  1. Haha I couldn't help myself but to laugh with all the stories of lures shooting at people in their boats at the speed of light. It's just so funny to think about how many of us have sharp hooks flying at us here and there throughout the day. Come to think of it I'm surprised the government hasn't come up with some way to make fishing "idiot proof" and "safe in every way possible" like every other thing in the world. Another thought... In every package in the world there's warnings and stuff all over the package so the company can protect themselves from lawsuits... WHERE ARE THEY ON LURE PACKAGING!? Haha that's an interesting thought. But yeah anyways this season I've had a lure fly into my arm and get caught in my T-shirt but didn't go into the skin (it was a flying projectile crankbait from my friend on the other side of my boat) Be sure to call and check when your last tetanus shot was, you don't wanna play with tetanus.
  2. What were/are your night fishing strategies and lures?
  3. Perfectly able, just don't know how willing.
  4. My buddies and I took the boat out at midnight and stayed out until 3:00ish and just gave up because there was NOTHING happening. Think we were on the wrong lake though. It'll probably take a lot of convincing to get me to go back out in the middle of the night again. Usually I get a strike or two atleast even if I don't catch anything. But that night all 3 of us got completely skunked and we cruised all over the lake. I might try it again I suppose but on a better lake. Are you supposed to use obnoxious lures at night? Like Rattlers and Spinnerbaits and Poppers? Or are the fish plenty aware to the point where they'll see a Texas Rig going passed them?
  5. The thunderstorms are definitely always on my list of "watch fors" and when there's a storm I'm usually in overdrive trying to figure out my schedule so I can either get on the water right before or right after the storm. I've not noticed a big difference in fishing THIS summer when it comes to cold-front / low pressure fishing but in previous years they've produced. My buss thumb has healed up since we last talked. Thanks for the prayers. What exactly should be under a dock to consider it a fish producing dock? I've got a couple lakes in mind with different types of docks. Ann lake has about 17 foot deep drop offs underneath the Southern side docks with basically only sand and no cover. And on the other hand Lewis lake has about 3-7 foot deep docks with a bit more foliage under them. I'm guessing Lewis would be a better guess? On the subject of docks. What's y'alls favorite lure for the docks? I've been using a skirted jig trailed with a 7 inch twister - it looks effing delicious. I've also thrown Texas rigs under them and spinnerbaits. Now to the lily pads and vegetation... Is it a good idea to fish them in the middle of the day under the hot beating sun? I usually stay on the ledges and saddles and stay away from the shallows when it's hot. But I've heard a lot of good luck coming from the shallows in the 10am-2pm range? Any advice or experience on that subject? Now here's a big one. Ann lake has the main lake then the highway goes over it and on the east side the lake goes from "main lake" to "big pond." It's probably 200-300 acres and is 7-10 foot deep max. It's LOADED with lily pads and vegetation and in the spring there was a bass bed everywhere you looked. In the spring I slaughtered bass in that side of the lake but I haven't been there since the summer hit. Would it be worth my time to check it out, or would the majority of the big mamas have gone to the main lake?
  6. Come to think about it that wasn't very short and sweet... Oh well.
  7. Ok... I'm gonna make this short and sweet. In the spring I could nail bass of all sizes with basically any bait, which is how it is for a lot of people. But now that summer is here full-force I'm having a hell of a time catching bass during any time of the day. Last bass I even caught was a couple days ago on a buzz bait at 9:00pm, and he was a little guy. I've tried under docks, nothing. I've tried lots of stuff in the deeper water (15-45 feet) some deep divers, some drops shots, Carolina rigs, rattlin rapalas, and spinner baits. I've also tried different times of the day. Sun up, sun down, and the middle of the day. I dunno if its just my crappy lakes around here but I was nailing em in the spring and now... *fart noise* Here's most of the information I can give you. Line: 8lb mono and 30lb braid Lures: mentioned above Water quality: most of my lakes range from murky brown to slight murk green. None are clear. Furthest I can see down would be probably 2-3 feet. Wind: I've tried glass calm to white cap chop. Time of day: all times Presentation: I do mostly finesse, slow, slight jerks. Fastest I usually go is a medium retireve with spinnerbaits and buzz baits. Average temperature the last week: ~85 degrees Location: Central Minnesota Lakes: All DNR controlled / stocked / public lakes (small-medium sized) That's all I can think of at the moment. Gimme some help guys I'm starting to get really irritated with these dog days!
  8. Heyo I just got a new trolling motor and have a quick question about the wires on the unit. My battery is in the rear of my boat for my lights, depth finder, and transom mounted trolling motor. My new motor is a bow mount and I have 2 choices. One: I could splice the wires and extend them to reach the rear of my boat. Two: I could move my battery up to the front of the boat and my depth finder's wires should be long enough to reach it. The choice I PREFER is to splice and extend the positive and negative wires from the unit to reach the end of my boat... The biggest reason I'm asking about this is because I was wondering if extending the positive and negative would make the unit lose power. It would be about 13-14 feet from the unit to the battery. That seems like a lot of wire for the power to travel through. Do I run the risk of under-powering the unit or any other risk that could devastate my battery or the unit by using wires that long? If you'd like to see a picture of the motor housing and the wires in question, you can go to my album "My First Boat" they're all in there.

400 dollars well spent. Purchased it 6/12/2013 and brought it on the water for the first time 6/14. It's a great first boat. Nice flat bottom, sturdy in some waves, and caught some fish too!
  10. I'm in Central Minnesota and the Bass bite is sloooooooooooooowwww. I think deepwater is the trick right now, it's so effing hot.
  11. I haven't read any of the other replies so if I'm repeating someone's answer I'm sorry but I don't have a lot of time to read read read. Number one rule for accidental spool tangles, backlashes, broken handles, bails, WHATEVER. Always have an extra. It really sucks to get your line tangled and have to fix it. But it sucks even more to get on the water, and then spend your precious time on the water fixing crap you could be fixing at home. When I go out I always always always bring my extra rod all rigged up with a Texas Rig. So let's say I'm pitching around a jig under docks and it gets hooked on the dock, I SET THE HOOK! And find out that it back-lashed because I caught a dock not a fish. Then I can calmly set the rod down and pick up my T-Rig and go on with my day. Then during my lunch break I'll eat some snacks and fix the mess on my spool... Two birds with one stone. Oh and if you don't have an extra rod you could just carry an extra reel spooled up with line if you have one laying around, even if it's not the greatest reel... You can spend the time fishing rather than doing crap work. Reels are easy enough to exchange out if one gets tangled up. If you don't have an extra reel maybe you could just order up a spool for your particular reel and carry that around in the tacklebox with line on it. I have a buddy that does that and it's come in handy 2-3 times already this season. Spools generally aren't too spendy even if you have an expensive ass reel. Always carry backups! Bet you learned your lesson though.
  12. Live bait? What's live bait? I thought we were talking about bass fishing here? Wait... Now I'm confused. Live bait? Live bait... Live bait!? Texas Rig man! Carolina Rig man! What's live bait got to do with Bass fishing?
  13. Typically I just get irritated slightly. More days than not I come home with stories for my girlfriend of the fish I, or we, caught. The days I come home and didn't see any fish or even any SIGNS of fish I get slightly irritated but it never lasts longer than a few minutes. Like last night, for example, two buddies and myself took my boat out for some night fishing. We used multitudes of different lures, techniques, and spots on the lake and we did.. not.. see.. a.. thing.. for 2 1/2 hours and after that long of no activity we called it a night and went home. I do not think it was me but rather the fish were just not into it. It was extremely dark last night, overcast with no moonlight, zero wind and parties all over the lake (saturday night). When my friends are all catching the fish and I'm not it doesn't bother me a bit. I sort of fish vicariously through my friends. When they get a fish on I reel in quick and join them for the fight and excitement. Typically I'm not bothered too much by getting skunked but after several times on a lake and getting skunked every time, I tend to avoid that lake and try others, with much better results.
  14. Respect. I would have done the same thing.
  15. Well you can see in the pic. He just wired the positive wire to another red wire that has an inline fuse holder. So in a perfect world, that should work properly.
  16. What's golf? All I know is fishing.
  17. Get an inline fuse holder for the negative wire? Because the positive already has one on it. And yeah I was thinking I should probably get some eyelets for those wires. Not only is it not right to be putting bear wire down on the electrodes, it's just janky as well.
  18. Heyo. My neighbor just gave me this Eagle Suprapro ID for free. He got it from an old friend that passed away and he doesn't have a boat to use it on. Since he often fishes with me, he gave it to me. He's not certain if it works but there's no reason why it shouldn't. It looks to be in good condition. I was just kinda curious about the wiring, because it does not look like what you'd get straight from the store. In the picture you can see the Transducer, the power plug that goes into the unit, and then the red (positive) wire with an inline fuse on it, and then the tiny little black (negative) wire with no fuse on it. I'm not sure why these wires aren't exposed or why they don't have eyelets on them, I assume they people that were dismantling his belongings just cut the wires off instead of unscrewing them from the battery, maybe? My questions are: Why is the positive taped to an inline fuse wire? Do you think maybe he lost the original wire and had to replace it with this janky set-up? Would it be safe to strip both of the wires and put it straight on my battery, as is? I know nothing about fishfinders really and not sure if the wires need to have a specific end on them, or can I just strip the wire and put it on the battery, good to go?
  19. That's exactly what I mean. They're in competition so they make their stuff not comply with the other guys' stuff. Simple moneymaking strategy.
  20. That's what I figured. Companies gotta make money and making things comply with other things is against the laws of moneymaking.
  21. Hmmm. http://www.njsaltwatertackle.com/images/stories/gh%20mojo%20rig.gif That's just what I saw when I looked it up and wasn't too interested cause it looked awful lol.
  22. I've been offered a Lowrance LMS 334c but he's keeping his transducer and power cord for his new unit. I assume the power cord will be easy as pie. But the transducer is 70-100 bucks from what I've been seeing online. My boat is rigged up right now with a Humminbird transducer. I just went out and took a look at it. There is no factory number or specific markings on there to tell me what exact model of Humminbird was on there. But I can show you a picture of the plug in. Is this a universal-type plug in, or a Humminbird specific one (which is what I would guess it is)?
  23. I think Mojos are illegal in Minnesota. I feel as if I remember reading "Any rig that is known to or has the ability to catch multiple fish on the same line is not to be used."
  24. Sent you a message on BassResource.com. Not sure if you meant to do that or to actually email you, but I don't have your email so..
  25. Ahhh I get it I get it. Got me on that one.. Haha it's like unnecessary information. I gotcha.
