  1. anything and everything - I make the wire frames and tied jigs myself. Plastics I buy or friends who make what I like I buy from them.
  2. Sweet!! Enjoy!!
  3. Both - pour all my own jigs, paint, tie but crankbaits and plastics nope I buy from others who make them or trade for them.
  4. You're on your way!! They look great!!
  5. Most of the jigs in Billys book were bear hair, I've read that book a couple hundred times. Hair jigs work! When others put them down some of us kept using them cause they worked. I also use dyed arctic fox and coyote tails for tying them it's a really nice hair for jigs. And yeah it's getting hard to find really good maribou!!

That looks great!! probably look even better with a whole load poured up!! Is that going to take a specific hook or can you use any hooks in it??

Use a Black Pearl jig hook you wouldn't have to worry about that.
  8. LOL!! a good base is needed for the hair. Just takes practice and more practice. This is one of my panfish jigs 1/32 oz football head with new penny powder paint and a clear coat with florescent orange glitter with grizzly bear
  9. Yeah the fly tying bug happened to me right after I moved to Vermont for my Job and took over all other fishing!! It's now a part of my fishing, I'm back making and powdering jig heads, and cutting bunny and every other type of fur I can get!! And yeah I love that I can just grab a bunch of my stuff and go and if I lose it I can make many more!!
  10. Everything is pretty bare here to! Luckily I have a stash. So glad I was taught the tackle making bug!!! I can pour more jigs but I have enough poured and painted and twice as many unpainted!! Over 12000 jig hooks and plenty of lead to pour more if needed. Lot's of tin split shot as lead ones are illegal here and if I have to I'll go Old School Kid and go to the hardware store and get some big hex nuts to use as sinkers!! or use 1/2 oz. ones. I know enough folks who pour plastics that I would be okay there too!! Whoever thought hoarding would be a good thing!!!

Yes they only made them in bronze and I think they're only size 1/0 and 3/0 but I'll check the mold to be sure!! Thanks!!
  14. I don't have a dedicated tackle making room or area so I have to put things away when done!! I have bins of materials, box's of spinner making stuff, molds, melters and a bind of powder paint!! I have large zip bags of feathers and furs hanging in my closet!! Nope no problem here!!! This is just some of them!!
  15. Been making and using them for years! It's one of those have to have lures!!
  16. Have a bunch of them and use them! They are fun but yeah the Stigma of the TV infomercial hurt them. I've caught just about everything on them and they are great for fishing in areas of downed wood. Just have to make sure to give some slack line so they work right!!

Checked with them all!! They all have the uncrimped ones. Might have to make up some wire pieces and wrap them and see if that works! But I'll keep looking!! Thanks All!!
  18. Now that Do-It has discontinued the Eagle Claw 1623CR hook and seems so has everyone else is there any substitute out there?? Or get the regular 1623's and do some kind of wire wrap so the hook won't spin in the lead?? And yes I've tried Ebay!
  19. If only!!!!
  20. for all of you who've asked about tying squirrel tail or for that matter any other hair treble hooks, Learn from a Lady Master Tyer at Mepps!!!! At the time of the Video she had been working with them for 29 years!!! Also she's using a basic vise and the bobbin I think is a really old Thompson! Enjoy!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3pGcPXjqS8
  21. zonker strips, duck flank feather, craft hair or arctic fox.
  22. Mustang Wire www.mustangwire.com
  23. Used these from the time I was a kid and wouldn't be without them!!! I still make them!!
  24. I make my own - spinners are another lure that got set aside like hair jigs except for those of us who kept fishing them all these years.
