. Are these versions of Seaguar known to backlash or are they pretty good lines?
  3. I'll definitely mess around with my brake and spool tension knob... Before flouro, I barely used any settings for braid... Now I find myself turning it up, and changing it for different lures... When I didn't have to worry about that before
  4. Hey fellas, When I first switched over to baitcasters I started off with braid just because I new most backlashes wouldn't totally damage my line, and I wouldn't have a but a new spool after a huge backlash, because the line was strong. Now that I'm super comfortable with baitcasters, I have switched to straight flouro... And I get backlashes all the time. I notice the line travels through my guides a lot smoother than braid (even smoother than new 832). I have spooled up some Seaguar Invis-X and abriaz-x on my reels and I just can't seem to cast as confident as I used to. Should I be changing my brake setting differently for Flouro? I have my lines treated with KVD Line conditioner as well. If it makes a difference I have 10lbs inviz-x on 2 reels and 20lb abraz-x on another.
  5. I got mine in the mail yesterday. My first impressions... is that the reeling in, is SUPER smooth... smoother than my Chronarch, and I'm in love with the new I-Shape handle knobs . The drag star is made of plastic, and It seems like it could break easily, but I tried to snap it and I couldn't. I have the reel paired with a new 7'1" Mh *** and it balances out pretty well. I also palm, my reels, and this reels is a little wide, but not so distracting that I'll sit here and complain about it. I'm new to the MagForce-Z cast control, so I'm not certain how well it performs compared to my Chronarch and my Abu Revo SX. I have 30lb 832 spooled on there for now, and plain to go Flourocarbon soon. I went outside to pitch it a couple of times in the yard... feels great! It doesn't outperform my other reels in pitching, but I also haven't casted it with the same lure on all three reels. So as for pitching... it feels the same, casting... I'll get back to you guys. I will be going fishing this Friday, so I'll keep you guys posted. I would say the things I'm most impressed with is the air rotation (smooth as butter) and the I-Shape handle knobs (they feel great). PS: sorry if there are typos I'm in class haha.
  6. I appreciate the advice! I don't own a boat, but I'm in a new bass club team for my university, so I usually fish off th back of people's boat. Perhaps the 7'1" is better suited. I don't really want to spend more than $100 even with the gift card. As you said the blank on the Rage is the same, and I really like the design on the Rage rod. I wish Gander offered more rod manufacturers. I expect people to sway me to the *** lol.
  7. Hey fellas, I was wondering what your thoughts were on getting a new flipping and pitching rod; mostly pitching. I have read a couple of threads and most people seem to like a 7' MH rod, but I also read an article that said pros are moving towards 8' for the extra leverage. Right now, I'm leaning towards a St. Croix Rage 7'6" MH rod... any thoughts or advice would be great. Thanks... P.S. I have a $100 Gander Mountain gift card coming in the mail, so I'm only limited to buying a rod off their site.
  8. Got1Fishing posted a gallery image in Largemouth Trophy Room
  9. I think you would be super happy with another St. Croix, and if you get a Premier it's made in the USA. I've had a Veritas and the rod tip broke on me, but I haven't had any issues with my Premier. 7' MH action rod is a great all around rod.
  10. I just pulled the trigger on one of these bad boys. I'll hopefully have it early next week, and I'll let you guys know the initial impression.
  11. Maybe he is asking about the engineering behind the BCs? I will say this though, I have a 3 y/o Revo SX and a brand new Chronarch 201e6 and it's interesting how they perform against each other with the same baits and rod lengths. I recently had the Revo completely cleaned and some parts (bearings) even replaced, all stock. And I feel as though the Revo's free spool feels better than my Chronarch (yes with the same drag settings on both), and i have a hard time admitting that because I love Shimano. Maybe this is because I haven't broken in the Chronarch in yet? Any thoughts guys?
  12. One of my personal favorites is my 5'6 Light Abu Garcia Cardinal STX combo ($80) and I have it rigged with 6lb suffix siege. I have caught more bass on this rod than my other expensive $300+ rods just because I can take it in tight quarters lol.
  13. I would agree that is a little tip heavy, but I like it that way; tt balances out the rod perfectly. I have mine paired up with a Chronarch 201e6. My LTB is my favorite rod so far. You should do a search... I found good information on this rod before I purchased it.
  14. Cool idea. UNCG has started up a bass club recently as well. So if you go to UNCG, add me on FB (Samuel Cruz) and I'll put you in the group. I would like to stay posted on this idea though if things don't work out for me
  15. Suffix Siege. For some reason I catch more bass with mono than I do with my braided setups... and I use a leader.
  16. I like to use 30# Suffix 832, sometimes with a leader.
  17. Thanks for sharing! I definitely enjoyed reading it. I believe they are correct when they say that the consumer needs to demand it more.
  18. Thanks guys, maybe the Scientific Anglers Mastery Textured GPX will do... I don't want to spend $100 for line that is going to tear skin off my hands, although I do have rough hands. I'll check out the Allen Alpha III again.
  19. Hey guys! Thank you for all your help so far. I picked up a St. Croix imperial 9' 8wt 4 piece rod off of Craigslist. It was too good of a deal to pass up. Never used, a reel was never even mounted on it, all for $150. I figured I would go with an 8wt so I could also bass fish with it, and go for larger trout. I have decided on Scientific Anglers Sharkskin GPX line. I just need help with a reel! I don't know where to begin with one. I looked at Allen reels but the only 8wt they have is over $200. I would like to spend around the $100 price range. Also do you try to find a reel that holds all of the line? The Scientific Anglers Sharkskin GPX has a total length of 100 ft.
  20. I purchased this rod recently, and fell in love with it. I bought a LTB Small Cranker, and just casted a couple of times from the bank, I could tell a big difference from my Premier. Love it. i wish I had enough money to buy every single LTB I wanted... broke college kid problems lol
  21. Haha.. wow my math. You're right it is a half foot longer. Thanks for pointing that out. Guess I'll stick with the 8'6". Thanks guys. so with the rod I've mentioned above, what kind of flies can I toss on a 5wt fast action rod? Nymphs only?
  22. Thanks for the advice! I'm aware of how long it is! I went in and held one, and it's just ridiculous how long they are. I just figured, why wouldn't a get the extra 4" for same price. I was originally planning to get a 8'6"
  23. I wish I did! The only local shop is 40+ minutes away from me. Bass Pro is the closest, and they have a ton of White River stuff. A couple of TFO rods, and some Sages
