  1. It is worth a try to fix. It could be a simple fix, so I wouldn't send it in yet. It very well could be, but that doesn't answer why he isn't having the problems with spool out.
  2. I think it is this piece: The anti-reverse ratchet. If you possibly reinstalled this piece the wrong way, it will cause your reel to randomly lock up with what I believe is called the "clutch pawl". This will also answer the button sticking problem you have mentioned in another thread. If this is the case, the clutch springs are likely broken and bent out of shape. Open up the reel and leave the drag stack on and turn the drive shaft and see what happens. How often does the reel catch on it? Once every 1/6 revolution? Once every single revolution of the handle? Once every 2ish revolutions? If it is once every 1/6 turn, it will probably be part of the yoke, clutch cam, or pinion gear. If it is once every turn, we can pretty much confirm that it is something in the drag stack. If it is every 2 or so, it is most likely the level wind assembly. If it is just randomly happening, then it could be a shot bearing locking up, or maybe the anti-reverse bearing is shot.
  3. I just use braid and if the knot annoys you then don't reel the knot in through the guides. Just leave it out when casting.
  4. Wait till this spring when the new curado is released and the "old" chronarchs go on sale for 50% off at TW and probably Academy. I am planning on buying 3 or 4 51e's
  5. The difference between using braid and mono is almost not noticeable.. Just a confidence thing I guess.
  6. First off, the H20 mettle casts just as nicely and far as the citica g7, and it even has a lifetime warranty.. Some people even prefer the mettle to the citica. I don't see how that is an upgrade. The citica is an upgrade in PRICE if that is what your after, but not so much in performance. For $120 you could get a tatula or daiwa ballistic on sale which is far superior in my book to the citica and mettle reels. Out of the options you have, I would go with the option of getting a crank rod and upgraded spinning rod. Having a reel sitting around is useless so I think putting it to use would be the best option.
  7. +1. I have always done this, and it works great. The difference between mono and braid for backing is small, but if you see a bin full of old line, pull some braid out because it a bit lighter.
  8. I was exaggerating in the post I made in the previous page, but still, it is very convenient to be able to reel immediately after casting.
  9. Wasted time as well.. Let's say there was a bass cruising along the shoreline 20 feet away, and you try to make an accurate cast just past him and a few feet in front of the path he is swimming, but the wind suddenly blows your lure 10 feet to one side. The obvious thing to do is cautiously and carefully reel in the line, but very quickly so you can get another shot at catching the cruiser. If you had a lefty reel, (this is for a right handed person by the way) you could reel up and immediately depress the thumb bar and throw your lure out to him again, but if you had a righty reel, you would have to reel up, switch hands (around .5 seconds for most people I am guessing), then cast, and again switch hands (.5 seconds).. That is 1 second (maybe more) that is wasted. Another situation is casting to the bank with a buzzbait or spinnerbait or something like that where a constant retrieve works great. The distance to the shore is 10 feet (from the boat) and you are making quick casts and burning it back. With a righty reel, every cast is wasting about 1 second of your life that you could spend fishing. If you made 1000 casts, well, there goes 1000 seconds. Obviously I am exaggerating my point right there, but still it is quite tedious in my opinion to switch hands. With a lefty reel in this situation, you could cast probably 10% more times in the same amount of time due to not needing to switch hands! That is an estimate; it could be more. There are many more situations like this that I am sure you can think of. Anyone who wants to switch hands but just doesn't feel comfortable: Don't downgrade yourself. You can do anything realistic thing if you set your mind to it and if you are determined. Get out there and start casting and it will feel normal in no time. It will be well worth it in the end, when you can cast quicker. Also, you will have less pains at the end of the day from not needing to switch hands twice every cast. I have been using leftys for a long time now, and I am glad I made the choice back when.
  10. If you stick with it, lefty reels will feel just as natural in your hand. Takes about 2 months. The first week of use, you will get good at winding lefty, and after that your comfort with the reel in your right hand will grow. It will feel great after a while.
  11. I don't see where you are getting this from.. I didn't say ANYWHERE that the reels won't perform, I simply said that they will be a rehash of Pure fishing's other reels. Abu and Lew's, along with pure fishing's other brands, make fine reels, but I am simply not interested in them. I prefer Daiwa and Shimano myself. I just don't understand this craze over a reel that most of us have practically used already since it will be very similar to the Abu revo stx and Lew's TP. I don't see what new technology they could put in this reel since this is the first reel duckett has made, and there is nothing to learn from for them. It obviously will have the dual braking (most likely the exact kind we have seen in the TP and STX with 4/6 pins for centrifugal, and 5 magnets on sideplate adjusted externally by dial), carbon sideplates, aluminum or possibly carbon/graphite composite frame (like pinnacle has done), and ceramic bearings which is a pretty cool feature. I don't care if it is made in Korea, Japan, or China.. Pure fishing makes their reels in Korea, and they are not bad reels.. Notice how I didn't put that part in caps. *throws mic out window*
  12. Last posts by Duckett fishing on facebook: "dual braking system...magnetic..centrifugal" "thanks for the comments so far. to answer some of the questions. yes on the ceramics, its a low profile reel. made a slighter wider spool for added cast ability. made in Korea. the abu lews comment is pretty close. you have to remember that our president was with abu for a long period of time and we also like lews for their ease of use out of the box. very light, in and around 5.5 ounces. yes on all 3 speeds and yes on the lefties. we are confident on our internals and breaking system. still not sure on the cosmetics. thanks everyone for your feedback so far and thank you for your support." "looking at $249 on the high end and $159 on the mid range." "quick question for the made in US comment. who makes reels in the USA?" (in response to someone asking if they will be made in USA, obviously they won't be) JUST TO CLARIFY, I HAVE NO PREFERENCE OF WHETHER IT IS MADE IN US OR NOT, THIS QUESTION WAS ASKED BY SOMEONE ON FACEBOOK, NOT ME. I WAS JUST PUTTING MORE INFO OUT THERE. What I am hearing is that it will be ANOTHER PURE FISHING REHASH REEL made in Korea.. I am wondering how this reel weighs 5.5 oz?!?
  13. I am wondering what shimano is going to do with the DC reels in the USDM... Only one DC reel right now and it is $50 more than the antares hg, a reel with all of the new features shimano has (except DC of course). I think they should bring over the exsence DC, which has the same body as the chrony d5/7, and DC of course! It is also right around the 100 size... Only problem is that it would be priced at around $450..
  14. You're 110% right. When daiwa released the tatula, a reel that had TONS of hype and is now quickly gaining popularity, I immediately thought "can't wait to see how shimano answers this". Well now there is a new curado to be released sometime next year (so I've heard) which is supposed to be raised in price (so Shimano can build it nicer, closer to d/e series) to $180, and hopefully will have some cool new features like CI4 sideplates or a different style of the classic VBS system.
  15. I just don't see a reason to try Hammer rods when they have no reputation. Stick with what works; you know the old saying: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If I were you, I would spend the money on a proven rod that will perform very nicely such as the daiwa rods, dobyns rods, shimano rods, 13 rods, powell, etc. Same goes for duckett reels. I don't have enough money to spend on fishing where I can buy offbrand reels just to give them a shot. I stick with what works and is proven. I made the mistake of trying a new brand twice last year, and I was not impressed with either.. Daiwa and shimano all the way. (not trying to be a "fanboy", just saying what I prefer)
  16. Baitcasting: (metanium) Exsence DC, tatula 103 (if it is out by then) Spinning: shimano twinpower 2500s, shimano complex
  17. If you go to colgardsports.com, they have the daiwa tatula rod on sale for $110. That is $40 off on a rod that is getting great reviews, and is very lighweight. I would say this is your best bet.
  18. I asked a guy on the 13 staff and he told me it will use centrifugal braking. That leaves 2 options: 1. internally adjustable 2. externally adjustable The reel is obviously internally adjustable since the sideplate had nothing on it, which leads to a few more options. 1a. okuma style with the dial on the spool 1b. shimano vbs style with non spring loaded brakes 1c. Abu/Lews/Pflueger style with spring loaded brakes 1d. something new that is centrifugal, and adjustable.. I am just guessing it is Okuma style. Looks a good bit like helios too.
  19. Wish they would just bring back the chronarch d5/7.. They didn't have a long enough run. *wipes tear*
  20. Zombie reels were postponed, I believe, due to lack of money to continue. The *** reels will likely be a pretty nice reel that uses a copy of okuma's centrifugal force braking system.
  21. I heard rumors that the Core and Chronarch 200e will be discontinued due to a new curado moving in. Supposed to be released by next Classic show. I don't know about you all, but I can't wait for the TW 50% chronarch sale! I might just buy 3-4 of em!
  22. *** is going to release low profile baitcasters, along with Zombie, and now Duckett... This won't turn out well.
  23. I would put the t3b on the jig rod for faster line per turn, the tatula on the MHM crank rod for long distance casting, keep the e6 on the MM crank rod because chronarch/curados seem to be great for square bills, and then put the SX on a spinnerbait/rattletrap rod (MH) with 30lb braid.
  24. Someone on another forum found a deal on the daiwa tatula rod for around $110. I believe the website was called colgardsports.com Looks like a sweet rod, and has been getting great reviews. People have even compared it to the steez rods. I would vote to get the *** or tatula.
