Tackle making out of control?

Featured Replies

Just went through and inventoried some of my stuff and I have 38 hand pour lead molds that I have found.  Hopefully in the next couple of months I can sell off about half of these as I will no longer need them (especially the dam Ned head mold that is a PITA to pour in any volume). Who else has a tacklemaking addiction that they are willing to share?

I've got a bunch of plastic making materials that I've barely used. I told myself I was going to do it but I never have time. I've got the molds, microwave, plastics, glitter, softener, measuring cups, injectors, barely used any of it. Couple dozen lead molds, 2 melting pots, chunks and sheets of lead scattered everywhere, all kinds of random tools, 3 3700 boxes of hooks and inserts and 2 big boxes of 1000 packs of hooks, and who knows how many things of paint. Another table with 2 vises, skirt material all over the place, tons of tools, lots of different kinds of wire all over. I have plenty of other stuff I'd like still.

I think I am a step ahead of you guys.  I have been going through stuff and selling or trading for the last couple of years.  Another dozen or so and I think I will have it under control.?

That's my plan, I am moving things from the basement to the newly renovated garage bait shop. Things I don't need will be sold or traded so they won't take up room.

We should start a support group. I've been very tempted to make 1000 of everything and sell my molds too.

I got around 150 + molds. If anyone is looking to sell some lead pouring molds send me a PM. I'm always looking for more and ones I don't have.

I will be getting rid of a bunch of mine over the next year as I move to spincast.

I don't have a dedicated tackle making room or area so I have to put things away when done!!  I have bins of materials, box's of spinner making stuff, molds, melters and a bind of powder paint!!  I have large zip bags of feathers and furs hanging in my closet!!  Nope no problem here!!! This is just some of them!!

In all seriousness though, I am glad right now I have the ability to make jigs at the moment. considering how bare the shelves are.  Even before this nobody within 45 minutes of me really sold Any kind of bass jigs.  That poison tail mold so far has been worth its weight in gold. I have taken some nice fish using it as either a swim jig or using the 1 oz one for light punching.

caught nice fish on my Arkie mold too.  Closest thing to bass jig I have access to are itsy bugs that Walmart sells and I’m not a fan of those.  Seem really cheap

The whole reason I started making lures is I could not find what I wanted.

This and the quality of what was being offered was subpar quality and overpriced for what I was getting (looking at you Zman chatterbaits).

I made molds of several different swimbaits in several different sizes.  I then proceeded to make baits until I had a duffle bag full!   For saltwater I poured lead balls, then lead head jigs, then I just bought a Spro style jig head mold.

I have no idea if I'm saving or wasting money lol.

I think you lead molding guys, and maybe plastics molders too, need a support group which would communicate between you so you all don't have to buy all the molds.  You could borrow.

By the way, don't get involved in fly tying.  It will just get worse.

Not going to get into fly fishing. I tried it before and after 2 days I Thor Hammer threw my fly rod into the Potomac River.

Yeah the fly tying bug happened to me right after I moved to Vermont for my Job and took over all other fishing!!  It's now a part of my fishing, I'm back making and powdering jig heads, and cutting bunny and every other type of fur I can get!!  And yeah I love that I can just grab a bunch of my stuff and go and if I lose it I can make many more!!

I wish I could tie so I could make some hair jigs? Everything is good until it comes time for me to make the knot then everything unravels which starts the profanities and things being thrown.

Allen

LOL!! a good base is needed for the hair.  Just takes practice and more practice.  This is one of my panfish jigs 1/32 oz football head with new penny powder paint and a clear coat with florescent orange glitter with grizzly bear
