  1. Look around, there are a ton of topics concerning crankbait rod selection.
  2. The Aldebaran is offered in 5.8:1 in Japan. I've been thinking about seeing what it would take to get a set of those gears. The only bad thing is that it would mean buying another Core 50.
  3. Good fish Daniel!
  4. Fished the wildcat tourney on Boone Lake tonight. And what a night it was. For most of the night, it seemed like I could do no wrong. Any decision I made was the right one. Put the first keeper in the boat around 8:30 on a crank. Good fat 16" LMB. Kept going down the bank, decided to put the crank down and throw the jig for a while. Third cast, caught this pig. First fish on the new Core 50. Spent a little more time in there, no more bites, so we moved. Went back to a creek we had hit before dark, I laid the jig down and picked up the crankbait again. Bam, keeper LMB. Stayed in the creek for about 45 minutes, nothing else working, so head to a spot my partner had done well on in the past. Pull up to the first dock, lay down the crank and throw the jig. Second cast, bam! Laid the hammer on a good keeper LMB. Work another 50 yards down the bluff, hammer a 14 3/4" smallie (gotta be 15 to keep). After that my jig bite died and they didn't want the crank either. We ran up the Holston side and tried a few different places. Went to a spot where I'd gotten a couple of bites two weeks ago, I didn't get anything, but my partner got a keeper about 5 minutes after pulling up. We had one fish that barely measured, so we needed to cull him. Went point hopping over the last hour, just couldn't get the fish we needed to cull that 15 incher. Get back to the weigh-in, I figure we've got 8 or 9 lbs. Ended up with 10-6. Packed up our gear and then went back to get the results. We got announced in 4th place, got the money, then had it snatched away. They had missed a 10-8 bag on the sheet. So we finished in 5th place. Not a bad night considering my last trip over there. Took 17 and change to win, there were only five sacks over 10, so I gotta feel good about that.
  5. Spent most of the night using the reel to throw a jig. Took a bit of time to adjust, it is quite a bit more free than the Curado. Throws a 1/4 oz. jig better than the Curado as well. First fish on the reel? A 3 lb. smallie.
  6. FWIW, it is WAAS. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wide_Area_Augmentation_System
  7. I don't know if two arms from Pittsburgh will help, but we got 'em. :-/ Hope the offense didn't blow their load early this week. Consecutive 10+ run outtings usually means they'll have at least a week of no scoring. Regardless, I'm glad to see them playing some good ball.
  8. Something between a dependable boat and a money pit.
  9. I can say without reservation that this reel is friggin sick.
  10. Replacing the spool bearings is an easy job. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1234086142
  11. Go to WalMart and buy the cheapest bulk spool they have. Berkley Big Game is good backing. The question is, which weighs more. 50 yards of 25 lb. Big Game or 100 yards of 10 lb. Big Game. I've been using Cajun line as backing. The red line acts as a good indicator.

Or just use these Cabela's Advance Anglers rod covers w/ hook sleeve Those don't look to have much protective value at all. They protect as well as any other rod sock.
  13. It holds about 60 yards of 15. lb Stren flourocarbon.
  14. By Matt Bowen, National Football Post 3 hours, 41 minutes ago The idea that Michael Vick(notes) could land in Seattle has been mentioned to me by multiple league sources over the past couple of days. From what I've heard, new Seattle Seahawks head coach Jim Mora had a great relationship with Vick while the two were in Atlanta despite the negative reports circulating through the rumor mill right now and that he actually cares about the former Falcon and his future. I've also been told that, from a public relations standpoint, Seattle would offer Vick some protection from the media since it isn't a city that draws the kind of overwhelming national attention as a Dallas or a Pittsburgh. Time to throw the Seahawks into the ring for Vick's services? Today, Vick said he's getting close to signing with a team, so we should soon know where this story leads. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AkUiF5VPma3zj60rpYK5NZxDubYF?slug=ys-nfpvickseattle073009&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
  15. CUC-72MH or CUC-X72MH? I had a CUC-68MH and it was a great rod, miss it every now and then. Been thinking about getting a CUC-X72MH, but I'm pretty rod poor.
  16. Quantum Tour KVD TKVD745M 7'4 MH 3/8-1 oz. or Kistler Argon AFCB72C 7'2 MH 1/8-3/4 oz.
  17. Mettler AE200 analytical balance, certified twice per year.
