Thought I Caught My Biggest Bass Ever On A Jig, But It Was A Catfish (Picture)
Man, I was fishing for Crappie with the off chance of bagging a Bass when this sucker took the jig. I was thinking I caught my biggest bass ever until this ugly mug surfaced.

Craziest Thing That Happened To You While Fishing.
Was fishing off my kayak a few weeks ago, and I see what I thought was a Radio Control boat heading at me then turning away, then circling me, then heading towards me and turning away again. I was getting angry since I assumed someone on shore was messing with me, then finally realized it was 2 Beavers and I was pretty close to their lodge. When they were doing that tail slap thing, I though someone was throwing huge rocks in the lake or something. I had no idea up until that time there were Beavers in that area (Princeton NJ). Managed to get a few pics of the event. Not really that crazy, but when I thought it was a R/C Boat I thought I was going to go crazy.

Weirdest Thing You've Reeled In
When I was a kid I reeled in what I thought was a fish skull and brought it home. Showed it to my fisherman Uncle a few months later and he pointed out that it was actually a section of an animal's vertebral column. Looked to be from a large dog or something.

Can Cops Ask You For Your Fishing License?
Here in NJ if I have a knife (Fixed 5 inch maximum blade length) on my belt I must have proof it is a tool for an activity I am either doing at the moment or on the way to or from. So if a cop sees me get out of my car with a knife on my belt he can check if I have a fishing license and actually on the way to a fishing spot, actually fishing, or on the way home from fishing. If I stop along the way and go into a store, I'm supposed to remove the knife from my belt.

Question Regarding Using Slip Bobber & Jig For Crappie
Hey, thanks for the advice. Finally went fishing today with some jigs w/o bobber and caught my first Crappie. Tail looked a little beat up though, must have been in a fight or something.

Looking Into Getting A Kayak
Hi, I just started kayak fishing this summer and to be honest you really really really should go to some stores and sit in them and try out the seat. As others have said I think the seat is one of the most if not THE most important thing to consider. I bought the Ascend FS10 from Bass Pro Shops, and the seat it comes with is so comfortable that I have actually spent 12 hours on the water in comfort. It costs 499.00 but look at it this way...you will have this thing for a lot of years and will love the freedom it gives you to fish otherwise inaccessible places. **edit** I see you are in Erie, PA. I checked online and there is a Dick's Sporting Goods there you can check out. The one by me here in NJ has a pretty big selection of kayaks.

Question Regarding Using Slip Bobber & Jig For Crappie
Hello, I am going to try a Slip Bobber with Jig for Crappie this weekend. I have never used one but have watched a few videos and it seems pretty clear how to set it up. My question though is: If I am doing a slow retrieve, won't the line and jig be pulled up to the bobber and not stay at my set depth ? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks

My New Best Pickerel
Very nice, congrats. Did you get an exact measurement ? 24" is the minimum for the NJ Skillful Angler catch and release award for Chain Pickeral.

Low Drag
I use 2lb. test line and ultralight gear when targeting Sunfish (Makes it real exciting when a larger type of fish takes the lure though !!)

My Personal Best Bluegill Catch
Received my state award for catch and release of a Sunfish over 9 inches long. Caught it on 2 lb. test line and a Rapala Original Floating Minnow F03 1-1/2 "

Hi, I go out every weekend unless it is raining. I transport using Malone Downloader Kayak Carrier ( $ 160.00) using the stock crossbars. Carry it on my shoulder from the car to the water. I also built a PVC cart for longer distances (parts cost around 40 bucks). Link for the kayak cart plans I used: http://palmettokayakfishing.blogspot.com/2011/04/diy-bulletproof-kayak-cart-build.html?m=1

I love it, but to be honest I have never fished out of any other kayak. I find the seat comfortable for all day fishing, and the good thing is it is actually a miniature padded lawn chair that comes out of the kayak. You can just un-latch it and take it ashore if you would like to sit a few inches off the ground. I drove out to Bass Pro Shops to buy mine so I didn't have to pay for any shipping, and I probably sat in about 6 different makes to test the seating. Please feel free to ask me any other questions about it, like I said I think it is a great fishing kayak.

What Is Considered A "big" Bluegill?
The New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife recognizes Bluegills (any Sunfish species) over 1 pound or at least 9 inches long as large enough to have tested the angler's skill and be worthy of recognition. The largest I have ever caught was 9 and a half inches long.
