  1. Braid (apparently) weighs less = lighter spool = easier start up. My concern is the weighing less part. Braid seems to soak up water like a paper towel so I would think that it would weigh more then mono/fluoro when it gets soaked with water.
  2. Torque has nothing to do with the extra bearing there. It just allows the gears to stay in precise alignment while reeling, even if a lot of force it being put on it. Torque has only to do with the handle length and the amount of pressure the person winding is putting on the handle (in the circular motion). HEG is still in the reels. HEG is just precison cut gears + larger drive gear. The claim of more power is just a sales gimmick. Power can not be gained from adding another bearing to the pinion gear. That has solely to do with the handle length and the person using the reel. It does allow for more power more though. There was a video of someone reeling in a car on YT with a spinning reel without x-ship vs spinning reel with x-ship, and the reel w/out x-ship started making noises and grinding, but the reel with x-ship could handle the pressure because the pinion was kept in alignment. Micro module concerns me because I read somewhere that in RC cars/trucks, the gears with more, smaller teeth tend to break more than gears with less, larger teeth. MM will be smoother, but I am concerned when it comes to longevity. MM gears would probably strip very easily..
  3. Zombie was going to, but they lost a lot of money and almost went out of business so they had to postpone it. That's what I heard at least. Their FB said they had some previous connections w/ pure fishing or something like that.. Not sure what that means though.
  4. Read these reviews too: http://www.amazon.com/Avoid-Huge-Ships-John-Trimmer/product-reviews/0870334336/ref=lmf_16_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1
  5. Not quite. Something better
  6. Gander Mtn had the ci4+ for $210 around christmas time.. If you buy from other people, you can get a NIB ci4+ for under $200. Most people sell stuff for 55-70% of retail price..
  7. The loose type R was probably a lemon.. There is no reason that the type R could be looser than the standard cause there are no differences between the reels actual build, except the drag configuration is a bit different on the type-r. The price tag isn't too bad on the core/ci4+ if you wait for a nice deal to come around. You can get a ci4+ for $180, and a core for about $270.
  8. I think you mean TWO clearanced chronarchs vs a new curado
  9. Academy sports and bass pro both had the curado 200e/50e for $99 when they were discontinued and on clearance.. I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen again. I will be getting a few when it happens.
  10. The problem with lews is that all of their reels use the same platform/frame. For the consumers, there is not much incentive to jump up to the higher end reels from a TP because they are basically the same thing. If shimano were to do this, the shimano citica/curado frame would be used in the core, met, or antares.
  11. Can you anodize (aluminum) handles?
  12. Livewellhero, you obviously missed the point I was trying to make.. I was not calling you out on your grammar.. I was calling you out for calling him a hypocrite for something that you did yourself. I was simply proving that you called him out for something you do yourself. The fact is that we all make mistakes in grammar/spelling and it is no big deal.. Your post didn't offend anyone, it was just unnecessary and uncalled for.
  13. Cabela's updated their site, and the reels engineered by daiwa do NOT have mag z.. They must have made a mistake.
  14. You called out someone else for their spelling/grammar who called someone else out for the same, and then called them hypocritcal.. Well, I just did a quick search of your username, and I found quite a few errors that YOU made in your posts: "Out of warranty so ended up busting tip" should be a comma after warranty. "you a new rod shipped, eventually" should be no comma after shipped. "Mainly just the handle and knobs" no period at the end of this sentence. "to get a handle to fit a T3 Ballistic" again, no period at the end of the sentence. "for most likely a Lexa" again, no period at the end. I am not specifically calling you out for your grammar/spelling, but for the way you called someone out, then called him a hypocrite. That doesn't fly here. Moral is that no one is perfect, and this is a fishing board, not a spelling board. Everyone will make mistakes, and it is not a big deal because this is for learning about fishing. We are not learning how to type essays here.
  15. You will find that winding with your left hand on a baitcaster is much different that on a spinning reel. Most people think that their left hand is strong enough/used to it enough after using a lefty spinning reel to jump to a left casting reel. This is not the case...at all. However, your left hand will get used to it in about a month. On a spinning rod, the reel balances out the rod in your hands, so you don't have to hold the reel down because it just hangs down while you use it. This lets your right hand facilitate your left hand in winding. This is not noticeable, but you will understand what I mean when you use a lefty casting reel. You will feel much different while winding a lefty casting reel. With a lefty casting setup, you have to hold the reel face up which puts more stress on your right hand. Your left hand will get use to winding a lefty baitcaster very quickly; probably about a month. Your right hand will be the one that feels uncomfortable. You will not know how to palm a reel until probably 1.5 months in because you will be trying to find the comfortable way to hold it. Some people will say that if you aren't comfortable with a lefty casting reel at first, you should just get a righty instead, but I have to disagree. Lefty is definitely the way to go and you will get used to and it will feel perfectly normal. Also, you will probably feels sore in your wrist for the first few trips unless you are fishing a really light set up, say under 10 oz. Your right thumb might feel sore too from pressing the thumb bar down repeatedly throughout a long fishing trip. It is not major or anything, just letting you know what may happen. I would say go for the lefty reel, you will find it is very convenient to not have to switch hands. It will feel weird for the first month or so, but it is winter right now so you have time. I recommend that you try and cast a little bit everyday out at a pond or in the yard. It will feel more comfortable each time out. Another great way is to take your reel off the rod, tape the line down (around the spool) so it isn't loose on the spool, and wind it while watching TV or ride in the car or whatever. Good luck
  16. It is just marketing BS. In the fishing world, weaker but lighter > strong but heavy. Some people just buy reels based on the numbers that are in the statistics. That is why companies like Pinnacle and Abu go for the lightest reel possible, even though they are basically fragile compared to 7-8 oz shimano/daiwa reels, and won't last nearly as long. That is why I won't buy Pinnacle or Abu too. Also, the curado may or may not have a SOLID build comparable to certain reels we may have seen shimano make in the past, which IMO is much, much better than this ci4+ material......... You will see what I mean when it gets leaked..
  17. The greenies were awesome reels. I don't know how they are so good, but they can outfish most reels on the market today. I have never used a reel that can cast a 3/4 oz rattletrap as far as the old greenie. I can just about spool it on a cast.
  18. I would take shimano over lew's every single day of the week. Lew's was a bad experience 3 times over, and I will not go down that path ever again. Shimano has been very good to me, and that is why I am a shimano fan. I love daiwa as well. Some of you are going to think "he is just a shimano fan club member who has never tried other reels" but that is not the case. I have tried abu, lews, daiwa, shimano, pflueger, and pinnacle, and the only two that impressed me were Daiwa and shimano. Pinnacle was so far below the quality I hoped, and I will never buy from them again (optimus xi-hs). If you are looking to try a shimano reel, the curado G will be on sale for around $75, and the chronarch E for 99. I would go for the E or an older shimano like the D series, which IMO were the best.
  19. NRX or Dobyns Champion extreme or megabass pagani Metanium Xg/Hg or Exsence DC or new 2014 conquest 101
  20. I can't stand it any longer.. I have to buy an old curado. I love the work horse qualities of them..
  21. You don't have to buy expensive metered, multicolored JDM braid when you can just buy camo sufix 832. Great line. In fact, academy was selling the 150 yard packs for $6.50 each not too long ago at my local store. I picked up a few.
