Sounds about right. I'm born and raised in Quincy. It's a great city but like everything else it's just overgrown itself. I'd love to find a house on a dirt road, off a dirt road, on or near a SMB pond.... Yeah, the Sox are something to watch this year, for sure. I'm NOT making any predictions, though.... '75, '86, ..... it ain't over until the trophy's in the locker room.

My first kayak was a ‘14 128T. I liked it very much. Stable, good seat, more than enough room for gear. Best $700 kayak out there when I bought it. Sold it to a guy with two young kids to help pay for a Lure 11.5 with Overdrive.

I have anchor trolleys on the port and starboard sides on both my Lures and use a 5 pound claw anchor. I choose which side to anchor from depending on wind direction and what shoreline I'm fishing.

Yeah, I'm off until Saturday but am staying hunkered down the next couple days, save a couple side jobs I have. Friday looks like a good day to go SMB hunting in Plymouth.

Water temps are high right now Ralph. Bass will generally look for deeper water, shade, and weeds where it’s cooler. I fished the Cape a couple weeks ago and experienced similar success. Try fishing early mornings. Search around BR for tips on fishing in hot weather. As for Massachusetts fishing regs, check the state’s website. Things will pick up as water temps drop in September & October. Best of luck.

I hit Ponkie with my friend's son one last time before Evan heads off to college. I managed four Larries and one ticked off pickerel. Unfortunately Evan didn't catch anything. Water temps were 78.x. ADD: I forgot to mention that a 4” wacky rigged watermelon/pearl Yum Dinger was the bait of choice. I went through half a bag of them.

I keep a couple travel rods under the back seat. I can put a couple two piece setups under there too but rarely do. I use rod socks & reel covers and lay them in the bed next to my kayak when day tripping. If travelling long distances I have a Plano hard sided rod case.

Yes, you’ll do fine tossing a 3/8 oz. bladed jig on a medium Veritas. I own Vendettas to Fantasista Registas, and they all fish a little ‘heavier’ than other brands I own.

Don’t we all? I had the opportunity to buy a matching numbers ‘69 Hurst Olds for $12,000 in 1991-ish. I paid $2,500 each for the Monte & Skylark pictured above..... “woulda-shoulda-coulda” I can’t complain. I had some nice cars and will have another one in a few years.

Braintree and Canton, MA, treated their local ponds that were very good bass ponds. Sunset Lake in Braintree still hasn’t recovered after two seasons and Canton reservoir is 3/4 barron. Fishing is good in Canton way back where there are still weeds/pads. I guess it’s called progress. I wonder what fish in said ponds call it !?!?!?

Yep. I’m a rag top A-Body fan. Sold a beautiful ‘72 Monte Carlo to pay for the ‘72 Skylark convertible, pictured below, in the 80’s. One friend has a ‘69 Torino GT, another just bought a ‘71 442 convertible clone w/ built 455, and a 3rd is finishing a modern Chevy V-8 w/6-speed stick in his ‘72 Nova.... I go to Mecum’s Kissimmee auction every year. I lost out on a couple rag tops, but I’m not giving up. It all started growing up riding around in Mom’s ‘70 Vista Cruiser... ADD: I forgot to say my current go-fast is my ‘07 BMW K1200S ....

My favorite spinning setup is an Abu Garcia Villain ML/F with a Pflueger Supreme XT hung under it. It has awesome sensitivity and like other Abu rods fishing a little heavier than say, my Fenwick Elite Bass ML. Unfortunately it's buried in the weeds at the bottom of Ponkapog Pond. I'll save up and grab another one this fall. Until then my Kistler MG-2 will have to do...

Congrats on a good exit to your day. That bass looks like it could use a Big Mac, or two.... I’ve also caught a few skinnies this month. That tells me it’s gonna be a BUSY fall.

Fishing Rhino and I started at Cliff’s Pond just before 0600 yesterday morning. Tom hooked onto a good SMB and landed a beautiful rainbow trout straight away then the bite shut off as if the tax collector was coming. We moved over to Little Cliff to see if there was any action there. Nope. From Little Cliff we went to Flax Pond, which was crowded with Cape Cod vacationers. We had some success here. I landed a couple dink SMB and Tom caught 4, methinks. Wanting some quieter waters we packed up and tried Hinckley’s later in the afternoon. Tom caught a nice SMB, 2+ pounds, and I snagged a yellow perch on a squarebill. Water temps at all the ponds were 80+ degrees, with bright sunlight, a barometric pressure north of 30, and little breeze. Great weather for swimmers and sun bathers, but not for catching fish. I’ll chaulk up the slow fishing to the weather. Over three days I fished too many ponds, threw too many baits, with the same results. The weather, however, couldn’t have been better to be on my Kayak or in Tom’s canoe. I’m still up for a couple days fishing Nickerson state park in September when the tourists are gone and water temps cool down a bit. Hopefully a few of you can make it.

It’s been a tough bite the last few days. I fished Mashpee/Wakeby, Peter’s, Great Herring, and Hinckley’s yesterday and today. Managed a couple decent SMB at M/W, but the other three ponds produced little or NOTHING. My Lowrance marked a lot of fish in 15-20’ of water at Hinkley’s and showed them all making a bee-line upwards at 45 degrees. I’ve never seen that before. Regardless, I tossed the kitchen sink at Hickley’s and got a big NADDA. Water temps are 83.x and there’s not been much of a breeze. I think the fish are on vacation.... Fishing Rhino and I are starting at Cliff Pond tomorrow morning and winging it. I’m down the Cape until Friday afternoon.

Air temp in the 70's, overcast, and just a little wind ..... just the right forecast to go fishing. I launched at Ponkapog around 1100 and stayed until 1600. Got 3 LMB between 1 1/2 & 2 pounds, a couple dink LMB, a dink pick, and a pick upwards of 3 pounds. Had one pick unhook itself and a 4th good LMB get away with a case of knot failure. Soft baits were the ticket today, worked S L O W L Y and left still. Water temps were 77.x - 78.x. I'm fishing with Fishing Rhino tomorrow and then hitting Brewster/Harwich Wednesday through Friday.... and tomorrow's forecast on Cape Cod calls for TOPWATER!

We've got Tackle Supply Depot in CT. Fishing Rhino uses it from time to time. I've ordered from them a couple times. They've got good selection, and for us in MA, shipping is quick. I've never been to their store, but the pictures on their website look pretty good.

Perch colored Rapala Skitter-walk, followed by a gold prism Yozuri 3DB pencil bait, and lastly, a perch 110 Whopper Plopper round out my best performing topwater baits.

Congrats on a good trip out west J! On the SMB idea, I think it’s the heat. I fished Great South for a few hours today and came up with a dink SMB on a drop-shotted Ned and a really skinny pickerel on a wacky rigged Senko. Surface temps were 83.x - 84.x and it was near calm most of the time I was there. I threw a couple different pencils and a 110 Whopper Plopper and couldn’t buy a bite. This place has my number this year. I’ve caught almost nothing there no matter what I threw or where I threw it. For the time it takes me to pack up, drive down, paddle across Little South and hump over the hill - I think I’ll wait until the FALL and give it another go. I drove home and helped my daughter’s BF do an oil change on his truck then hit Ponkie. Wasn’t there more than an hour and got called into work. I picked up two LMB, each around 2 pounds on soft plastics and a fiesty little bluegill that attacked a Yozuri pencil twice its size. Water temps were a cool 86.x for the short time I was on the water. ADD: There were clouds of water bugs on Great South and NO action from any fish at all.
