Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Derek, that canoe seat looks familiar .... I dropped by Blue Hills Reservoir for a few after lunch. Nabbed a dink on a Rage Tail Menace and had a school of fry follow a Ned. Good to see a fish population there. Despite the heat I launched at Ponkapog at 5:30. Picked up three LMB and a pickerel on a wacky rigged Yum Dinger. Topwater bite was quiet. Water temps were 88.x when I arrived and 86.x at dusk when I left. I don’t blame the bigguns for staying quiet.

Is the Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 a good rod for the $?
I own five Veritas of various configurations. Two are 2.0’s, and yes, they’re worth the money. They fish a little heavier than their rating when compared to my other rods: Fenwick, ***, and Kistler. Best of luck with your choice.

Why is there such a hate for pickerel?!?
I don’t target pickerel. They’re a good fight when bass are quiet. My best is just over four pounds.

Thanks for the input. Truck's always locked and alarmed when I'm not around it. I did't get up there this week. It's still on the list....

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
No forecast for tomorrow. Supposed to be breezy. I'm packing my 'generic' arsenal: MH/F baitcaster, M/MF baitcaster, and a ML/F spinning setup. Gonna see what happens. There's a public boat ramp.

Best/favorite hook remover for LMB?
My #1 hook remover is a 8” curved foreceps. #2 is a 7.5” Gander Mountain pliers with line cutters.

Abu Garcia Fantasista Regista Rods
I got one from Gander when they were going out of business for $250 just to see what a “$500” rod might fish like. With a Revo MGX on it it’s a featherweight and very sensitive. It’s really pretty too, fantastic workmanship, feel, and quality.... I like my Kistler’s in the $250 range better, however, truth be told, my Kistler MG2 is one of my favorite M/F casting rods and it’s $199. Overall, it’s worth $250, at best. I sure wouldn’t pay retail for it.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Ponkie didn’t dissapoint. Launched just after 0600 to calm, glass like, 79 degree water. Managed a roughly two pound LMB and pickerel on a perch whopper plopper and clear Zara Spook Puppy, respectively. I had a few more blow ups until around 0900, when the bite pretty well shut off. I left around 11:30 with water temps hovering around 83.x - 84.x. I also had a cool orange/brown dragon fly hitch a ride on one of my rod tips for a while. Did some errands and an oil change in my father-in-law’s car, and saw the weather got better, with little or no wind and overcast skies .... BACK TO PONKIE! Armed with my topwater rod, a wacky rig, Ned rig (Texas style), and a 7” t-rigged paddle tail worm I relaunched again around 1700. The overcast skies proved the ticket with eight LMB (4 just over 2 pounds), three pickerel, and a yellow perch. To expand on pickerel and heat, my morning pick died on me while trying to extricate the trebel hook from him and two of the three evening pickerel were pretty slow to swim away after I freed them. Afternoon water temps were 83.x. I’d have to say they don’t do well in the heat.

I’ve had much more success with topwater the last week or two than with soft plastics. My 130 Whopper-Plopper & Rapala Skitter-walk especially.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Welcome to the forum Ralph. If you travel to the Cape, try Hedges pond in Plymouth. It’s right off route 3. Good smallie & yellow perch pond. It’s small. You can fish all of it with waders. It’s shaped like a 20’ deep cereal bowl.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Stopped by Blue Hills Reservoir to see if there were any bass left. There was one lonely fry close to shore and a little guy I could have used as a swim bait that liked my green Yum Dinger. Other than those two, the only signs of life were dragon flies and a handfull of turkey vultures all doing what they do. Launched at Ponkapog around 6:00 and stayed until 8:30. Caught three LMB, all just over two pounds. A 130 Whopper-Plopper, wacky rig Yum Dinger, and a t-rigged Keitch swim bait did the trick. Water temps were 83.x at 6:00 and 81.x when I left.
