Best Shaky Head worm???
Make sure you use the "Original" Trick Worm. The "Super Salt Added" do not stand up as well as the no salt original. For the deeper summer bite, I like the Maximus worm on a Buckeye Magnum Goby Sled jig head.

What Should Be My Next Top Water Lure?
1/4 oz Yellow Magic Popper - I've worn the paint off of my Bone colored one & probably changed the hooks five times - still catches fish.

Need A Reel For Swimbaits
All of the above are excellent choices. I am a big Lew's fan & the Super Duty Speed Spool & the BB2 Wide are great swimbait reels - Both under $180.00.

Truth! In stained water I may use straight 20# braid with a 6# diameter.

Jigs
Very good tips here & +2 on the MegaStrike scent. Also, click on the sponsor link on the right for Siebert Outdoors. IMO the best jigs for the money out there.

Lew's reels
Go to jet.com. Use discount code TRIPLE15, agree to pay by debit card & you get a Lews LFS Speed Spool for $72 shipped. Buy something else, they both get cheaper. They have most brands available if you don't want Lews. My new favorite site for fishing gear.

Favorite weedless alternatives for Ned rigging?
There are some sellers on the auction site that make 1/8 oz swing head jigs with a 1/0 EWG hook. Works well with the TRD.

Beaver Style Hook...what's your preference...
I think he means & I agree, to get a good hook set, the gap between the hook shank & the bait needs to be wider than the thickness of the bait. To answer your question, I like a swing head jig in 4/0 or 5/0 - depending on the bait size. That way I can flip, pitch or cast & slow-roll it on the bottom.

newbie in central texas
Give Belton Lake a try. I think the LMB record there is 13 lbs. There are also smallmouth in there.

Soft Plastic Swimbait Basics
They also make a weedless head that is awesome.

Boat shoes
I am a fan of Zeko's. Comfortable, light & dry quickly. Good enough that I wear them casually also. https://www.zekoshoes.com/

Braided line and using a sharpie... I don't get it
I posted this tip in another thread, but what I do is thread your braid thru a cheap, 1/2 oz sinker. Hold the end of the line & drop the sinker into a jar of your favorite scented dye - I use Spike-It Garlic Black. Pull through the sinker however much you need. Now you have stealth & scent. You can also pull the sinker out, pull a few inches of braid thru, then drop it back in for the camo effect.

Best casting reel for under 100$
Good price! The Mettle is an exceptional value for the money. IMO the Lew's is just smoother in it's overall operation.

Chatter Fluke!
Lake Fork is public. If you can, hire a guide your first few trips to learn the lake & the boat lanes.

Hook Size? 8" Lizard
I started cutting a small hook slot in my thicker soft plastics like some swimbaits. It has increased my hook up % and baits seem to last a little longer.
