2000-2500 lbs. would be a good limit. My Blazer is rated for 6000 lbs., but I wouldn't want to pull anything more than 4000.

The Tour KVD rods are crankbait specific rods. I wouldn't use the 7' M for anything more than medium (< 10 FOW) crankbaits. I wouldn't use the 7' MH for anything other than deep (> 12 FOW) crankbaits. Look at the lure weight ratings for the rods and make your decision based on those.

I use the same stuff and I have also found the same thing. I thought I was the only one. I recently bought a spool of Trilene 100% to use for leaders when I'm fishing in rocks and such. You're definitely not the only one. I've spent my last three nights on the water retying every 10-15 casts. That Hybrid has been replaced with CXX 8 lb.

The OBX are becoming a little more crime ridden. Over the last 10 years, I've noticed a steady upswing in vandalism, drugs, etc. I don't even like to cross the causeway onto Roanoke Island after dark. There are some areas in Manteo that are downright dangerous. It is still a safe place, but the problems of the mainland are slowly spreading to the islands.

Sounds like you're blaming CXX for something that wasn't it's fault. Line breakage that far into the spool indicates a kink or weak spot. You won't find a stronger, more abrasion resistant line than CXX. While I haven't used Hybrid in those diameters, I have been using the 12 lb. all summer on a deep crankbait situation. I've found it to be very susceptible to abrasion and rocks.

I don't know. I'll find out once I get the reel and start weighing parts.

If you're a novice user, activate four brake collars in an X pattern. Set the spool tension in the manner Dan. suggested. If you're proficient with casting reels, activate two brake collars and play with the spool tension until you're not getting a backlash at the beginning of the cast.
