  1. I use the improved clinch for everything. If you look at the results on Tackle Tour's Fc shootout, I believe they said the improved clinch held up better than the palomer knot, this is for .011 to .010 diameter. I feel like when i use braid the I have to use the palomer knot, because with 832 I have had the knot slip using the improved clinch knot.
  2. Hey Fellas, Just found out my college team got sponsored from Lew's, and I honestly have no idea where to start. They have so many reels in the same price range, it's hard for me to choose what I need, so I figured I would ask people with Lew's experience. I know that the next additions to my arsenal need to be a frogging combo and a shaky head combo. I was thinking about a BB1 Pro reel in 7.1:1 for my frogging setup, but is that the right one (I only want to spend up to $200)? What really makes a difference between the BB1 Pro and the Tournament Pro though? For my shay head setup, I'm going with a spinning setup, and the nicest spinning reel Lew's has is the Lew's Team Gold Carbon, does anyone have any experience with these? I'm set to use Lew's because they are giving me a discount and I'm planning on pairing them each with St. Croix rods, because they are one of our sponsors. If you guys want to know what rods I'm thinking of pairing the reels with I can post them as well. Thanks in advance!
  3. I used almost the same diameter, but I can't tell a difference. Maybe it's because the line is better quality, but even with backing the Tatsu casts smoother than my other reels spooled with invisX and abrazX, and the reel is completely spooled with the same line.
  4. rockchalk06 thanks for your help. I went with 12lb Seaguar Tatsu line and backed my reel with some cheap Berkley. I connected the lines with a alberto knot and after spooling it with the Tatsu, I can't even tell I have backing. I chose Tatsu after your small review on the forums and buddy this stuff is legit. I probably shouldn't have tried this line, cause I want all my reels to have Tatsu lol. I sprayed KVD L&L on the Tatsu after every couple of turns, let it sit overnight and then went to the yard to pitch a bit... there is no memory period. I've even casted it out and there is still no memory on this line. I can't wait to go out and fish this line with my St. Croix LTB to see how sensitive it is compared to the Invis-x I had spooled on there before.
  5. I feel as though most people use backing to save money on their expensive FC, so to use braid (which is more expensive than mono) is counterintuitive. This is besides the point of the benefits...
  6. I think these guys have answered your question!
  7. These guys have good comments. If he means during a cast, maybe you could have toouch Lin spooled, or might not har the brake system up enough. Maybe it's a hair too low.
  8. I'm currently trying to decide which bait I like better between the RI Sweet Beaver and the MB D Bomb, I have caught more fish on the RI, but I haven't had the same conditions to try out the MBs. I will say that I like the feel and looks of the MBs better than the RIs.
  9. Basically he just covered it. If you read some articles, they say most people prefer a 7'6" or 7'8" just because there's more leverage. I use an *** 7'1" MH and I love it. I am usually throwing 3/8oz and sometimes the occasional 1/2oz when it's really deep water, and my rod never seems to be under stress. BTW it's a great rod for the price point.
  10. Craws and Creatures Sunny: green pumpkin, watermelon red flake, or pumpkin. Cloudy: pumpkin, black red flake, black and blue, or black blue flake. Worms Sunny: watermelon red flake, purple Cloudy: purple Crankbait Anything natural, mostly shad or bluegill
  11. Thanks guys, you've been very helpful! Tatsu comes in on Monday; I can't wait to test this line.
  12. Thanks for the ideas. So if I want to spool up my Chronarch 200E6 with 8lb Trilene Xl (.11) and 12lb Tatsu (.11) I should be ok? Thanks for the quick replies lol I mentally prefer to spool the entire thing, but there's no way I can afford it haha. #brokecollegeprobz
  13. Hey guys, I read that it doesn't matter what backing you use for your FC as long as it's the same in diameter? This is my first time doing this, and I want to get it right. I'm going to purchase 12lb Tatsu for cranking purposes, and would like to know what you guys use for backing? Is it always mono? Should I only put enough FC (tatsu) to use, and fill the rest with the backing? I usually put the entire spool of FC on, but I'm in college so I want my Tatsu to last me as much as possible. I also was wondering if backing affects the casting in anyway?
  14. There is already another thread on the Tatula reels somewhere. I bought one a couple of weeks ago and I love it for the price. I'm in college and own a Chronarch, Tatula, and Revo SX. I wish I could afford all Chronarch or just nicer reels altogether, but i can't afford it now. I will say I love the Tatula much more than my Revo SX, and it's close to performing like the Chronarch. The things I'm most impressed with are: - Air Rotation: it just feels so smooth, I'm in love with it. - I-Shape Handle Knobs: it just feels nice in your hand, and feels like it gives you more leverage (whether it actually does who knows) I like the Magforce-Z Cast Control more than what's on my Revo SX, but not more than what's on the Chronarch. Yes they are two different brake systems, but I'm just being broad here.
  15. I've been hearing a lot of people say Sunline Sniper over Invis-x. Can anyone tell me how it is better? I'm dying to try it, but as a college student I just can't afford to switch all my Invis-x and Abraiz-x lines lol
  16. Glad you caught the line before you lost your lure. Coming from using straight braid and leaders to straight FC I have always been so aware of abrasion on my lines. The trade off is so great though.
  17. I know a few guys have have Siebert Outdoor jigs.. and although I've only used their arky head jigs, I love these jigs more than SK jigs. The way they stand up and are easy to skip win in my book. I'll have to check out northstar
  18. Go to their site guys... I just saw quite a few new braids they have to offer. I'm interested in their 832 lead core one as well.
  19. I'm actually in my college's bass fishing team. We just started up new this semester... So I'm actually fishing quite a bit, I was wanted to do a little research on finding out more about FC, because I've always been a braid kind of guy. I'm pleases with the FC I have now, but if Sniper FC Sniper is better and about the same price I'll be changing out my spools in the near future. I just want to make sure I'm not blowing my money on something that will still have line memory, and act the same way.
  20. Hey fellas, I started a thread a while back, and I asked for advice on straight FC on my BCs. I went from braid with leaders to FC and I loved it, but kept having backlashes. After a few weeks of fishing straight FC, I love it... but I would like some advice on how lines. Currently I have 2 spools of 10lb Seaguar Invisx 10lb, and 1 spool of 20lb abraizx. I put on KVD L&L the minute I spooled them up on my BCs. I've noticed a big difference with invisix and abraizx compared to the red label. red label just sucks in my opinion. With the 10lb spools, I noticed that the length of line I'm generally using does not have memory. If I cast farther than what line I'm normally using I see some memory, but it quickly loses it. With the 20lb line, it acts the same, but it takes a little longer to get rid of the memory, I'm assuming it's because the line just has a thicker diameter. I've been looking at Tatsu, and Sunline Shooter, because people almost exclusively have good things to say about them. Is it worth the money? I'm not asking for brand loyalty, but I'm asking for the advantages of using those lines. For almost double the price of what I'm using, can I expect a FC line that won't have memory at all, that casts, better, and be stronger? I'm in college, so $35-40 for lines is pretty expensive. I'm happy with what I'm using, but if paying double the money will eliminate those little annoyances, I would slowly convert to more expensive line. Thanks guys.
  21. All I'm saying is I don't mind paying even $100 to have a $250 dollar rod replaced. I'm great flu for what St. Croix did. You just can't please everybody I guess. Even if it is user error, they are doing you the favor of giving you a new one for a small price, seems to me the least you could do is pay the shipping there and back... Beats having to buy a new rod.
  22. I feel like I am on board with what most guys are saying. I have reel loyalty, and rod loyalty to St. Croix, but how can you have true loyalty to a company if you don't try what everyone else has to offer. If you never go out and "test the waters" you'll never know.
  23. Hey fellas, Just wanted to share my experience with St. Croix with you guys... I own a TBC72MM which is a Legend Tournament Bass Small Cranker... While I was cranking a KVD crankbait, the first line guide on my rod, just fell off... it came loose and slide down the line... I called St. Croix up, explained the issue, they said they would take a look at it and that the problem sounded like it would be covered under warranty. Sent it in and got a call from a service representative, and he told me he apologized for the inconvenience, and that that shouldn't have happened, and it would be covered by the warranty. He was very polite, and encouraged me to reach out to them about getting my schools bass fishing team sponsored by them. He also offered me another discount valid for 30 days on any Legend series rod the inconvenience. Got my rod in the mail today, BRAND NEW ROD!!! I couldn't believe my eyes... needless to say, I think they have established my loyalty as a customer.
  24. I love the way straight FC casts... If I can get it to cast right that is. Went out of the water today... I really like the 10lb Invis-x, but the 20lb abriaz-x had some memory... Hopefully the line will get better with use.
